One who worships all equally goes to the Wall.

That does not seem correct, Xan. If they worship a pantheon in common they are far from faithless. It seems more likely that their soul would be drawn to one particular deity among those that they revered at the time of judgement.
Incidentally, the idea that all souls ascend to join with the deity they worshiped is derivative of monotheistic beliefs and seems implausible and a poor fit for a wildly polytheistic world like the Forgotten Realms.

It's actually correct.
You NEED a Patron Deity. If you don't have one... you go to the Wall, regardless of how many gods you revere. You can believe in a Pantheon as a whole, but one of the gods must be your patron deity, or you're screwed in the afterlife.

It's not true.
When you go to the wall you can also be brought to the plane of a deity you didn't have as a patron deity, if you lived your life the way the deity's dogma said you should.
Like.. A strong warrior who fought many wars and who prayed to all gods equally depending on the needs, could be brought by an emissary of Tempus to his plane.

Sorry, but lore says otherwise.

What I said is almost quoted entirely from the book. It says you're faced with a choice, when you get in the fugue plane.
Here.
Even if the character has never actively shown interest in any particular god, the way the character has been played usually will suggest a god. For example, a character of good alignment who has devoted himself to magic would naturally gravitate toward Mystra, whereas an adventurer of almost any class or alignment might naturally gravitate to Shaundakul if he had a zest for travel or exploration.

Everything about the Wall of the Faithless I could find says that you need a patron god or go to the wall. Including the Player's Guide to Faerun.
In what book you found your stuff?

Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. I couldn't find much 2nd edition stuff, though. Our server's timeline is set in 2nd (or slightly before 2nd). But we still use most mechanics from third.
Also, a character without a patron deity can be raised if it's whitin 1d10 days. Before the soul is trapped into the wall.

Page 290.
Basically it says you can pick a deity after your death, and even if you have no idea about what deity, your lifestyle can gravitate around one's dogma.
So you can be without a patron all your life, die, and still not get into the wall.

It says the
Player's Character. It's a way for a player to not loose his character and shouldn't be counted, as the following in the end suggests:
Never punish a player for not writing down a patron god on his character sheet.

Hmm, it's in the lore book, and well explained. I count it in. =P
But you know how WOTC are known to countersay what they say in other books over and over.

Well, the
Player's Guide to Faerun (page 192) says all those without patron gods gets tossed into the wall. No exceptions being mentioned. (Other than
the False, obviously)
Yours says
Player Character, so I don't count it in as being lore. Only a cheap way to not losing a character when playing with friends.

Well! Your book is called "
Player's" guide to faerun, so it doesn't count as well! *Sticks tongue out*
Let's just agree that WOTC are horrible lore writers, and go back to the OP's topic.
Some suggestions that has been made here are quite interesting, and hopefully will be noticed and kept in mind for when the devs will have time to put some work in there. I absolutly love the devils offering a chance between losing 500x/level or get out free.

The fun thing would be to add one point of evil if you deal with a devil successfully. Can't have a paladin or those darn do-gooders doing this without some taint to it!
