I'm of the opinion that an enchanting system like the one Karond posted will be much more valuable than epic merchants. It will allow players to spend their gold on something and thus give large amounts of gold value again (this was the point, yeah?).

What is worrying (annoying) to me is the mentality out there that people think they automatically deserve this type of epic gear just because others have it. What happened to putting a bit of work towards getting something? On this server, that means trading. Build up some gold reserves and then trade. Karond even spelled out an iron-clad way to do it! I can guarantee that everyone with any decent amount of gold has done the same.

Agree about the crafting, but trading stool requires you to obtain something of value, which most don't have nort is there a realistic way to obtain tradeable goods. You can work hard and get gold to buy +4 dodge boots, but unless a "have" is feeling generous a have not isn't going to get the "trade only" goods

I would disagree. I have found any number of epic trade items in the dungeons around the FAI (Epic Handaxe - haunted house, Holy Avenger - gnoll cave, Epic Rogue Armor - seaside troll cave). Not to mention the slew of +4 weapons and armor that my merchants sell.

I can not stress enough that your luck is uncanny and not the norm. In fact it is the exception. Finding such great items is incalculable and astronomical for everyone. You are clearly favored by the gods. :)

Heh, Garagos loves me! I think it just boils down to the fact that I can be on the server looting much more than the average person. I open a LOT of chests nearly every reset so the law of averages says that I will find something good occasionally. But my point still stands, you do not have to be an old timer or a several year veteran to get good trade goods. You just have to invest the time into looking for them. I agree that someone who only gets on the server for two or three hours per week will probably not find anything.

It's a combination of luck, having an epic character (this makes a big difference), and spending a lot of time looting.

It also helps if you love looting. Some of us just have the bug. If looting is what you love, then you naturally find more shinies.

No seriously you have great luck. I uber loot all I can and I find greater goods but nothing of epic value. I have a mule full of mediocre stuff for making decent builds but nothing that is "ENDGAME" gear. Can I get a prayer to your god and see if he favors more than Hoar? I swear there is a special script just for Kory that gives him copper and shurikens since I farm with him quite a bit...............

I've done a fair bit of looting with my level 30, only two decent items I ever found was +3 dodge, +3 dex and greater vile bite axe. In over a year, sometimes hitting 50+ chests.

An epic character who can carry a lot of loot.

Stealthers and other low strength characters take much longer to do the same loot runs as a high strength PC due to having to run to city for muling/selling more often.

This is true. My main has 25 strength. I can loot the troll cave, gnoll cave, minotaurs, hags and haunted house before I need to head back to FAI to sell. Most of the time I run out of inventory space before I become encumbered unless I'm finding a ton of the infamous +1 Banded Mails.

You guys know about the "trade a paper clip for a house" story right? The biggest mistake I see with trades is that people ask too much for crap or common gear. Trade at a level slightly above the value of your item, then do it again and again. Pretty easy.

I do agree that I have had a bit of luck recently. I have 2 items that only a couple of people know about IC that I found in the last event I was in (defense of Gullykin). They dropped from one of the generals minions. A suit of armor and a shield. The armor is epic (+4 banded mail) but what should make it valuable, to a collector at least, is that I don't think it will spawn in chests. It's name and the description seems to indicate that it is a semi-unique armor. Same for the shield although it is only a +3 tower shield. Trading to collectors is the way to go if you want other epic items and/or gold. I would rather trade with a collector any day over a powerbuilder.

NPCs should be set to NOT drop their Equiped Gear, but instead, a random Loot from the RIG. Any DM or Dev making NPCs should know this.

It has happened a few times in the past, and a Player wound up with a +6 EB sword, or something. I would advise you to check in with the DM running that event to see if your found item is actually legal, else, you might just get it jacked and without compensation.

If you want stool, you don't have to trade for it. Just pick some up at the nashkel foothills. It's everywhere!
