Judging from what we've been seeing of loot gain, players have been getting
a lot more of the exceptionally good items than before.
Thank you for the explanation. I was thinking of defining song more concrete lines like: “Longsword with +4/+3/+2/+2 is not going to happen. But Lonsword +4/+2/+1 with vamp regen is now x8 more likely.”
Nonetheless, it is great news if PCs are acquiring exceptionally good items...but WHERE are you seeing this? PMs sent in with pics? Private channels?
I’ve been IG on dungeon adventures for 8-10 hours since the loot rebalance has come online, and I honestly, so very honestly, have looted NOTHING better from chests, than before the rebalance...and this is with visiting both CR 27 area with a lvl 30 PC and CR 11-13 Areas with a lvl 15 PC.
I can chalk it up bad luck overall with the RIG Rolls, but I’d also want to see actual proof of these exceptional finds, before I’m going to believe it!

lvl 22 going to Reaching Woods, Yuan-ti, and Naga cave(with 3 other people and not solo)
-Blazing Skyspear (400-500k at epic shop)
-Boot +4 AC, +1 AC vs good = +5 AC vs good

-Epic Whip +4 EB, 8 mass crit, AB +2
few days after at Reaching Woods
-Greatsword SR32 (for GMW Gish)
few other friends found(3-7 other people)
-2 epic ninja amulet
-1 epic ninja cloak
-1 epic ninja boot
-+4 warhammer 1d4 electric
-+4 deflection ring
-adamantine warhammer SR 22
-2-3 other items from epic shop
dwarf friend found in Frost Keep
-Salamander armor
-belt of Rhaumathar
Perhaps the loot system give better luck to people working together 3-6 in party compared to soloing for personal wealth and gain only?

Both issues I’m willing to concede are affecting the outcome (or not?!?).

Nope, no advantage for partying over soloing as far as loot goes.

From my perspective, I am still going to low CR areas to do quests, and it feels the same the only difference is that now it feels more of a waste of time because chests on the area just give nothing.
If it is a waste of your time, don't do it! The fact that it's not worth your time to go to a low-level dungeon even for a quest seems to say that this loot rebalance has helped to fix the issue of quests not being balanced for all levels too; hopefully high-level PCs won't keep doing low-level quests.
I said it feels like one, but I like the exp so I will keep going into low level areas, it just feels more punishing but otherwise a necessary evil of having to deal with this.

Killed the White Dragon in a group of 8 level 30 characters.
Loot from the Dragon:
- 5,000 gold
- Book worth ~80 gold
- Banded Mail /w +1 Con, +2 Str, 14 SR
- Light Shield /w +1 AC
- 2 Chest Keys (not shown in screenshots)
Loot from the first chest:
Loot from the second chest:
Loot from the third chest:
Loot from the fourth chest:
- 72 gold
- 219 Bullets /w +3 damage
- Boots /w +6 Hit Points
Loot from the fifth chest:
- 38 gold
- Scroll of Burning Hands
- Minor Blob of Acid Trap Kit
Loot from the sixth chest:
Bonus loot from the Speartop Troll Cave chest (through portal):
- 49 gold
- Book worth ~40 gold
- 224 Darts /w +5 EB
The only item I would consider decent at all were the +5 Darts. However, those being darts, and the highly limited market for selling them to players, I wouldn't consider them a good find. Lucky perhaps, but definitely not a good one. The only mitigating factor being their total vendor worth of 5,376 gold (24 gold each), which I might just end up doing.
Only the second, and sixth chest at the dragon felt worthwhile for the effort. The rest was on par with what I got previously from running around in the Trollclaws.
Total gold from the dragon's chests was 1,866 gold.
Items from the dragon's chests sold for about 500 gold total, with the +3 bullets contributing the bulk of that.
Grand total value from the dragon's chests, and the troll cave chest, was 7,831 gold. The majority of this from the troll cave chest.
Was the dragon worth the effort? No. Not at all. For purely monetary gains, I would rather run a CR 15 to 20 area, and rely on drops from monsters, skeletons, and barrels — that is, everything
not currently using the chest loot script.
Fights that require multiple characters to complete should feel much much more rewarding than areas that any level 30 character can just breeze through. Not because of the CR of the area, but because of the effort required to organize for such an area.

@zhazz-
The running idea here seems to be you and your group would have to “Slay the White Dragon Run” about 8 times before expecting Loot that would be “great” and even useful for any Level 30 PC.
So...try it 7 more times man!!!

Turns out the white dragon cave wasn't updated so the loot was unfortunately, and expectedly, bad.

I have similar experiences running Frost Keep/Lizards/Lich in Cloudpeaks 3 times now. Lizards is frankly pretty tough to gauge as there is only one chest, the rest of the loot is from a couple of crates, bones and a barrel. Similarly Lich only has a couple chests and is a pretty small area. Frost Keep though one of the two boss chests and one of the three randomized location chests seems to be giving decent loot (haven't found anything epic, but generally getting a fairly high amount of gold and ok gear up to +3). The second boss chest and the other two randomized chests give about 50gp and low level scrolls or potions in all 3 runs.
My personal opinion, which may or may not fit within the expectations of general/popular opinion is that the 'epic' or even 'greater' loot percentages do not need increased, it is more that the floor needs raised. This, unfortunately is a bit of a different ask as the loot table is quite a mess and while I am going through it to make future management of the tables a little easier for builders to utilize and developers in the future to tweak. This is a very big job and I am not overly competent with anything related to coding/scripting so it'll take some time.
This doesn't mean we can't / shouldn't continue to look at the current looting experience, just calling out that no matter the tier chest there is always a chance for something weak or *really* weak....and maybe the best option is to simply remove the very worst of the loot and minimum gold, rather than increasing the chances for epic stuff. And of course, if an area was missed and just has inaccurate chest tiers that can be addressed more easily.
Cheers,
