The "Fey Heritage" and "Fiendish Heritage" feats currently in game appear to be a simple way to establish that a warlock is of 'bloodline' origin. Players of warlock characters without one or both of these feats should have a "pact origin" back story ready to provide to DMs on request to facilitate additional roleplay opportunities during DM events. I expect that updating the server specific rules classes forum entry for warlocks would be simple enough and would encourage players to think about the origin of their warlock characters prior to creating them.

Oh, my warlock is going to get every single Fey Heritage feat, for the damage reduction. Do I have any interest in role-playing a 'fey-pact' warlock? Not a single drop.

And anyhow, heritage feats represent a 'blood' ancestor so distant that a human who takes those feats remains a human. Sure, there is that drop of supernatural in their blood-line that when learned how to use, provides certain things but that is about it.

And quite frankly, we could have several other Heritage feats in game, like dragon, orc, or so.

I won't do heart, but I'll do earth or air.

Too bad our "Captain Planet" summons will probably get us executed.

I assure that my Warlock character is from more serious stock than the Captain Planet cartoon.

Dragon heritage feats?

If they ever get implemented... RCR time again :( .

That actually made me wonder if draconic blood allows for Warlock casting. It already is associated with bards and sorcerers and the RDD/DragonHeart mage classes can't be taken by warlocks, only bards and sorcerers.

On Skyrim-style characters, I give you Dracolexi.
(And it was created before Skyrim!)

And the shout is:
Fus Ro Dah : Unrelenting Force

Dracolexi style:
Osvith! And the target runs!

You would not have to be be a Fey-Pact warlock though, you could be a bloodline warlock, able to tap into the innate power of your latent extraplanar blood (and I do not mean "blood" literally, Hoihe, so don't even start about sorcerer / warlock / dragon warrior / blood mage builds) to fuel your magic, no different than a tiefling. And before you go accusing me of saying all this to benefit my warlock, do not worry - she may have all of the Fey Heritage feats, but she is most certainly Pacted, and most definitely not to some pixie-fart fey. Just because an option is available does not mean you have to use it.

As for a drop of blood allowing for casting - what do you call a sorcerer who gains magic from distant draconic heritage? What do you call a tiefling unpacted warlock? If you would claim that the Heritage feats are any weaker of a relation, you are wrong (though I suppose you could certainly play it as 'your ancestors 10000000 generations ago got frisky with a fairy'. Whatever floats your boat.)

A person with all 5 Fey feats has 5/Cold Iron damage reduction, gains the ability to use Charm Monster, Deep Slumber, Disguise Self, Confusion, Dimension Door, Summon Nature's Ally V, becomes a more powerful Enchanter and is more resistant to enchantment effects. That list of abilities is more powerful than some actual pureblooded fey from the Monster Manual get.

Likewise, a person with all 5 Fiendish Heritage feats gains 12 resistance to fire and acid, can use Teleport, Cause Fear, Summon Monster V, Unholy Blight, Detect Thoughts, Suggestion, is far more resistant to poison, and cast Evil spells with greater power. It seems that they are more tiefling than a tiefling, who in comparison simply has Darkness, Dakvision, and resistance to cold 5, electricity 5, and fire 5.

And should we have the 'Draconic Heritage' in game, there are actually more Draconic Heritage feats than you can pick. Though I would get both Draconic Lineage and Dragon Breath simply to expand the Sorcerer's limited Spell Selection.

It would certainly spawn another Hoihe rebuild, nothing but draconic heritage feats.

The trick would be to release them one by one, each time Hoihe is near 30.
