With our server's future now seemingly secure, and the summer officially begun, I'd like to briefly thank a few of the people who've played key roles in getting us to where we are now. If I've forgotten someone, I deeply apologize: I am writing this off the cuff.
First, I'd like to thank
DM Golem. It's no exaggeration to say that he was essentially the server's acting admin for the lion's share of 2015, and well into 2016. Thanks for keeping the ol' ship sailing, Golem.
Second, I'd like to thank
Duster47. After months of near stagnancy, Duster was willing and able to learn the mechanics behind updating the server -- which has allowed our world to grow once more. Since the first new update in January, Duster has staged
forty-nine updates, large and small, in what averages out to about 3.5 updates
per week. You make our whole world turn, D4.
Next, I'd like to thank
Rasael, our script wizard. He put out much of the work that went into what was probably the biggest new content release we've ever had here on BG:TSCC back in March, and he's spent the last three months patiently streamlining the content and ironing out unforeseen bugs. His dedication is intense. He has also played a leading role in compiling, releasing, and updating
our wiki.
There's also no forgetting
Endelyon. Her name first hit the front page when she helped us successfully mitigate our way through a storm of DDOS attacks -- attacks that were otherwise rendering the server unplayable for many of our players. More recently, she did nearly
all of the heavy lifting, on her own, with the forum transition from bgtscc1.com to bgtscc.net, and with the server host transition to our new machine. I'd have simply been lost without her, and she's a very large part of the reason we're able to celebrate now.
Fifthly, I'd like to thank
Zanniej for his expert advice, and his many, many website enhancements. Some have been seen (like the awesome new player counter and timezone clocks), and others have been less visible (like his plans to fix our broken urls and his invaluable assistance in making sure these forums were working correctly following Endelyon's transition). Thanks for making our favorite website even better, Z!
A thank you is due as well to
LISA100595. She helped organize the NWN2 community round table that I sit at with admins from several other popular NWN2 servers. It's been helpful to brainstorm with them, and they have offered invaluable advice that's directly assisted BG:TSCC. I'm hoping still more admins join in the future, as our wider community grows more and more cooperative.
I'd also like to thank
Steve for his frequent, unfailing support of the server, and his public efforts to generate interest in BG:TSCC, as well as
Aspect of Sorrow for his unending stream of good advice and great ideas.
Finally, thanks to
DM Narshe and
DM Dialectic for their work so far, and for the work they'll be taking on moving forward as we try to further grow the DM team.
While there are many other individuals I should thank, and will thank in weeks and months to come, I grow long-winded as is. A few groups are also due my thanks, though, before I conclude.
The
DM team, of course, is owed a great deal of thanks. It's a hard job, and they're undermanned right now, but they constantly impress me with their dedication to the players and their willingness to sacrifice their own time and their own characters to build a more reactive world. Special shout outs to
DM Echo,
DM Galatea, and
DM Wafflehouse for being crazy active in game, and to
DM Ditto, who spends hours every day responding to players on the forums, pushing their requests, and checking back with them on behalf of the team.
The
QC Team, as well, deserves thanks. They toil in the shadows, but you know all of those bugs you report? The exploits? They log and test each and every one, and work with the devs to fix them. They also test new content before it's released to try and help ensure that everything works as well as it can, that new maps or monsters are not too challenging (or too easy), and that the content players get served up is fun and exciting. On top of it all, their mountains of mechanical knowledge is invaluable to players asking questions about the server's mechanics and custom content. So thanks QC!
Our
Development Team also deserves a hearty nod of appreciation. I'm personally
really excited about the projects
tfunke and
Cubicle are currently working on, and it takes everything I've got not to blab about them before they're ready for release!
A special mention also to our new
Forum Moderator Team as well. They're still a young group, but they're already proving useful in my eyes. And as they grow into their roles I expect only greater and greater things from them.
And finally, a thank you to our
players. You guys are the ones who bring me back to this community over and over again, even when I'd rather enjoy my retirement! Your words of support, your consistent loyalty, your positive attitudes in the face of all of our challenges, and your generous donations in financial support and time spent reporting bugs and testing the new content out, have all burned into me enormous gratitude and appreciation for each of you. You make this community feel like a family, and you make all of my efforts feel worthwhile.
With the server safe, at least for now, I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Moving forward, I expect things to slowly ease back out of panic mode, and to normalize. By the end of the summer, it is both my hope and my sincere belief that this server will be more professionalized, bigger, and better than ever before. Thanks everyone for your patience, your support, and your continued presence here. You all make the world come alive.
