Re: 'Wilderness / Open PVP area'
The last couple of posts make this seem like the pvp area is only needed so that some people can get some kind of revenge on other players that try to not get their characters permakilled... Might be a misconception but it sounds like it...

Re: 'Wilderness / Open PVP area'
If done in the right way, we really shouldn't need to change any server rules. I've never understood why people who play on a server with no permadeath in place have such a hard time tailoring their roleplay to accommodate said lack of permadeath. Instead of saying you "killed" somebody, you simply say you "defeated" them or something. Nobody is going to give us the gear they've spent years acquiring after being beaten in pvp, so if we're playing a bandit, how about we refrain from rp'ing a situation where we're trying to acquire it? It's simple stuff, here, folks; small OOC concessions to the fact that we're not trying to ruin other people's fun with our ultra-realistic bandit/malarite/etc. roleplay.
Actually, the permadeath conversation should really be in it's own thread. It's just a distraction at this point. Lobbying for pvp rules changes should be in another thread as well, imo.
Setting it up so that anybody entering the 'arena' or pvp-area or accepting the pvp-quest is auto-consenting to pvp with a simple dialogue box that has a small OOC warning should suffice, no? Or do it like the transition to the UD in Durlag's tower. It specifically states that you need DM permission to proceed. A message like that stating that you're consenting to pvp by entering would work just fine.

The losing all gear and stuff...you know 3strike rule right? let it reset monthly and issue resolved. Unless someone is dumb enough to have 2 on his char and runs like a tard into his enemies that clearly want to perm him;D

Isn't stopping your regular activity because 'I have two permastrikes' called 'metagaming'? Your character doesn't know what a permadeath strike is and probably doesn't care.

Didn't this discussion sort of end right here or did I miss something? Uncertain why the pages keep scrolling by. The discussion and debate was shut down in no uncertain terms as if often the case with upper management who like to keep things as they are. I encounter this situation as a consultant on the regular, but I get paid for it and can still walk away with billable hours.Maecius wrote:We're not going to make a map where there are neither rules nor consequences, though.
The numbers on the server indicate they are doing something right even if something is being done not optimally and/or wrong so who are we to question? You don't rank in the top 3 servers at any given moment if you aren't "doing it right". That is where my analogy breaks down, most of the companies with intractable management who cannot adapt are failing. BGTSCC is not that I can see.

This is a pretty mean comparison upper management, kingdom, intractable management. The point you got right is that they are doing something right although, they don't do something right but a lot.Darkwind wrote:Didn't this discussion sort of end right here or did I miss something? Just a hobby and the old school playerbase as well as upper management like the kingdom just as it is.

Oh and also a good point that we could end the discussion because Mac already said that there won't be an area without rules nor consequences, that conflicts with the server rules themselves.
Gotta say I am getting sick of people trying to pick a fight with the creators of this great server just because they think they can demand certain things which they in reality have no right to.
Yes they can listen to criticism and implement these ideas to further improve this already great server, if however an idea is not as well thought through as some might think they do us good in not following through with it.

Not sure Darkwind is picking a fight exactly, but he is using pretty harsh comparisons and others have done that as well for instance in the xp increase topic.Face wrote:Who is picking a fight and who is demanding stuff?

Re: 'Wilderness / Open PVP area'
agree that with Mac's announcement of there being no such area, the discussion really lost traction and the thread became much less discussion oriented moving away from the pros/cons of such an area.
as far as people "picking fights". i (personally) can argue a point with passion without being upset by the counter argument. i do not take anyone's opinions personally and know the difference between a personal attack and another person standing up for their side of the argument. these (mostly) free form discussions are usually helpful (from what i can see) to understanding the many personalities that make up our fine player base. if used it can gain insight from all sides of the community to the betterment of the server. it gives us (the players) insight upon the leadership and in turn allows a forum for the leadership to get feedback from the players. this (to me) is a good thing and I am so thankful for this.

Re: 'Wilderness / Open PVP area'
Harsh comparisons are okay. Harsh criticism as well. While not all agree with it.....the person is not wrong to be critical. It is not a fact that BG does not evolve. There is other proof already to the contrary. They are SLOW to change and ABSTAIN at first until a GOOD angle can be attained. Yet it is no secret that a good portion of the server admin have been up until recently very hardline in their stance of the change of the server. I personally credit this to the disappearance of Luna. With the new Admin there is a much softer stance on change but they still do not want to change what BG is essentially. So all ideas will be put through the think tank before being assimilated if at all.K'yon Oblodra wrote:Not sure Darkwind is picking a fight exactly, but he is using pretty harsh comparisons and others have done that as well for instance in the xp increase topic.Face wrote:Who is picking a fight and who is demanding stuff?
I think we as people need to be less offended by how and what people say and be more attentive to the idea of what they are conveying instead. Not like he/she was calling anyone names. Simply stating what he/she felt was a fact. They are after all allowed to express that thought.
The biggest thing I take from King Mac on his statement was to me IF there were a NO RULES area, then there would be CONSEQUENCES for losing a RP PvP! The statement said the SERVER HAS NO INTEREST IN A NO RULES, NO CONSEQUENCE AREA. So if it has no consequence there are going to be rules. You want no rules? Then you have to accept the consequences of that. Pretty simple in my mind....but I am known to be wrong.......
