Bounty: Monsters at Sea
A notice remains posted within Baldur's Gate. It seems to have been altered, recently.

By Duchal decree, a bounty is being offered for the destruction of the following monsters lurking in the Sea of Swords. Sailors are advised to be cautious, especially on strange foggy nights. Interested parties should approach Officer Ushra of the Flaming Fist.

Three posters hang beneath the notice. Two of them seem to have been claimed.

With all bounties claimed, the seas seem to be safe once again. However, the ominous green fog still looms, far out at sea...

Rumors spread around taverns that a tiefling was hanged early this evening for attempted sacrificial murder of a small family in East Gate District, which was fortunately stopped by some adventurers and members of the City Guard. With yet another tiefling attempting such acts, most of regulars at taverns not only agree that "It's a good thing that damn fiend died", but also wonder if they don't need to be kept in check in some way or another. Some feel like the situation is slowly getting out of hand as of late.

Despite dark tidings from the north, and the cities own recent troubles, trade in Baldur's Gate seems to be flourishing, with several prominent merchant houses expanding their business. Those paying attention to such matters would notice the following:

Fountain of Gold, a well standing house within the city seems to be aggressively expanding its shares in raw silver and silver-work.

House Pirelle, having already a strong background in grain trade began expanding its business into pottery, laying down a network and pouring investments all over the city.

House Madamas, hailing originally from Tethyr, this merchant house has operated within Baldur's Gate for decades, moving majority of its business to the city once the Tethyrian civil war started. They have been expanding into jewelry over the years, however recently their rise in that market began to climb exponentially.

What prompted this "boom" is anyone's guess.

Recently the Fifth Company of the Flaming Fist was mobilized in an emergency fashion in Baldur's Gate and sent with several wagons north, towards Fields of the Dead. Nobody have said publicly what it is about, but many are murmuring that this is in response to the most recent word of troll army and the omen of red comets crossing Selûne's face.

A small crowd gathered outside of a residence in the Eastern Gate District on 8 Mirtul 1354. The Fist announced a murder had taken placed but offered no more details. A priestess of Selune from the crowd offered aid, and was escorted within the residence, returning shortly after. The crowd was then dispersed, as armed watchman stood guard throughout the night.

A Priest was robbed of his helm near the Lord's Alliance building. Adventurers and curious passerby stood about discussing what may have occurred, but a few intrepid adventurers began investigating in greater detail...

///OOC, not part of rumor
Rumors run quicker then a sending through the streets of the Baldur's Gate Docks district, a Priest robbed of his helm and many thought the Thieves Guild was to blame. A few adventurers looked for clues and asked questions of the guards and potential witnesses, but there was one who took up the search under cover of shadow.

Entering the Fields of the dead like one of the ghosts who frequent the aptly named field, the man followed the clues he found to a crypt. Utilizing a minor illusion to hide his presence he raced through the tunnels, it becoming apparent there was another ahead of him in the chase. He came upon her moments after she had executed sentence on the robbers. Deciding to make his presence known he assisted her in destroying the multitudes of Shades and evil Priests and questioned her. Quite inquisitive herself, he gave little and less information, but learned that she had already acquired the helm and some book she had mentioned. After a time she agreed to drop a copy of the book off to a location of his choosing and he gave one. The woman then made a hasty exit by teleportation, leaving the man alone with the corpses. He set about his grisly work...
///

///Common knowledge, would be circulated by the rumor mill.///
Two mornings after the robbery occurred, as the city begins to waken, a pile of four heads, tarred for preservation are found outside the Lord's Alliance building grounds. Each head has a word scrawled by a sharp instrument. The head's read "SCAB", "SQUATTER", "OUTSIDER", AND "TRESPASS".
The commoners at harbor district, guards and merchants are aghast at the vile and barbaric display of severed heads in front of Lord's Alliance building grounds. Many have taken it as a threat to the Lord's Alliance, while others have decided that it must be a work of some vile cult inside the city. Tongues are wagging in taverns that "No normal person would do such shite. Tis what orcs and other damnable monsters do, not proper persons.". Commoners at Harbor District hope that the perpetrator of this grissly desecration of the dead is caught soon enough.

The City Watch removed the heads and, notably, increased their patrols in Harbor District.

Bandits on the Tradeway!!
Image
A local merchant named Tomlin in the Eastern Farmlands had to make the long trip down the tradeway from BG to Beregost to get his supplies to Thunderhammer. He asked a few adventurers to help guard the supply caravan for the trip and promised the pay would be good. Several of them agreed to it and the long journey began.

Many other adventurers joined the group as it went along. The rumors of the Tradeway's dangers became quickly apparent as there were Bandits, Cutthroats and Thieves attacking at every turn. Only a few casualties were had with such a large group of protectors but they were healed quickly.

The merchant's horse was said to be quite the feisty one bucking and kicking at the bandits if they came anywhere near the caravan. They arrived at Beregost finally and the merchant Tomlin, no worse for the wear, thanked the adventurers profusely and paid them well in gold coins.

Word spread throughout Baldur's Gate about recent damage done to the roof tops of some buildings in the Harbor. It would seem a couple weeks ago some strange black creature was seen flying from the fields of the dead. The creature was wounded, stumbling across the rooftops, scraping shingles before desperately taking flight again. Any of those brave enough to hunt capture or destroy this creature would come with a reward from the Flaming Fist.

Various news, gossip and whispers continue to circulate from Baldur's Gate.

From the palace district, word spreads that a beautiful archmage recently pledged her loyalty to the city, making quite on those in attendance.

From the harbor district, rumors disseminate that a shipment of superlative silver weapons arrived at the Flaming Fist headquarters in the Harbor District of Baldur's Gate. House Darius is rumored to be the source, though whether these weapons are intended as part of a transaction or as a mere gift is uncertain to those outside the involved parties. Those who catch a glimpse of the weapons make a point of marveling at their quality.

The Flaming Fist is quick to secure the weapons for safekeeping.

Rumour has it that Ulgoth's Beard is abuzz with activity. Members of the Last Anchor... Derik and Lannia Ranloss, Ronja, Teris, Lylan'Synor, Niyressa, Aidan and others along with the crew hired by the renowned builder and architect Barbryn Glori from the Merchant League of Baldur's Gate have improvements to the tiny hamlet well underway.

With the growing need for decent armor and weapons, the first building to go up was the Blacksmith Shop. In other news the pigs are so happy with their new found peace and quiet now that he is no longer next to their pens. It is said the weathered old Blacksmith was so thrilled to have a decent place of his own, that he hired on an Apprentice to help him!

Rumors spread in Baldur's Gate that an Aasimar has passed away three days after being escorted to the Ilmater shrine. She spoke about a dream regarding "many eyes".

The temple of Ilmater welcomes in those who report nightmares or dreams to reside under the wards of the temple. Flaming Fist soldiers double patrols and offer escorts to those walking the streets at night.

((Those who sleep in the city as Aasimar or Tiefling. Feel free to contact me if your character does not take any precautions before sleeping))
