18 years old- Legally able to sign up to go die (or come back traumatized) in a foreign land while seeing things no human being should ever want to see. Not allowed to hanky panky.
If someone was made uncomfortable by someone else's RP that's a valid thing, and should be dealt with on a personal level. Making a ruling that nobody is considered an adult until they are nearly 30 is just ridiculous. Being a legal adult should not be faulted. Creepy RP should. Do your job, admins, and handle this the way it's supposed to be handled, instead of bullying the entire player base into having to have a back story that involves "Well I was pretty well set farming beans, until the orcs came. I'd be better with this, except my arthritis flares up".

This does seem to me to be painting with a broad brush rather than the sort of targeted thing it should be.
It's unnecessarily restrictive, and won't necessarily actually fix or effectively prevent any problems it sets out to address.

I agree with this rule change completely:
Beyond that, though, this server, the forums, and any interactions within them should be the equivalent of PG-13/Teen at most. No violations of this rule, not even within the privacy of an inn room or guild hall. This includes, but is not limited to, excessive vulgarity, gratuitous violence/torture, graphic/extended sexual situations, and explicitly or implicitly sexualizing any characters under the age of 18 or racial equivalent in age.
I don't think the age-related change is at all necessary especially since functionally it means that whatever was going on can still go on with the same characters, it just cant go on with newly made ones. Additionally, you already needed to be an adult PC (18) to begin with, and I fully agree with and support that idea.
Punish people who do things that go against the spirit of existing rules and why they are in place, or when they deliberately try to skirt the line. Don't make rules needlessly convoluted.

From hearing about the issue, and various opinions posted here, I'll give my 2 cents
yes this is a PG 13 server, however, it is generally accepted that humans and their counterparts need to be at least 18 or older. If we allow 18 and someone decided to play a 14 or younger player, the player should have been punished. Moving the age to 20 to not allow any Teenager characters, while still allowing players to still have the "I decided to leave the farm/family buisness." and be fresh with the world.
What the character in question was doing was clearly breaking several rules with the underage and generally making people feel uncomfortable. I do feel this was an overreaction, and would like the rule to be returned to 18 or lowered to 20 if you don't want any teenage characters, just to rule it out of ever happening again.

I don't like this change and rather not have known there were underaged sex stuff going on. Why did this have to be a public scene?

When I interpret a new ruling the first thing I want to avoid is going into outrage mode.
Ask questions and take the emotion out of it.
What caused this ruling to occur?
Is this a flippant ruling, pulled out the sleeve of an arbitrary Dungeon Master or Administrator?
Or could this be a defensive maneuver, protecting future players rather than attacking current players, which seems to be a growing assumption?
Do I have all of the data? Could I possibly know everything that brought the ruling to its' place outside of being intimately involved with its' creation?
What does it do exactly? If your answer is (and I have seen this very response) nothing. . .then you're just a cog in an outrage machine.
You can screenshot rulebooks all you like but obviously this is a rendering of DnD 3.5, a digital homebrew if you will. So snip all you like.
Truth is, people have and always will look to follow the rules according to their own interpretation. Whether that be innocent or not. There are some who will push the very boundaries and challenge the line. Which is fine, this is how progress is made.
So before assuming it is merely for one instance, consider that sentiment outside the realm of emotion and the general need to just be right.
Is it possible to blur the lines of the former rule in order to form an ambiguous agenda?
Does it harm current characters (who are by the very definition of the rule grandfathered in) more than those potentially preyed upon or sickly invested in pedophilic play?
Do I have all the knowledge of what goes on behind the scenes?
If the answer to the last question is no, then is it worth the emotional currency to make assumptions about what the administration/DMs are trying to do?
You're not being oppressed. You're being protected. As are possible future players on this server.

*sigh* Some people just cant play the game as it was meant too.
I avoid any rp with any PC rpin their age of 18. I even tend to ignore rp of pregnancy's cause well this is BG wtf is pregnancy rp even doin here. There's other servers for that stuff.
BG in my opinion is a server for rp adventure, character creations good old d&d digital gameplay etc.
K I shut up and leave this thread before I get beastmode on it and get banned myself for being too vulgar.

If someone was playing an underage character, address that. They already broke the PC age rule and changing the minimum age won't stop someone from doing such in the future if they really want to.

I just realized what this reminded me of.
We've had a PC in the past who was AMAB, and was played as a feminine non-binary character that didn't use polymorph/stronger to transition, only clothing and mannerisms, using a female PC model.
For some absurd reason, DMs decided that such is against the rules.
This feels like the same bloody thing.

This rule change will not change the fact that people are sick and twisted. Uping the minimum age for a character will not stop people from attempting this kind of twisted RP. It only hurts the rest of the player base and will not solve the root issue of rulebreaking.

Changing a rule like this isn't going to stop the kind of people who were breaking the original rule in the first place. Perhaps the original rule needed updating in the wording, but definitely not the age listed in the rule. 18 is adult.
We are on a PG-13 server. This new rule will expect teens to get on and play toons with life experience that they don't even have to draw on themselves. Seems a bit ludicrous to me. Eighteen was already a decent compromise to lore where fifteen year old humans are considered adult.
A better way to handle this is to enforce the original rule, rather than punish a whole server for something the majority of us aren't doing. From what I understand, it's not the age that's the issue, but some RP that isn't allowed on the server anyway.

Honestly, this is an area in which I feel DMs should not be making Ruling on beyond playing the Appropriate age for the Setting. GRANTED that we are a Teen Server The Minimum age should be 18 for Humans and the equivalent age for the appropriate Race. Anything Beyond this is a violation of the rules set out from the beginning and should be treated as such. EX: Playing an age younger than an Adult (18) or Playing something Inappropriate.
The issue I am seeing from my understanding is Beyond the "Age" of the person more as to what that person was doing. Yes, what that person did was wrong and SHOULD be punished for what they did. I don't understand why an Age change is needed where the inappropriate RP is the main issue. It has always been said to leave questionable RP to a "Fade to Black" sort of RP and always ask for consent. Yes, the Age was a Violation but that can and should be Retconned to an appropriate Age Per the existing Rule. If violation of the Rule continues THEN the DMs should step and escalate their punishments to fit.
