Re: Spying when?
I think this would be hard to do since players can change the appearance of anything to anything else. IDK if we have a leather bikini, but you can make it look like plate armor, which is pretty ridiculous. In any case any solution would probably require some scripting, which means the people who would make this change would be prevented from doing something else with that time.

Mask wearing in Baldur's Gate is not actually illegal. You just have to be willing to remove it if a guard asks you to (thus, only really a factor when a DM is around).Snarfy wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 3:29 pm Speaking as a player who has more than a few sneaky types, I would love to see NPC guards utilizing search and detection skills to detect law breakers within their personal radius. Just within the last two days several of my characters spotted mask-wearers lurking around the East Gate, and right in front of the Fist patrols(one of which even decided to hop into stealth, put on a mask, disguise their name, and draw their weapons right in front of the magic shop in broad daylight).
... now, of course, the drawing weapons bit, that would be a problem.- Withheld Identity, often in the case of masked or full-helmeted individuals, must present their full appearance to any and all City Watch or Flaming Fist officers when requested. Failure to do so shall result in imprisonment or banishment from the Gate.

I would say just give everyone the benefit of the doubt , maybe they're new, etc.
Players can learn from mistakes but if the first thibf you do is jump to accuse people that will just maybe drive them away from the server.

I wouldn't expect folks to set aside roleplay and immersion to gain a small skill bonus, personally.yyj wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 7:55 pm

I wouldn't "jump to accuse" anyone, but I would react in character and expect the NPCs to do the same, like you said, people can learn from mistakes.

So, there is functionality for this, but it does not really work well and it will end up bugging out a lot. Faction Rep in NWN games really doesn't work well in the PW environment.Steve wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 5:06 am
What the NWN2 engine misses is a NPC setting that is not Hostile but...Aggressive. Meaning, the NPC won’t attack outright but will utilize Search, Spot and Listen skills at short range or visual/hearing range, and when triggered against PC actions, will either then go Hostile or pop up a Dialogue for further PC action/choice (like use Diplomacy check to “talk your way out of it” or Run, or just Fight it out.)
You could also put NPCs "on patrol" but the problem with that is it will take resources as the script will constantly be running and that could make the server unstable.
