So, been talking with Xorena about this on discord, copying here.

Apparently there was already script in place to translate between thayan and mulhorandi. There was also script in place to translate common and thorass. From what I understand from personal experience, the common-thorass one worked, but it sounds like the thayan-mulhorandi one didn't?

Well, since I've been working on dmfi_inc_langexe for the region history feats, I'm going to implement the changes suggested by khaevil. So please check if these work after the patch. In addition, a few other translations will be added alongside the two mentioned there. Damaran and Vaasan will translate between each other, and the four elemental languages will translate between each other.

Hopefully the updated script will work better.

Related, I'm going to be giving a few languages more lore-accurate names. Vaasan will be named Vaasan Creole, 'Assassin' will be named Shadow Cant, and be available for both Assassins and Guild Thieves, Goblin will be named Ghukliak, Animal will be renamed Animal Empathy, Chardic will be named Easting (Damaran and Vaasan are already the two Chardic dialects so Easting makes more sense as a separate language) and Arcane will be named Ruathlek (the magical script of illusionists). Druidic and Drow will have very slight alterations (Druidic will use its canon name of Drueidan, and Drow will use its canon name of Drowic), as will the racial languages (Orc to Orcish, Dwarf to Dwarvish).

If there's any concerns with that, let me know.

Are you going to have descriptions for what the languages are? I do not think a new player would think to look for Goblin's new name, nor Arcane's.

Otherwise, thank you for your work.

There are already plenty of languages that players don't know anything about (including their own regional languages, which the new regional feats will hopefully fix). Ghukliak could be left as Goblin... but then, why do we have Giant as Jotun, and Kobold as Yipyak? Etc. I did restrain myself at least from changing the player race languages (Elven to Espruar, Dwarven to Dethik, etc), since a lot more people take those.

As for Arcane, it's a pet peeve because it means nothing. There's no such thing as an 'Arcane' language. Magical notation is typically done in Draconic. Ruathlek was the closest thing I could change it to that wasn't outright removing it from players' languages, which is what I would have preferred.

While I would be impressed if it were, somehow I doubt the intention was to provide access to the language of Mercanes given their telepathic nature, but they would be a valid potential source for such a naming.
