Changelog? Or do we wait for the Alwayssummerday version

Short answer is that wand/scroll/potion users will be dispelled rather easily by spamming mobs. CL is set based on the caster level obsidian made (so for instance barkskin scroll/wands is always CL 12, shield is CL 5). So assassin spells, blackguard spells, caster builds with less than CL29 and umd users can be dispelled.Snarfy wrote:An update is apparently impending, we just got the server message. Is this "the" update I wonder?
Also... I'm a bit fuzzy on something, and a little concerned about the "dispel fix" going in. Forgive my ignorance, but maybe someone can explain how this is going to affect wand/scroll usage? I'm a bit ignorant on wands/scrolls and CL in general, so specifically:
- How hard is this "fix"(I hesitate to even call it that, based on everything I've heard) going to hit those that use wands to buff?
- Is the CL of wands/scrolls based on the crafters CL, or the users?
- are pixies/orcs/mobs in general(and their cheating AI that spams dispel at warded toons) going to be able to dispel wand/consumable reliant toons to the nines?

Dagesh wrote:CL doesn't come into effect when crafting. Player casts spell, game creates item on PC (after a bunch of internal checks). edit: The created item is whatever is in the palette. There is no check for caster level and custom CL for wands/scrolls/potions.
Ahh, gotcha.chad878262 wrote:The caster level of the wand crafter doesn't matter, shield wand will always be CL5 and this easy to dispel. Easy to test it, use the wand and set a timer to see when it expires (shield is a 1min/level spell). Not sure what level death ward casts at... 7 maybe? This would be why the dispel from orcs works the first time since they have higher CL.
Whoa-whoa! You mean, that NOW you have CL 29+ or you WILL BE DISPELLED?chad878262 wrote:Short answer is that wand/scroll/potion users will be dispelled rather easily by spamming mobs. Isn't that how it is supposed to originally work? The dispel bug was the game using character level, not caster level. But it's SUPPOSED to be JUST caster level.Shadowcryer wrote:Whoa-whoa! Yes, but the game-world was build knowing that the bug was there !TheKai wrote:Isn't that how it is supposed to originally work? The dispel bug was the game using character level, not caster level. Now that'll be some fun eh!Theodore01 wrote: Yes, but the game-world was build knowing that the bug was there !
If it is now not anymore, then many of the encounters needs to be altered to reflect that.
I kindly offer you a link here, since it seems like such unawarness of players and administration about PhB rules severely damages balance and roleplay:TheKai wrote:Isn't that how it is supposed to originally work? Can you tell us, please, exact CL cap for Dispel Magic and Greater Dispel Magic in this update? The current one.DM Golem wrote:Yes.
The Dispel cap is one aspect that QC are looking at closely as things play out post update. With an update this size a degree of post-update tinkering is going to be neccessary.
