Does it have to be level 1? I have a human commoner I've already RP'd a bit and he's level three from passive EXP.

I would like to add that I ran one of these events by myself 2 days ago and it was such a success! We didn't have any aid from DM or anything, just a few people roleplaying!

So I guess with a DM helping things can just get even more interesting!

I'm very pleased to see that this initiative appears well received and founded. It heartens me to hear that there is interest in providing the backdrop of normality from which adventuring necessarily departs.
While unfortunately I neither was nor am possessing in the free time or attention to commit to the current cycle, perhaps I might find it possible to participate in a future iteration. In the mean time, I look forwards to hearing of the various tales of the common folk the next time my transient baker comes through.

After a spirited sales pitch, one Vynn Kolloss managed to sell Iados Kaaris 1000 shares of stock in the Sword Coast Asset Management firm for 200 gold. The recipient was regaled with a spirited explanation in how the SCAM foundation used its capital to fund growth in various enterprises in exchange for a stake in their businesses. The man was then assured he would receive a return on investment proportional to his share in the company along with written updates on the status of those investments, provided on a tri-quarterly, post-apocryphal basis with semiannual annuities added for pre-taxation embellishments. All in all, it was a very sound investment with an educated and savvy businessman. Iados was given a "stock certificate" drawn up very carefully by a tenuously literate individual who, for their use of complicated language, was most certainly not in possession of a dictionary. Most magnanimous, Iados instructed the reputable businessman to anonymously forward his returns directly to the Temple of Ilmater in Baldur's Gate. The new business partner was encouraged to refer his wealthy and discerning friends in exchange for a 10% referral bonus in SCAM company stock.

The following afternoon, the same stall appeared in the same corner of the docks, with a new sign beside it, reading "Whimsical Wonders Etc Store". Arrayed across the stall's table are a variety of odd trinkets, unusual potions, unidentifiable meats, and a benign looking smithing hammer. Unfortunately, Vynn's customers are less than impressed by his promises of rare steaks previously available only to Calimshan royalty, potions of Illithid origin for love and genius, or rare forging hammers of ancient elven power. Skepticism (and perhaps good judgment) steered his customers away without fail, and the man packed away his wares before wandering off towards one of the docks' many seedy taverns.
