Met with a freelance named Enna, apparently the green haired hin, Popos, was trying to hire someone to infiltrate our ranks in Soubar last eve. He seems to be of the belief that we'll interfere with his business dealings, or that we are a threat to him. He wasn't even on my mind til now, so, if he keeps wishing for it, it may well come true.

Sirion and I spewed things into the air. Attuned staves do not appear to be as affected by the weave's unpredictability.

Recruitment drive of Nashkel has resulted in opportunities for us for a myriad of roles, including our own baker. Quality testing will be assured by me personally. The support structure of the Vanguard increases resultant of this expansion, and will lean heavily in the coming days for ensuring that the operations aren't hindered by matters such as starvation due to unpreparedness.

Teris, Dunn, and I apologize to one another for the friction that came on the heels of Aunrae's divine intervention. Positive interaction expected going forward.

Enemies have been additionally made, sentiment of Amn against arcanists is heavily saturated even at home. Questionable duo attempting familiar tactic of baiting for arcanist aid was then followed by Alexander Marshall, Lauren, and I to roads leading northernly of Nashkel and intercepted at fire approximately twenty miles from Nashkel's bridges. Two became six, and with several more nearby, three then remained after conversation and intent of death brought to fever pitch. Lauren suffered strongly for her role though now recovers for the next tenday at the Northern Lights in Nashkel, recovered by Alexander Marshal after he and Lauren defended against the trio that threatened their lives. Armor of Lathanderite origin found was damaged and symbols of Bane replaced previously holy iconography, worn upon one of the felled, now in possession of Marshal. Caution is extremely emphasized here for any wishing for aid performed through ritual and cast.

Assassination attempt had occurred, though the details of this not immediately known. Osric lent information that the Fist is handling the ordeal.

Rain of House Vale had been identified as the purchaser of half orc Volstagg's labor, purpose not yet known. Volstagg has frequented the Roaringshore bar.

Discussion made to involve Bhor by Idris, Runa, Osric, Sehae on the reconstruction of the Inner Light structure. Financial backing may involve House Vale. No known involvement or commit from Radiant Heart who was also present.

Althalous has found himself a woolen nighty, and intends to show off thin ankles for morale.

Rhaeg has entered the Vale estate for the first time.

Lauren Seven has joined our Vanguard as a Member. Welcome her aboard as you see her and we look forward to seeing her in action in the days ahead.

~Captain Dunn
4th of Eleasis, 1358

Lauren's brother, Taran, donated five hundred large or the equivalent thereof to the Whitewood Vanguard. Be sure to thank him should you see him on the roads and this coin will be spent toward future land purchases and company operations.

~Captain Dunn
5th of Eleasis, 1358

While a training exercise was underway, setting up the future ambush plans against the magi hunters, we were interrupted by one of their scouts as well as three members of said magi hunters, who had a wounded magi in tow. They were intercepted before they could reach Amn, two of which were allowed to depart the field, but one of which was captured. The magi was freed and left to the care of Triadic Knight Gaven.

Concerning the captive, he will be questioned, but not tortured, and eventually turned over to Alexander Marshall for final judgement.

During the encounter, their scout offered to quit the field for two large. I offered her ten to come quit the field and come talk to me about a future job.

6th of Eleasis, 1358

These events actually occurred on the 5th of Eleasis, but the report is a day late.

Right after the three magi hunters were confronted in my last report, the following events took place on the stretch of Tradeway between Nashkel and Beregost. The ground shook, the sky thundered, and magical energy flared up the likes of which was reminiscent of that which occurred around the Friendly Arm Inn a month or so back.

In the center of this magical storm was a blue serpent larger then any dragon I had seen before. From the mists and maelstrom poured forth elementals comprised of various elements, white toad folk I am told are slaadi, and smaller, worm like serpents that resembled the giant one.

Several of the Vanguard, including Captain Dunn, Ranger Malakai, Member Thok, a potential recruit named Paurie, and the magi Red, along with many volunteers from the region, stood in opposition to these otherworldly horrors.

Several waves set out of the storm and each time the defenders were battered and pushed back. Though, after a brief distance any of the would be attackers melted, dissipated, or otherwise faded away. No substantial harm was caused to the Tradeway, no harm to Nashkel, and no harm to Beregost. Most wounds suffered were superficial and were healed via our limited means.

And as wild and random as the serpent appeared, it disappeared again for reasons unknown, possibly another random event of this ongoing calamity. There is some speculation that Red's use of magic brought it about, when she tried to burn a necromancer's spellbook, but it would be early to blame her, and it was clearly not her intent either.

~Captain Dunn
7th of Eleasis, 1358

By the efforts of our former Vanguard, Maevyn, a gathering of magi took place which was meant to be a fake meeting of magi, to draw out very real magi hunters operating in the area.

Due to a logistical miscalculation, where pamphlets were distributed within the Gate, actual magi showed up. But these were, by and large, very egotistical and foul magi, using summoned devils and undead as minions which they proudly brought in tow. Included in these cabal magi were at least one Bhaalist and one servant of Bane.

While no actual hunters were drawn out, and thus, the quarry is still at large, I am happy to write that several of these foul magi were put down and killed in a fiery battle of magic, undead hordes, and reckless casters.

We suffered only superficial injury and the day was a victory for the Vanguard, its benefactor Maevyn, and our allies in the Church of the Triad. Members of the Bladestone did assist in the job, as well as other groups. Notably, the Bladestone Foundation took umbrage to our attacking of the obviously wicked folk and left the field after, with a few 'rescued' magi in tow.

~Captain Dunn

The job was paid for in full by Maevyn to the sum of twenty-five large.
13th of Eleasis, 1358

The job assisting the Bladestone Foundation against the northern orcs is complete. Derik Ranloss has been billed one hundred and fifty large for the assistance of seven Vanguard, which includes many minor injuries and at least two with major injuries. Thok's right arm was dislocated and may have internal tearing, and Vilchi lost two fingers in the conflict.

Until it is paid in full the Vanguard will hold off on future Bladestone Foundation works.

Because Derik is waiting on funds from Duke Belt, all Vanguard involved in the job will be paid out of the company's coffers soon as the Captain hunts you down, at the tune of fifteen large each.

~Captain Dunn
20th of Eleasis, 1358

Member Lauren is hereby promoted to Ranger, with all the responsibilities and access to the ledgers that this brings. Congratulations and we say thank you for your hard work.

Maraav intends to remain an ally of the Vanguard and we wish him nothing but the best as he moves onward to other ventures. He will still offer his counsel, magick, and company to any of us as we need and we wish him well as he pursues his own endeavors.

~Captain Dunn
And so ends the last of the company wide ledgers of the Whitewood Vanguard. Letters, bounties, and other ledgers remain to add to this novel, but this was the very last report penned by any member of the Vanguard to the company at large.

A collection of self notes concerning individuals or organizations during the time of the Whitewood Vanguard, understand that these notes were never complete, and applied to knowledge I had, though not in full, and should be read as cliff notes of the 1357-1358 era.
The Elder Circle

-Currently lead by Archdruid Emmanuel, individually, unknown what his stance is on the Zhentarim, if any.
-The Elder Circle as a whole must maintain a neutral stance focused on maintaining the balance and health of nature and the region at large.
-Likely to provide aid or succor in events that endanger or harm the wilds on a more than typical scale, unlikely to take any side in a fight against the Zhentarim in current standings.
The Radiant Heart

-Currently lead by Aaron Lyonaller, devout paladin of the Red Knight. Currently his focus in this conflict is one sought through diplomacy, and changing the Duke's stance on the Zhentarim with the gate.
-The Radiant Heart's members are bound to follow their leader, that said, the Zhentarim are also their most visible foes. Unknown how individuals may react in a battle, between joining in on the side against the Zhentarim, or abstaining.
-Current ties to the Radiant Heart are weak. Aaron is content to not have us 'sit at the table' in dealings, and our only real contact is Captain Boots, their scoutmaster.
House Darius

-Relations have improved considerably with the advent of Nathan Goldenmane, the Mercy Blade, taking head of this House.
-Their absent blood of house, Lord Luke Darius, is just shy of hostile to Captain Dunn. If he sees an opportunity for sabotage, politically or otherwise, he is liable to take it. Though he is not currently an active force in the region.
-Current resources include the Lewd Lyre, financial assistance, and other ends.
Candlekeep

-Neutral party, won't render aid or hinder.
-Excellent source of history in the region.
House Vale

-Led by the now returned founder, Osric Vale.
-They remained allied with the Gate, and thus, neutral to the Zhentarim.
-Their stance toward our Vanguard is neutral, they will aid us in matters that don't threaten their position with the Gate.
-They are strong allies with House Darius, this may affect dealings.
-Little is known of this House's current activities, and it may be on the decline.
-They are chiefly concerned with finding sources of food, currently.
-They own a partial interest in a stone quarry (structure type stone/hard stone)
House Blackrose

-Publicly led by Ser Amos, who executed the former head Amelia Blackrose.
-CAUTION! Suspected ties to the Zhentarim, may soon become open hostilities with our Vanguard.
-Potential source of jobs and income through small to large jobs including defending Thundar's Ride area.
The Hellriders, Elturel

-Lead by High Rider Lord Dhelt. Regional Commander of Triel is Captain Vanders
-Currently we're in a loose alliance with their efforts, and have obtained writs of passage to and from their holding in Triel.
Individual: Pyotr

-Martial fighter of great strength, and tempered wisdom.
-Cautious by nature, he has no current interest in joining any open conflict.
-He has pledged his aid if a worthy, certain or credible target is located. Remember his offer and use judiciously.
Kraak Helzaak

-Current point of contact is Bhor Stonecutter.
-Current wants are exotic foodstuffs, and horse meat, to feed their growing gryphon cavalry.
-Currently has means of producing adamantine goods.
The Order of the Silver Rose

-Current point of contact is their leader, Knight Commander Veslana Raven
-Currently agreed to enter into direct conflict with the Zhentarim.
-Possibility of joint operations exist, but remember they are an honorable, knightly order. A lighter version of the Radiant Heart.
-Tristan will be the point of contact with the Silver Rose, and will have limited access to their grounds.
The Lord's Alliance, Jon Smythe

-Independent agent of the Lord's Alliance, and owner of the Chionthar Charter and Seaward Supply Company.
-Will supply us with future work guarding caravans.
-If/When his people locate Zhentarim activity, trade caravans, patrols, fog hidden forts, etc. The agreement is to have an exchange of information. Plan that any of our information provided is delayed in nature to protect our operations.
Individual: Hanner Blackrose

-I believe he is a brother of the late Amelia or Morgan Blackrose. Former member of House Blackrose but is currently exiled from their service.
-In the past has been caught spying on Whitewood Vanguard. Was sighted on the 5th of Uktar, 1357, trailing Traegan.
a. In the ensuing conversation with Traegan, admitted to fighting the forces of the Gate on the side of Batibat.
-Consider dangerous and not to be trusted. Accomplished shadow and suspected assassin.
Individual: Laya Jyne

-Half elf of Doron Amar, martial combatant.
-Wishes to be considered an ally in our movements against Zhentarim.
-When an extra sword is needed in conflict with the Zhentarim, feel free to contact her if available.
Individual: Kelly Massey

-Offering healing to any wounded Vanguard. Has said she'll do so for free but I expect some manner of repayment if services are rendered.
-Operates alongside the Ilmater orphanage but may be willing to relocate to Nashkel during this troll mess.
The Halls of Inner Light

-Lead by Alyssia Leonhart, cousin of Ronja Leonhart.
-They're on their own. I won't help them any longer. ~Dunn
Rocky Creek Trading Company

Primary trade routes/items:
-Baldur's Gate: Dyes, fish, lamp oil
-Greenest: Grain, Produce, Meat, Cheese
-Berdusk: Wool and Clothing
-Iriaebor: Lumber, Beer
-Elturel: Leather goods, secondary food source - meat/cheese
-Horses are a more recent thing, with contacts in Berdusk/Asbravn.
House of Spades

-Trade with drow
-Specifically, traded with drow for purple crystals that emit light, they reportedly contain living souls trapped within.
Individual: Destin

-Recently involved himself in the whole mess with Kethelis and the drow Aunrae, when he asked if we were actively hunting Kethelis (the implication that we were also actively hunting Aunrae.
-Unsure at this time why he got involved, likely because of whatever demon is in the drow's belly.

A collection of notes and messages, large and small, for internal Vanguard issues.
Missive is sent to arrive to each requesting that they summarize five specialties and competencies they can fulfill, ranked by most practiced to least. Answers to be provided to Mizzrym , Michael Dunn , or Tristan when able. ~Mizzrym.
Vanguards When Dunn is otherwise detained or unavailable, leadership falls to Mizzrym or Tristan. If none of the three are available - you're grown men and women and I trust you. Just try not to bring more trouble on the company than you can get us back out of again.
A missive reaches the Captain and his seconds. I heard a rumor that the current Dreadlord, Selengil Harkonis, has managed to unite the northern factions, ostensibly under pain of death. If there is a grain of truth to this information floating around, then they're keeping quiet about it. -Ko're
A note is added to this missive and dispersed amongst Vanguards Cease communication with House Blackrose, in the event they're included here. I will write him to decline the potential job and thus prevent any threat of harm or ambush. Travel in groups no smaller then pairs anywhere north of Thundar's Ride, or east of the same.
Missive is left with Ko're and Aurelien.

"Please source identities of those knowing of these details, and if safely able to, procure more information on it, ten bags for details leading to confirmation. Fourty for full accuracy of the list of all involved."
The poor messenger boy returned shortly, huffing and puffing as he handed over a reply. I heard the rumor from my other employer, High Lady Alyssia Leonhart of the Halls of Inner Light. She admitted it was possibly just a rumor, but worth further investigation. I will Send to her shortly, when next she is back from Waterdeep. I suppose the easiest way to clear this up is by simply asking Amos directly, but who can say if anyone involved will answer truthfully? My old contacts in the Blackrose faction have long since left the Coast, but I will do some digging. -Ko're
Vanguards Another frickin' missive via carrier pigeon. As some of you may be aware, the political stability of Baldur's Gate is on questionable grounds currently. About a tenday ago, I heard a commotion by the ducal palace and it was a demonstration of the city's disgruntled citizens demanding audience with the dukes about the undead infestation in the sewers, the treaty with the Zhentarim, the recent famine that struck the surrounding farms, and the general inequity. Flaming Fist personnel guarded the entrance. Alyssia Leonhart and Alexander Holgart managed to talk down the angry crowd and they eventually dispersed, but this won't be the last we see of the issue. Alyssia offered to hear the grievances and problems of the people, and bring them forward to the dukes as their representative. Rhaeg the old half-orc and Bob Thairo the aging dark-knight were present and attempting to stoke the flames, I suspect for different reasons. Lord Fenix Wandersoul appeared to think the situation was a joke when he showed up.

It gets more interesting. After the crowd dispersed, there were reports about the Fist arresting people who attempted to perform a ritual sacrifice within the city to appease the Lord of Murder. A man named Rennek is the ringleader, still at large, is seducing the 'little people' of the docks and warehouses to his cause. Aurelien and I are following up on that lead. -Ko're

Addendum: Ashenie of the Ilmaterite temple was also present and attempting to calm the mob.

Archer sorts, I have a few bundles of arrows for you. One has to go to Michael as it was given by someone else to pass to him. The other two are for whoever wants to look at them. Find me if I do not find you.

-T
A courier finds the hands of Olesya and Mizzrym handing them a note

As soon as you are available I would like to speak with you.

-T
Urfindir the drow was a menace about a year ago. He would come up to the surface, prey on travelers in the north, then scurry back down to the Underdark tunnels.

He wore an eye patch, and fought with a sword and shield, with an ability to send his enemies fleeing in terror. This information is almost a year old, it's possible that he's trained in other skillsets during the time he went dark.

Now he's returned. Exercise caution when traveling in the North.

-Ko're
Annarah [White Rose] is interested in the Vanguard, I gave her a general idea but I left the more interesting details to you.

-T
"Assembling at Ilmater's temple for a job into the Undercity for those that wish to participate. This is occurring now."
Flint came up in conversation at the Lyre, seems he's a previous lover of Carah and was dropping that he is part of the Black Network at the Campfire recently. This I had noted on the Eleventh of Uktar.

-T
Alyssia Leonhart of the Halls of Inner Light has tasked us with protecting trade to and from Baldur's Gate, as we are able, on the roads of the Tradeway. If we come across caravans that are not affiliated with the Zhentarim, they are to be left alone, guarded or escorted, or otherwise seen along the way to their points of destination.

This does not apply to Zhentarim caravans, and there is keen interest on determining their future paths of travel.

In exchange, we now have temporary lodging. We're allowed access to the Hall of Inner Light's guardian barracks, training room, map room, and guardian bathes. To gain access, Dunn will have to escort you to the right area.

CAUTION! Entry to the following will get us reprimanded, or the privilege revoked. The Divination room, their offices. The Sacred baths at the back of the chapel.

To locate the barracks, enter the Halls, go left, to the locked door. Continue straight through until you see a very, very, very blue room. Thats our temporary barracks. Further still you'll reach the bathes we can use.

CAUTION! Do not speak of this in public, use discretion and becareful coming and going from the Halls of Inner Light. We do not want to draw our heat upon them or give them any trouble. They're doing us a huge favor and trust in this.
Information about Nalissa Cold's current circle or group affiliations. This person of interest is widely known to be nervous, jittery, easily scared, easily coerced, easily traumatized. She has been seen in north lately, notably frequenting the Winding Way Tavern. Stands to reason she may have fallen in with bad apples.

Leads: Nalissa is formerly and perhaps presently in House Divine; Nalissa is formerly and perhaps presently serving at Candlekeep; Nalissa is formerly and perhaps presently the lover of Ytarya, leader of Anachaine Circle; Nalissa is the former lover of Teris the fire genasi druid.

Description: Bright blue skin, white hot hair, speaks with a stammer.

ADDENDUM: Per Derien asking Nalissa directly, she still works with House Divine as a designer.

Answering the call for the bounty about Nalissa, Olesya would send the following to @Deleted User :

Nalissa is one annoying Fire Genasi from Thay, she looks like a skilled transmuter and able craftswoman as she walks around with a small constructor of her own. She is part of house divine and possibly Phoenix Company as well, she seem to be a close ally of the elf known as Netanya and can usually be seen around her company. She also claims that her father have close dealings in the City of Embers and this may be the reasons for her heritage, possibly her mother was an efreet from there. She strongly dislikes anything related to the red wizards and hates her parents.

As a more personal note: She is hard to work with and complains about anyone using spells targeting the minds of the enemy.

A report was left for the Vanguard by Syndreth in the Halls. After rolling up the scroll and placing it where it should be left, the elf took her time to go through all the other reports that were available to all of the members.
---
Based on information gathered by a Radian Heart scout, the Dreadlord of the Zhentarim and the witch named Tarina was seen in the underdark hiring a drow female for unknown purposes. The orc was seen in their company, it is highly possible that he collaborates with the Zhentarim now.
Vanguards

Our invitation to the Halls of Inner Light has been rescinded, and our key has been returned. Hold no ill will to Alyssia Leonhart, she has to look out for the interests of her Halls and her beliefs.
notes are left behind in places people familiar with them can find them up and down the coast, letting everyone knows that Mouse is fine, and happy
Sergeant, please reach out to and record a last will and testament on behalf of each of the Vanguard. I have Traegan's and will deliver it to you promptly, but the threats grow and while the end of the road is what we fight against, better prepared with a plan then to leave it strictly to the wind.

~Dunn
Look for a Kel, Dwarf. Met hi in reaching might be open to joining us not sure, did not get to chat much.
"Ran into some uppity lady in the farmlands asking about the Vanguard. Her name is Deselara. I told 'er I'd pass 'er name on to you and the rest. Good luck."
"Pretty sure she's Phoenix Company, but I'll keep an eye out for her. Definitely met her at some time or other - I say thank you for the heads up."

He replies to Traegan.

The following are documents (and some cases just posts) concerning the early parts of our campaign in the Cloudpeak mountains against the troll horde, the Salamander Cult, and the lich leading them.

Vanguards Cala Claymore is a person leaving notes looking for help. She is in need of a fighter type to assist in the recovery of items stolen from her family. Pay is 2k plus consumables used to be invoiced afterwards. She only needs one fighter type and will meet them in Nashkel tomorrow at around 5pm EST near the river. She is a blond woman with plain clothes, green dress when I saw her. I plan on meeting her tomorrow unless someone else is lookin for that coin.
Ranger Traegan is putting out a letter to the Dukes to appeal his sentence and/or ask about a path to redemption. He still needs your accounts from the eve that he protected that lady and put down the pox faced harasser. He means to send it out in two days, if you folks get a moment to write up your account of what came to pass.

Vanguards *"I've sent the letter to the Dukes to ask for a pardon. I say thank you to Captain Dunn and Tristan. You answered my plea when I needed help. This I won't forget. To those that were there and did not... Remember these words, Pray to your Gods that you never need my help. If you do, you will be found wanting."
"I spoke with Derik Ranloss, I believe you know the man. He told me he would be willing to discuss with you about renting the Warrior's Rest for the Vanguard, since he and his associates will not be around enough to take proper care of the place. He was reluctant at first, since as he said, you two "have a history"... but I think it would worth for you to consider it at least. Derik even tried to sell the establishment to someone not so long ago. As I see it, the Rest is a perfectly equipped and designed place for a company such as the one you have."
Rather late though, but a reply arrives to Michael's sending "I apologize, we had our hands full in the last few candlemarks. But we reached the village. Everything silent for now. We may need to talk if this is over since I feel I'm missing some points regarding recent events..."
Syn submits a rather quick report
"We found a masked man in a ruined temple near the village, burning bodies. After a tense discussion, Carah managed to persuade the man not to continue his bloody quest of retribution, but before she could truly help him, the man just crumbled into dust. Before that, he told us that "the others" of his group will meet in three days time, and the trolls will attack the northern and north-eastern villages at that time.
A more detailed report will be submitted soon"
*Morgalia leaves a small note concerning the contracts to protect the villages: "Don't forget Beregost has a merchant that sells something called a Sustaining Spoon. Tastes horribly, but can keep someone fed indefinetly."
