It's higher in places where the healthcare system has gotten overwhelmed, lower when it hasn't. Hence the need to flatten the curve.

Those death rates are very inflated because there are many infected people who show only mild or no symptoms and aren't counted in either the infected or the deceased, especially younger people. This is not to say it isn't a very dangerous virus, but those statistics are far from accurate.

Then there are a few strange cases, like that of Germany, with an extremely suspiciously low death toll. *scratches chin*

Social media has made this pandemic worse IMO. I remember the H1N! pandemic, which was a super flu with no vaccine, and the world never stopped for it. This Covid19 has shut down nations, and, while I understand the anomaly of Italy skews it and that should be investigated, COVID-19 is considered a low risk disease for most people that catch it.

Its not healthy for the world to shutter up like this for a prolonged period of time.

Stick with how this is effecting you personally. Your life. Or don't post. I dont want to have to moderate a political discussion, wade through arguments about science, or dissect conspiracy theories.

How is this affecting you?

It is affecting me by keeping me from spending extended time with my mom, who is in her last weeks/months of terminal cancer. It is keeping my daughter out of school for the foreseeable future, and cancelled sporting seasons, activities, etc. Food and baby formula are flying off the shelves of the grocers, causing some to go without. Neighbors struggling to find hygiene items, including toilet paper, diapers, etc. I am working from home for at least a month (likely longer).

Our known cases in our area have been doubling every 3 days or so, but there is only testing available for those that are very ill, so we don't know how many are transmitting it. People are anxious, sequestered, and (so far) making due.

I've seen a lot of desperation, but so far it hasn't turned into a security issue. Honestly I feel like that is only a matter of time in some areas, as the desperation is becoming more palpable, and resources to assuage that desperation less readily provided.

Sticking with how this impacts me, I am not panicking and don't think anybody else should either. I am taking it seriously, as I believe the issue isn't whether most of us will survive. I have no doubt that most of us will survive. I have no doubt that Tsidkenu's statistics are accurate ... as of now. My fear is that by ignoring it, we will increase infections to the point where our healthcare systems will be overwhelmed, as Italy's appears to be, and that more people will die than need to. I am worried that people are going to die needlessly because some people think that because they have not experienced serious symptoms, everyone else in their lives will be lucky enough to share their experience.

I am worried for my parents who are over 60. I am worried for my friends with immune system deficiencies.

I don't think anyone should panic. But I do think everyone should be concerned and aware.

Well, for one thing, I'm posting a LOT more memes on my FB than usual. Ummmm... I think we have enough toilet paper in the house to last a while. I probably only use 20 squares in a week, so there's that(TMI?). I have a case of beer in the fridge, which isn't going to last nearly as long as our supply of TP. Other than that, I guess I'm pretty much just sitting back and watching it all hit the fan, just like I fully expected I would have to do at some point in my lifetime. :|

The whole epidemic is affecting harshly.

My brother's GF gave birth 2 weeks ago, via Csection of a premature baby. I've been going back and forth to my brother's place babysitting my 2 years old nephew. There was a crapload of stress sent my way, and I already stress out myself.

Since the suicide of my good friend in last september, I've been battling with Anxiety and deep depression.

Now, I'm locked inside my home with my daughter of 6 years of age. Isolation was already an issue and now I'm forced inside and will be longer because more idiots will go around spreading the virus because they feel they are better than anyone else.

Thank you for jumping in and steering the conversation back on topic. I held off all week from starting this thread, but eventually thought it a positive idea to share collective experiences from our global player base. I realize this post doesn't make it easy for you forum moderators. My goal was to create a message that shows we're all in this together and to hopefully boost morale, even strengthen our community's bond.

I am so, so sorry to hear about your mother. That must be incredibly difficult to deal with. I hope you can be with her as much as possible. And I hope this virus passes sooner than is being predicted. Hang in there.

How has it affected me?

Work-wise as I run my own company and I
have for 10 years, things have slowed down tremendously which has freed up my time to finally get to painting, and even got more time so made a website just for myself to look up old painted stuff to compare to new. I made the website some time ago but finally had time to update it.

https://jon61153.wixsite.com/someminiatures

So basically my wife works on my usual work pc all day as I am sat infront of the television with my painting stuff out, watching youtube, netflix, amazon or anything I can find. Typically I watch Critical role as I can simply listen to them speak whilst painting.

After it is all done I may have to consider finding a job or starting all over with my company as many of my businesses that I work with have to close due to what has occurred.

My heart goes out to small business owners, because they are the ones getting screwed over by this and they will be the real victims in the end. Do what you can to support your local businesses.

I'm a Paramedic in the USA, at first the hysteria drove call volume through the roof and we had a bunch of busy days, but after the whole mandate to shelter in place happened call volume went down, people actually started calling their MD for minor things rather then 911 which was nice. We super short on n95 masks and can only use them on suspected or confirmed cases of people who do still call 911.

Still what worries me is once the lockdown is over, the time we saved by going into the lockdown, will not be for much of anything because all the supplies are still super low for us and on back order til the end of april as hospitals are being prioritized over the street workers.

I may not be able to go into work on Wednesday due to my continuing cough that started a month ago. But we'll see what my service says, I may just need to get tested to confirm one way or the other.

I'm probably dead if I catch this thing, or at least looking at ICU treatment. OH WAIT! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And I'm also out of a job until further notice, supplementing with occasional freelance work via teleconference.

Thankfully, my husband works works in a very critical public sector field, so we're not completely without a reliable source of income; if he loses his job, that means our area has... catastrophic issues.

H1n1 had a fatality rate of .02%

Coronavirus has a fatality rate of 2%

Its 100x as deadly
