Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
After spending a week in jail, where there seemed a constant flow of visitors -friends- and -enemies-, Dens Bross is hung in the eastern farmlands for the charges of assault, lieing to the fist, and attempted kidnapping.
There are conflicting reports to the truth of the matter, but, most involve rumors of the charges being pressed by a female, cousin?
A female elf, who had assaulted fist guards who were taunting her over a romantic connection with Dens, was placed in the stocks next to the gallows where Dens was to be hung.
Immediately after the hanging, the elf somehow escaped the stocks and was teleported away, along with the dead body of Dens.
There is an outstanding bounty of 50,000 crown for the capture and return of the elf, and Dens' body.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
Artim the sometimes charmer can be heard loudly expressing his views at the Elfsong outdoor beer garden that gnomes make for lousy drinking buddies.
"Damn those little tricksters!" he says, to whomever he can pull their ear for the moment.
And the more Artim consumes, the louder he gets. "I'll show that lying no good want-to-be master bard a ding or three when I…when I…" Sooner or later, Artim realizes he better find his bed, and he leaves the Elfsong.
If all goes well, the next morning…he'll remember that gnome's face.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
*A number of sailor's in Ulgoth's beard relate stories of being hired by a man with red armor for easy work and good pay. They swap stories about watching this man and some priests kill a few undead from high up in the rigging, and another ship in the distance simply avoiding their slow merchant tub.
One of the sailor's comments that the man who hired them seemed to be in a remarkably good mood at the end of their short cruise.*

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
* A Knight with armor of Silver and Blue, and a cloak of Black can be seen putting up posters. Starting in Baldurs Gate he tacks posters all along the way to the Farmlands South and Wyrms Crossing, heading South along the tradeway.*
WHAT THE PRESENCE OF THE ZHENTARUM MEANS TO YOU
First off, the majority of Zhentarum are followers of Bane and Myrkul, gods of Murder and Death. They infiltrate a region, hiding their true nature by deception. Once establish they enforce their will thru intimidation and murder. They take what they want and offer no apologies or compensation.
Although, the worship of these gods along with others with evil goals and alignment, USE to be illegal. The Dukes have decided to make it only illegal if they preach their beliefs in public.
Already the Zhentarum have found their way into these lands, and although officially they are ourlawed from entering Baldurs Gate. Many known of the Zhentarum are seen on a regular basis within the city and its surrounding areas. They travel freely up and down the Tradeway and are regular fixtures at the campfire outside and inside the Friendly Arms Inn.
Many times, known necromancers and Zhentarum are given over to the Fist for prosecution, along with the evidence of their wrongdoings. Only to see them the next day released and walking freely.
SUGGESTIONS AS TO HOW TO DEAL WITH KNOWN ZHENTARUM
Do not engage in conversation with them, they will only give lies and half-truths, The Zhentarum are skilled into weaving truths into lies for their own benefit.
Do not trade with them, this only encourages them to infiltrate further into the area.
It is best to just completely ignore them or alert the Fist every time you see them within the lands of the Dukes. If seen outside the Friendly Arms Inn, just ignore them and anything they might want to say. Remember it is falsehoods they speak, therefore anything they say cannot be trusted. If seen within the Inn, alert Bentley's guards of their presence immediately.
If you find yourself in immediate danger of molestation or physical harm from the Zhentarum, then go to the Order of the Silver Rose or the Radiant Heart, they will be dealt with swiftly and harshly if they are found to be a clear and present danger.

Following an official statement released by the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary, Paladin of Tyr Cecilia is seen entering the temple of Torm. It is rumored that she seeks a cleric of The Loyal Fury, having left contact details with High Priest Olwyn in the event that one amongst their own becomes available.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
There are certain haunts within the Gate, where whispers are heard, but never seen.
In those darker corners, be it alleyway, single-lantern-lit dock, the last booth on the left in the Blushing Mermaid, or even behind half-curtain in the Elfsong Tavern, the whispers would find you. But those whispers have all but disappeared.
A hooded man with brim held low just above the eyes, creating deep shadow across his face so that only the very tip of his nose and his lips below are seen, is rumored to have offered words and questions to as to where the whispers have gone. Some may know his subject; some may not. Some may keep quiet in response to his subtle pressings for information, for to relay secrets about those that keep the greatest of secrets, might be in quick succession, detrimental.
Though the queries seem similar, the man himself does not fit a consistent appearance, and some may wonder if it is but one man, or many, that both seek and point out the silence of those that find you, and you rarely them.
And sometimes, this person conversing with subterfuge and skills to weasel information out of those that may not even know they had it, begins to imply that where once there were only whispers, perhaps with their disappearance, a new voice will replace them. A voice that no longer hides in the shadows, but hides in plain site.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
One recent night, as the light lowers upon the Dock's District, and the lanterns are lit, and for no particular reason so it seems, the sometimes-charmer known as Artim was seen reading and talking to the children of the docks, those that seem to have no home or parents, in particular. Passersby might have overheard Artim reading such tales as History of the Creator Races, or The Rise & Fall of Netheril, one of their favorite, considering the look of blandness upon their faces.
Some might also overheard Artim talking, voicing such statements as "Seems rather unmanaged…" and "If you plan on growing up in this harsh city, ye better learn to read and write, for the learned are much more in need than without…" and "…what do you mean they are not talking…." The children soaked up what Artim had to offer, in both lesson and query.
That in the end he tossed them 10gp each after his interaction, could easily have helped hold their attention.
Later, at the Elfsong, after a number of fine ales, Artim was flush with pride, it seems, often talking aloud about "…well they need someone to take care of them…." Assuredly, Artim hoped his favorite bar maiden would think favorably upon him, as well, for his apparent altruistic actions.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
A bell tolls from within the Order of the Radiant Heart Courtyard, signalling a new beginning for the auxiliary as a number of ceremonies for it's Brotherhood are undertaken within it's halls. Word eventually leaves the compound, Sir Arkaine Halforken of Helm has been knighted as the new Grandmaster of the Order. Quieter murmurs speak of a tied vote in the lead up, broken only by the half-orcs own vote of self. Regardless, there is many a congratulatory chatter coming from within the compound over the following days and all are in agreeance - it is the beginning of a new chapter within the Order.
Let it be a blessed and righteous one.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
In a dim lit room tucked far from prying eyes a lone figure stands before a small altar to the Lord of Shadows. Clad in dark leather and hooded he stares at the candles and fetishes of the mysterious god before producing a well worn cup and bottle. Kneeling, the man sets it upon the altar and unstoppers the bottle. A red liquid fills the cup before it is pulled away leaving a few crimson drops, black in the light of the place, on the small stone stand.
Gold coins rain on the altar, a few spilling over the floor as they bounce, their sound musical as they strike its surface. Done, the figure draws a short blade and lays it across his lap, his wrapped head dipping low in prayer as he does.
Later in the evening...
A large dark clad and masked man quietly opens a door and slips inside. He silently approaches the small fire where a group of small boys are huddled. He listens to their conversation and waits. As the conversation wanes and quiet settles among their number a large sack is tossed in their midst, partly open, some of the fresh food spilling into the dirty floor. As their surprised faces turn on the imposing silent figure he raises a small pouch and opens its drawstrings before tossing it at their feet, gold coins spilling on the floor. Not a kings ransom by any means it has enough coin for at least a week of food for each boy and girl.
"He looks after the faithful. The faithful look after themselves and the family. Never forget." Done, the figure turns and walks back toward the door, the sign of Mask sewn intricately into his cloak well visible to all before the shadows suddenly engulf him midstep.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
In the late hours of he evening a figure clad in brown cloth, covered head to toe enters a quiet temple. Looking over the temple before sitting on their knees in front of a Mask. In some form of ritual, four coins are placed in the form of a star. Left to right, top to bottom, soft murmurs are whispered under the breath. In the centre is placed a golden bowl, holding the dainty hand high above the bowl various gems and gold fall, making a song of sorts as they fall. After sitting in meditation for a while the figure stands quietly leaving the room.
~
Near the dilapidated warehouse, as young orphans gather. A figured dressed in rags of brown approaches, the small figure is hunched walking slowly. Standing before the orphans the figure tips out a bag by the fire. It is full of warm bread, some coin and a few trinkets that could make a some quick coin though nothing entirely expensive.
The figure stands back as it watches the orphans bustle about the items. Once seemingly satisfied the figure wonders away seemingly fading odd into the shadows.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
A man collapses in one of the Harbor District's darkened alleyways, or so the rumor goes. It is said the dark-haired man, dressed in the trappings of a dock-worker, rambled quite incoherently about the stars and their beauty. To any whom might ask, fellow dock-workers state his vision seemed completely unfocused before he passed out with a thud.
News told, rumors heard, truth implied, facts buried.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate

After months of absence it is a badly damaged Whistling Wanderess that makes it back to the harbour. Its main mast is destroyed and makeshift reparations do not hide the fact the ship suffered heavily, as if rocks rained upon her.
For all the hardships the disembarking crew seems both in high spirits and as numerous as usual. Mealir can soon be seen meeting ship carpenters.

Re: Rumors of Baldur's Gate
After a loud commotion echoing from the upper rooms of the Helm and Cloak Inn, patrons begin the spreading and discussion of a rumor depicting the amusing scene which followed: a brunette half-elf, arms wrapped around a squawking chicken, is seen fleeing down the stairs and bursting out the front door of the establishment, running in the direction of the sewers as if for her very life.
