The short grey-skinned tiefling with white hair curiously and quietly observes the Priestess of Lathandar in her morning prayer celebrating the rising of the sun as it spreads it's warmth across the lands. As the Priesstess ends her prayers, the tiefling turns her attention back to the campfire in an attempt to avoid the Priestess' notice.

"Don't eat the bad meat it's a cheat! Double check your meat or you'll end beat!"

A black haired woman is seen and heard singing this nursery rhyme like song around Baldur's Gate accompanying her voice with a lute. Apparently in relation to the recent rumors of bad meat circulating around the Gate. Said woman claims to be the worst bard in the Sword Coast when asked and introduces herself as Jalette.

Thayan Circle Leader for Evocation Soni'vaphra Anishtep set up a stand along the caravan route through the Eastern Farmlands selling wands, and even a large greatsword, to passers-by, while her personal guard Kurvallaxion Brax stood by to keep order.

She considered the sale a success and says she will return in a tenday or so.

Those interested in wands in the interim were told to visit the Enclave and place an order.

A group of four was seen pushing an exorbitantly expensive wagon stuffed with golden bars into the city of Baldur's Gate. A male tiefling called Reiker was seemingly doing most of the work, while the other three persons tried to help! The wagon was left outside of Sword Coast Commercial Exchange building, and it took many hours for the local employees to count and document the summ invested.

Of the initial group, only Zamari remained through the process. She has received all documents, leaving clueless thumb imprints on them. Rumor says that there was no less than several hundred thousands worth of gold pieces invested into the bank, but nobody knows where did the local Ilmateri temple caretaker obtained so much wealth from.

During the recent concert and market, a red tent housing Thayan magical wares, tea and fine wines did brisk business with adventurers. Wands frequently sold out and apprentices from the Enclave were kept on their toes.

After raising a substantial amount of coin for the Church of Ilmater, Soni'vaphra Anishtep and Thayan Knight Kurvallaxion Brax escorted the gnome Nod Nexis and his heavy chest of gold to the Church of Ilmater to ensure the funds reached the intended destination.

As they entered, the wizard's lip curled in disgust, however, her visage was quickly schooled back into a neutral cast. Once the gnome dropped off his treasure, they both briskly departed.

Within the Harbor District, a certain section of the docks sees a bustle of activity as a delivery is made. Carts of goods are rolled out of the House Darius warehouse, wheeled over to the nearby Siren's Song, and are unloaded upon it by House Darius employees. Those goods are brought below deck by the sailors and deckhands working upon the ship. Given the type of goods unloaded and talk amongst the crew, one could likely surmise that the ship is stocking up for upcoming parties & events.

The Last Anchor
A Review and Persepective
Written by: Skye Le’Quella

When you enter the city of Ulgoth’s Beard, you’re met with the sights and sounds of a quaint fishing town far removed on the outskirts of civilization. On the right night, you may hear the cacophony of the bells from the outstretched lighthouse or the rhythmic tapping of some of the sword coasts finest craftsmen. This is not a place for troubles. This is a place where the tide rolls in slow and your worries right there with it.
Among the mixed stands of artisans and taverns rests one seemingly unremarkable building adorned with a sign reading “The Last Anchor”. Built more recently than other taverns in the village, the Last Anchor is nothing less than a hidden marvel tucked away in this quaint beach shanty.
Upon visiting The Last Anchor, the proprietor of the estate Derik Ranloss let me in on some of the history of the residence. He began with the tale of the Twilight Rose, a ship owned and operated originally by one Captain Desrah. Most of the captain’s history is unknown ;as they disappeared suddenly from the sword coast and passed it down to Captain Aiden. This only adds mystery and excitement to the building that once operated as the meeting grounds for the crew.
Once the ship was retired to the docs little is known about it. Some say it was converted into a pleasure cruise, destined to float and rot away in the docks of Baldur’s Gate. Regardless, the legacy of the ship and its crew has been etched in every piece of trim, molding, and board of building.
There is a certain warmth and coziness you feel walking into the tavern, and it's not from the slow burning crackle of the massive nautical fireplace. There is a story to this establishment beyond the sea, past the ship, and tucked away in every fiber of the building. A story of love between two adventurers. Our Proprietor Derik and his dear wife Lannia.
The small tavern was given to the two of them as a wedding gift by Captain Aiden to grow their love and that they did. The two of them added to the tavern preserving the legacy of the Twilight Rose in all facets of the decor. From the maps framed against the salt stained wooden walls, to the large nautical globe across from the fireplace; not a single detail is left out. The Last Anchor truly is a hidden gem for anyone looking for some rustic comfort on their get-away.
Their menu includes practical and lavish meals suited for all walks of life; grand and small. This thought was added by Lannia who believed in serving the community that harbored their residence for so long. This hasn’t gone unnoticed. Remember the artisans I mentioned before? Many of the stands including the blacksmith and barn have been paid for by the two young proprietors on profits made by the establishment. Ask around, and you may hear about a typical stay as followed.
Cool sea salt air blows through the window welcoming in the sun through the rustic wooden window frames of the classic shanty. Dancing through the stairs comes the aroma of fresh blueberry pancakes; a favorite of Lannias. A knock is heard from the door, but before you could get out of bed you are offered an array of breakfast. Eggs, toast, and bacon, followed by a score of fresh fruit. After breakfast comes the one complaint with the visit. “Where to begin the day?” The inn boasts an upstairs and downstairs gathering room that host a plethora of celebrations. You may find yourself in at the bar sharing a story, or perhaps at the sauna taking in the steam of a hot soak. There are no wrong answers for those looking to dedicate some time for themselves in this small yet robust tavern. Live like a Duke while preserving your pockets. Rest easy at an inn dedicated to love in every detail.

Final Thoughts from the Editor:
My stay with The Last Anchor was enjoyable. In a system of favorability, I am ranking this inn as a four roses on a five rose scale. While the selection of wine was minimal, their local rum and whiskey carried a warm and savory note endemic to the area. The staff was friendly and accommodating. Many of the rooms were quiet and much of the sounds of the night were replaced by the bubbling of the hot bath thrashing away to the hot rocks resting at the bottom. Special notice comes to the food, which is dedicated to Lannia’s favorite dishes. From the blueberry pancakes to the roasted boar, every meal was hot and kept to tradition. This inn is highly recommended for adventurers of any walk of life. I would like to give special thanks to Derik Ranloss for sharing the history of the inn and taking the time to lend me the time for an interview. This review and perspective is dedicated to the loving memory of Lannia Ranloss.

For the last ten-day, a new face has been staying at the Blushing Mermaid. Heavy makeup, gaudily done blonde hair that is somehow still messy, and yet she still dresses in a simple blouse and pants.

She speaks with the other patrons regularly, but never for long and always with shifting brown eyes. Then she disappears in he room for the rest of the night, followed by a felines shadow.

When asked for a name, she offers Angelica with a broad smile.

A woman wearing a mithral breastplate with a small insignia of an opossum, fancy jewelry and an elegant haircut approaches the woman with a friendly smile.

"Miss Angelica, I am Jalette Marshybem! I noticed you around the harbor lately, have you visited the Siren's Song? I sing and play the lute there, perhaps you would like to visit us one day."

The bard remains politely smiling during the interaction.

Some may have come across a lover's quarrel near the arena; tears plenty, along with pleading and angry remarks. The Fiendish Silverstar would be carried off after a loving embrace by the High Lady, through the palace district, returning her home.

Throughout the city, missing persons fliers have been pinned to notice boards and posts, searching for a young woman with brown hair and silver eyes. However, these fliers often vanish before a full day is passed.

A strange sight was seen at the Eastern gate in which four people attired in battle raiment, though looking very different from one another were seen checking their equipment and packs outside the Temple of Mystra. Two of them were in full plate, carrying tabards with the symbol of Mystra upon it, the two others looked to be older, frailer, and dressed in blue and silver cloth, carrying a quarterstaff each.

Image

With them was a wheezing old knight who had likely seen better days, but also in full plate mail with some odd dragons adorning the shoulders.

Next to him was a younger woman who seemed to be humming a soft melody as the group marched out of the gate and headed north.

A few of the more fearful, racially-profiling sort that have business around the caravan stops in the Eastern Farmlands have shared a story of the arrival of a Halfbreed, a Greenskin, a Half-Orc, a story toned with soft-to-hard layers of base contempt.
It is told that a caravan from the north arrived filled to the full with cargo and passengers, alongside it walking at pace, the halfbreed, perhaps at first considered a guard to the wagon itself. But upon arrival, the caravanmaster would be seen casting off the top of the carriage a bundle of things, letting it crash hard to ground somewhat near the Half-orc traveler, no attempt to kindly communicate or resolve the intentionally careless act of inventory release.
The halfbreed himself, large like his kind is naturally and full of chaotic strength, appeared conscious of the indirect treatment by the caravan, that his place among the others, being of half-orc blood, was not given equal standing. By all attempts to intuit the proceedings, the Half-orc was likely made to walk, and not given seat. And now, the quicker such a being was away from association, the better.
The Half-orc, then, collected his things, which were carefully inventoried and equipped—a warhammer, shield and light chain armor, along with an pack of tools for exploring and long adventuring. The Half-orc remained quiet as he did so, frequently raising his gaze to take in the surroundings of the farmlands and the entrance gate to the City, but without staring too long in any direction nor upon any person or persons—it would have seemed this Half-orc was skilled in doing whatever possible to not stir up attention.
The more soft-hearted rumor spreaders would speak of this character with caution, but also with pity, for none would argue that a halfbreed Orc would have anything of an easy life, with such a face of great jaws, tusks and swine-like features, to embody from cradle to grave. The harder-hearted folk, and those that have had direct and indirect experience with the many Orc-led invasions and strife experienced in the past on the Sword Coast, could barely hold back the need to spit when even mentioning this particular arrival, for any amount of savage blood was a poison of evil to the soul, and if they had the power in their hands, such lumberfoots would be banned from even sight of the City walls. And that a new arrival such as this, would cause nothing but trouble.
Later, some would say they saw this particular Half-orc "mercenary"—as he was now labeled, perhaps rightfully so—heading off to one or more of the city establishments of the lower classes, where one "...of his kind" would not be turned away. And, to those establishments were the adventure-seeking professions took their meals and ale. "Just another one headed soon to the grave...and good riddance" the more hard-hearted would comment. "Or maybe a struggle in life finally given sweet relief..." would reply the more soft-hearted.

And so it would play out: the Half-orc mercenary, that would come to be known in time as Chezar the Bloodeyed, began his life on the Sword Coast.
