Though tensions in the city seem to
die down a little, at long last, this does not come without a heavy cost.
Many of those who had sought to capture the spy Petra in Seatower disappeared along with her, to parts unknown. Though they would quickly return, bearing no obvious injury, it is clear that their mission has failed somehow. What remains unclear - despite their best efforts - is how they have returned
at all.
The Militia "officer" who secretly organized the attempted arrest of their former quartermaster, now resting in the Temple of Mystra, isn't too shy, anymore, about sharing what she knows and suspects. Many of her suspicions have thus far been proven correct, though perhaps some she has not seen for herself yet:
That Petra is a succubus sent to sow discord in the city, amplifying the existing hostilities between the Lower and Upper City.
That the strange deaths and disappearances, and perhaps many more things in recent months, have been her doing. Perhaps even the foolish crimes of Cory Strong, for his elder brother Robb had seemed closer, and more vulnerable, to the succubus' schemes than most. Thus kept under her influence, who is to say how much of the brothers' folly was truly their own?
That the Dukes were not so oblivious to public sentiment, nor so deaf to the notion of justice, as to allow Felix Fassaway and his mysterious backers to get away scot-free.
But although the veil of secrecy is lifted, and the outcome not nearly as dire as she'd feared, it seems to bring the young redhead little comfort. The trio that tried to wrestle Petra to the ground were taken away with her, marked for some sinister purpose not yet understood, and sent back. Though the Mystrans slowly relax the initial restrictions upon their movement, Virin remains mostly confined to the temple of her own accord, strangely listless and moody, yet unable to find any satisfactory explanation for this newfound lethargy.
What strange spell have they been placed under now? And how, if at all, will they escape its power?
