Darkfire Disciple? A cool RP class? Eh, people here never knew how to make use of it properly. Just make a cleric with either Orc, Strength, or War domain for Divine Power at level 3 spell slot. Helm is a good deity, as it grants free Extend Spell from Planning Domain. Then just go: Cleric 8/Rogue 4/Hierophant 8/Darkfire Disciple 10 for BAB of 22 and Caster level of at least 30 with Practiced Spellcaster feat and Spell Power I & II from Hierophant. You need to go Rogue 3/Cleric 7/Darkfire Disciple 7/Hierophant 3 pre-epic in order to qualify or be under the 3 by 20 rule if it still exists. 19 Wisdom is not a great cost, as you can just start out with a +2 racial modifier and just spent one ability increase to get it to 19 at either levels 4, 8, 12, or 16. The rest of your ability increases can go straight to Strength for the usual Melee Helmite, and you deal your Sneak Attack damage via flanking. You could also use ranged weapons, with summons, and deal surprisingly high damage with things like high Wisdom and Zen Archery via ranged flanking. You might even pull of a Dexterity based build, but the Cleric spell list leans far more readily towards either Strength or Wisdom based builds.
Doesn't Silverstar just get 1d8? Electrical damage and some extra on critical hits? I do not think the enchantment bonus stacks.
Stormlord gets +1d8 Electic, +1d8 Sonic, and then +3d6 Electric from the level 10 ability. That is something like +19.6 average damage in melee: 5 to 34 damage per hit, and how common are the Lightning and Sonic resistances and immunities on this server again? Not to mention that with the addition of Short Spears, you no longer even need to get Monkey Grip feat to Sword-And-Board up.
What Silverstar has going for it is the much better deity, and what I mean by that is a more sociable deity in the sense that faith based and appropriate role-play does not result in picking fights with everyone else whether that was intentionally or not.
And Silverstar is only really better than 10 more cleric levels if you are not going to make use of the Protection Domain ability for ever high sanctuary DC, 40 + Charisma modifier at Cleric 30, and you are going for another PRC such as the Hospitaler in order to get its High BAB progression and the acquisition of a few Epic feats with the Bonus Feats the latter PRC offers. Now, I suppose Cleric 10/Silverstar 10/Hospitaler 10 might have a caster level advantage over a Cleric 10/Stormlord 10/Hospitaler 10... 30 against 28, but as discussed earlier it is possible to get some levels Hierophant at a very minor ability score cost... And going Cleric 6/Hierophant 4/Deity PRC 10/Hospitaler ends at exact same BAB, and the caster levels of 32 and 30 respectively. I suppose the Selunite could forgo the Spell Power feats in favour of something else, Faith Healing and Advanced Divine Spell Power as but one example... But both builds technically speaking lean towards beating other things with big sticks, by sheer virtue of the Clerical spell list.
Thus all in all, I would lean towards stating that the Silverstar is clearly the inferior PRC compared to the Stormlord PRC, and how the sole genuine detriment of the Stormlord PRC is simply its lore-based ties to its deity requirement: Talos -- a detriment that only exists if the player manifests it by virtue of lore-accurate role-play of a Talassan. And were you to consider how many people on the server do play here for reasons of heroic escapism, it really requires a very high quality role-player to have their own character start groveling by the feet of a Talassan cleric instead of merely toggling hostile and attacking. Not to mention you require those high quality and experienced role-players to even consider that such an encounter need not be resolved with actual combat. And this is actually something where the server's PvP rules get in the way of therole-play. For example, the Stormlord could cast Call Lightning as a source of Divine Intimidation, but then you have things rolling in the combat log... The other party could complain that he or she wasn't toggled hostile, or wasn't afforded RP-out, or that it was all unfair if there was noticeable difference in level or build power, etc... And if one thinks about it, one cannot even have the natural reaction of throwing those Acid and Fire Bombs at people who talk from stealth. You know, your character got spooked. So all in all, all of it is just a massive can of worms that I feel most people would much rather just avoid entirely. The reason why I bring this up is because over the years, I have never disregarded the Stormlord PRC because of its lack of power, but because of the OOC hassle it produces. And sure, removing the reduction in caster level progression might make the PRC more appealing, hence potentially drawing in more players to play Talassans, but what would be the over all net good this change would bring to this server? It would be like the addition of the Tiefling tails, a whole campfire of those tailed freaks, when in the years long past people were actually seeing the effort to hide their horns, and upon a such a gathering of the tailed-folk, a Talassan cannot even chuck an Acid or Fire Bomb to exemplify the misfortunes such gatherings of Tieflings produce. I mean, even in BG III, a group of Tieflings have managed to pick a fight with Druidic Circle and a Horde of Goblins. But I wonder off into the banter land here... Banter misread, misunderstood, etc...
