Late last year, I had this same situation. Server kept showing timed out, even though the player counter clearly showed an active status. I wasn't able to log in for months. Spoke with the admins - it wasn't a CD Key ban nor a blocked IP address. Nobody seem to be able to pinpoint the problem, then strangely, I was able to log in again a couple of months later.
This time round, I can't afford to be unable to log in for months. Have brought new friends to the server and we are an active group.
Saying this just in case... Are you trying via Direct Connect and it keeps failing? If so, have you downloaded the Client Extension? If not, do so. Give your internet box a restart too - wait 5 mins or longer (important) before starting it again.
You might've tried this but sometimes it's the little things...

We're undergoing another round of DDOS attacks. As a result Aspect of Sorrow turned on our DDOS mitigation protocols once more and to be able to access the game you'll first need to click the link on the player counter at the top of the forum (where it says "click here" and try again in 5 minutes).
It would be immensely helpful if everyone who reads this could please try your best to increase player awareness of this by sending notices to your guilds, Skype groups, Discord servers, etc. since inevitably this post might get buried and someone might not see it!
As before these measures are temporary and should be lifted as soon as the attacker grows bored and moves on again.
