Then can you at least make the reserve feats more worthwhile? As they are currently, there's always a better option especially when they're easily outperformed by an attuned Staff of Magic Missile. They're pretty much only selected for a niche builds. Granted, you did say that staves were not intended but they're here now and not likely to be going anywhere from the sounds of it.

We already did. Reserve feats boost caster levels, several unusable reserve feats now have a practical use, DCs were increased, and the damage dealing ones can scale up to 15d6 with Epic Reserve, which makes them about equal to a level 30 warlock's eldritch blast without eldritch master/epic eldritch blast feats. Those damage dealing ones also typically have a small AOE, so can hit multiple targets at once. That is, in fact, almost twice as much damage as a full magic missile on a single target (and potentially more if it hits multiple).

No further updates to reserves are planned. If any change is made, it would be in changes to the staff or the magic missile spell itself. Magic missile itself was overtuned when BG's damage spells' damage values were adjusted, so it's rather skewed here. We have been discussing a new rework on spell damage values that would equalize things across the board by refactoring things under a consistent formula (which would have the effect of reducing some of the current damage on lower level spells while raising it on higher level ones).

I'd kill for a staff that did plinking ice spells that work with frostmage abilities.
