Though tensions in the city seem to die down a little, at long last, this does not come without a heavy cost.

Many of those who had sought to capture the spy Petra in Seatower disappeared along with her, to parts unknown. Though they would quickly return, bearing no obvious injury, it is clear that their mission has failed somehow. What remains unclear - despite their best efforts - is how they have returned at all.

The Militia "officer" who secretly organized the attempted arrest of their former quartermaster, now resting in the Temple of Mystra, isn't too shy, anymore, about sharing what she knows and suspects. Many of her suspicions have thus far been proven correct, though perhaps some she has not seen for herself yet:

That Petra is a succubus sent to sow discord in the city, amplifying the existing hostilities between the Lower and Upper City.

That the strange deaths and disappearances, and perhaps many more things in recent months, have been her doing. Perhaps even the foolish crimes of Cory Strong, for his elder brother Robb had seemed closer, and more vulnerable, to the succubus' schemes than most. Thus kept under her influence, who is to say how much of the brothers' folly was truly their own?

That the Dukes were not so oblivious to public sentiment, nor so deaf to the notion of justice, as to allow Felix Fassaway and his mysterious backers to get away scot-free.

But although the veil of secrecy is lifted, and the outcome not nearly as dire as she'd feared, it seems to bring the young redhead little comfort. The trio that tried to wrestle Petra to the ground were taken away with her, marked for some sinister purpose not yet understood, and sent back. Though the Mystrans slowly relax the initial restrictions upon their movement, Virin remains mostly confined to the temple of her own accord, strangely listless and moody, yet unable to find any satisfactory explanation for this newfound lethargy.

What strange spell have they been placed under now? And how, if at all, will they escape its power?

Maevyn moved through the snow-dappled streets of Baldur’s Gate, her slender frame wrapped in a shimmering cloak tightly clasped around shoulders. The city seemed to exhale grief with every breath that left a trail in through air. The crisp wind carried the faint tang of ash and salt, leaving a bad taste in her mouth.

She paused at a quiet corner where the snow had settled undisturbed, pinning a flier to a weathered post. Her fingers lingered on the edges, the cold biting at her skin through thin gloves, as subtle smile peeked from beneath her cowl.

The commoners shuffled past her, faces etched with loss, their footsteps seeming heavy against the cobblestones. She moved with quiet determination, her eyes bright with hope, greeting strangers with a soft, encouraging smile as she hung each flier throughout the gate.

"Come," she whispered under her breath, fastening another to a tavern door humming a light tune. "Let us honor their memory with light, with warmth, and with purpose. Let the city gather, not in sorrow, but in unity."

1361 Winter Solstice Gala: Everwinter Estate, Baldur's Gate

Image
House Divine and the White Mask Theater hosted the Winter Solstice Gala on the 18th of Hammer 1361 to commemorate the arrival of Winter. The Gala featured the début performance of Kiss of Winter, the timeless play in which a succubus exacts her revenge on the poor romance choices of the heroine, once again leaving the Matron’s precious ballroom floors a bloody mess.
Kiss of Winter: Cast and Credits
Cast:
Madam Ashley Gloomraven as Sivara Snowveil
Mr. Zachary Tender as Zach the Champ
Madam Rose Wintertal as Delilah Moonspire/Vengeful Succubus
Madam Oona Siofra as Narrator
Produced by the White Mask Theater

In addition to dinner and a show patrons were treated to lively music and dancing. It’s rumored one renowned druid of advanced age overexerted himself nearly meeting his death which would have likely been preferable to dying a slow painful death as the result of a debilitating chronic condition.

Mr. Zachary Tender redeemed himself in the eyes of House Divine Barmaid Andarielle Coldsilver, who had lusted over him since rehearsals. After slighting her early advances to remain in character during the performance he reproached her afterwards and offered to dance with her to which she happily and gleefully obliged. Good thing since she was probably on the verge of silting his throat after initially feeling dejected and jilted.

However Anderielle’s lust was later eventually redirected to one Nathan Goldenmane before she was reminded that her display of affection towards the man could incur the wrath of a certain silver haired lunatic woman should she ever catch wind of it. Its rumored Anderielle served complimentary drinks to a certain patron in exchange for keeping news of her advances towards Nathan between the both of them.
Image

The Gala was attended by a Gondsman accompanied by his Techsmith Automaton as it scrapped its metallic feet all over the Matron’s precious floors in its attempt to dance. Fortunately the floors were able to endure the abuse leaving only a few removable scratches and marks. However its’ rumored the House automata Electra was disappointed the Techsmith Automaton didn’t offer her its hand in dance.

It is said an elderly woman approached the Everwinter Estate during the Gala seeking her son to chastise him for neglecting his chores. After word reached the Matron she, as well as others, approached the son to berate him for is continual subservience to his mother. Seriously Alan, grow a pair and get your sh*t together.
Image

House Divine and the White Mast Theater thanks all those who attended the Winter Solstice Gala, your attendance and most appreciated. No thanks to a certain attendee of the Winter faith who decided to “bless” the attendees with an blizzard towards the close of the Gala after the Matron had already taken her leave to drink under her desk.

When malicious rumors spread from the House of the Divine, accusing the young squire of neglecting chores for his elderly parents, concerned neighbours gathered to scold him. Calm but firm, the squire addressed their concerns, explaining, "I have not neglected my duties. My mother insist I not stay up late, so I can complete them in the morning, Her care, though well-meaning, seems to have been misunderstood.

They nodded in understanding, familiar with the extreme measures the squire's mother took to care for her son. Her protective nature seemed far more believable than any claim of negligence by the ever-so-his-moms-favourite pink bard, who, even after leaving The Gate to bartend at the Friendly Arms Inn, still managed to visit his parents twice a week.

Alan's neighbours scattered, satisfied with the explanation. However, a few adventurers passing by were left dumbfounded, wondering aloud why they had never once seen the young squire bartend at the Friendly Arms Inn.

The young novice of Ilmater, Carys, has been seen a few times now in the Manorborn district - wandering among the Temples, some even ventured into - namely those of the Triad, the Halls of Inner Light, and also, strangely enough, The Lady's Hall.

Were any tracking her, they would find she left a sizable donation to the Temple of Tymora for a prayer on behalf of Virin, who was currently residing in the Temple of Mystra.

In light of recent events, the Hunter's Moon and associates have decided to Postpone the Festival of Remembrance and released a statement:
“To the kind people of Baldur’s Gate,
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the postponement of the Festival of Remembrance. This sacred gathering, meant to honor those we have loved and lost, deserves to be a time of peace and reflection. Recent unforeseen circumstances have made it clear that proceeding as planned would compromise the heart of what this festival stands for.

Though the moon will wait for no one, we believe Selûne’s light will guide us to a better moment—one where we can come together without distraction or concern to celebrate life, memory, and hope. Please know this decision was not made lightly, and I deeply regret any inconvenience it may cause.

The festival will be rescheduled for a time when we can all safely gather and give our hearts fully to this cherished night of remembrance. Until then, let us each carry the spirit of the festival within us: lighting candles for those we miss, offering kindness to those in need, and finding strength in Selûne’s ever-present light.

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. Updates on the new date will be shared soon.

In Selûne’s light,
Maevyn of the Hunter's Moon Lodge”

Over the course of the past tenday, a swordsman that by now would be familiar to those within the Shrine of the Suffering could be seen there more frequently. He tends to the garden there, harvesting herbs and replanting seeds, and spends a good portion of his visits in the chapel for prayer and reflection, and of course visits with certain Sister of the cloth.

The one-eyed elf Elduril can be spotted along the streets of the city as the days grow brighter and longer amid winter's failing grasp. He makes his way to each of the temples of the Triad, his typical dark armor and cloak swapped for lighter shades of grey, the edges of the cloak lined with a deep, dark red. He prays at each altar before exploring the halls, reading the histories collected therein, and inquiring with the clergy about the various figures displayed in reverence of their service. Before leaving each temple, he makes sure to leave donations: Clothes and medicinal herbs for the Shrine of the Suffering, arms and armor of varying magical power at the temples of Tyr and Torm, and tithes of gold for all three.

A newcomer has been seen in Baldur’s Gate, identified as Dayne Silverwake, a devotee to Selûne. He has been observed traveling through the city, visiting key locations such as the Wide, the Eastway District, and the docks in tow behind a fiendish woman.

Rather ragged looking, he is quick to approach passer-bys and speak about 'The Path' and 'She Who Guides'. He carries no weapons or armor, and makes it a point to avoid either touching his hands. He has been observed visiting shrines and speaking with local clergy. Thus far, he has not made any public declarations or sought official recognition, leading to speculation about whether he is here for personal reasons or acting on behalf of Selûnite interests. He does, however, makes constant questions about the location of any local temples and followers of Selûne.

For now, it is recommend to give the assumed Lunatic a wide berth.

16 Alturiak 1361 DR

Within the past couple of tendays, the streets of Baldur's Gate were trod more frequently by the swordsman Elduril, particularly those of Heapside and the Temple District. Across that same span of time, the once darkly-clad warrior had donned lighter garments, ditching the black gambeson and trousers for a lighter shade of grey and swapping out the billowing black cloak for a grey one lined with dark red. Even his mood had become less gloomy, as if the perpetual curtain of dark clouds and roiling seas within him had passed and calmed.

Though often on duty during his travels along the common thoroughfares between each temple of the Triad, he would spare a moment whenever possible to lend his aid to the citizens of the city, deeming nothing too small or indignifying so long as his time meant easing the burdens, toils, and suffering of those he encountered. The most recent of these days, however, had been spent more often at the Shrine of the Suffering to help stand watch in relief of the other posted sentinels, and to assist the infirmed along with the resident brothers and sisters of the faith with any tasks that needed doing.

Since their capture and release by the succubus known to them only as Militia Quartermaster Petra, the odd band of impromptu demon hunters sequestered in the Temple of Mystra have not all had an easy time of coping with their voluntary captivity, nor overcoming the effects, magical and mundane alike, of their clash with the demonic spy.

Some fared better than others. The monk Nico, a recent addition to the Commons Militia, was quickly found to have been shielded from Petra's magic by his monastic training, and could soon be found going about his usual business again. True to his elven heritage, the Archon of the Myradon Vindicators was able to appreciate his dream while still recognizing its falsehood, and when the time came to break Petra's curse in the beginning of Alturiak, he easily overcame its last desperate attack on his soul.

But the young woman who set this all in motion would be less easily freed from the demon's influence. Though to this day she has volunteered little clear information about the vision she was given, Virin has been entirely willing to point out it needed no magical backing to shake her to the core, and it was perhaps because of this that the ritual to break the curse had to be performed a second time in order to finally excise the abyssal energies bound to her spirit.

It was certainly because of this that her newfound freedom brought her little comfort, and that most found her just as miserable and/or angry at the crossroads campfire in the Outer City as they would have found her at the benches inside the Mystran temple. Yet there were moments when she seemed to reclaim some of her lost cheer, if only for a short time. When, despite her reluctance to explain her ongoing distress, those around her managed to relieve it regardless.

And just over a month after her ordeal began, Virin seems to have finally found some way to anchor herself. She is not fully healed; to an outside observer, it may be difficult to imagine that she ever will. But she seems alive again - no longer just a grim shade of her past self - and ready to confront the challenges the future may bring...

The Lower City of Baldur's would see less shady sort of characters around the many alleys and darken streets from parts of the Eastway, the Steeps and Heaps. Yet their would be an increased presence of particular members consisting of "muscles, mages, and even elites " left near the docks of said parts of the city and all the known or unknown establishments and businesses' under The Guild's protection. However such establishments and businesses were not interrupted in their normal daily activities. Such added protections would also include the Harbormaster, a particular family House, temples such as the Water Queen House and the Temple of Ilmater, the Orphanage and the shrine of Mask.

Guild members were ordered not speak to anyone nor reveal why the increase of protection. All other known Guild members were ordered to fortify the "Home" as well as all "Outposts" by extra magical and mundane means that were not used already.

It would be obvious that something had finally,
unsettled The Guild.

An common sight on the streets of the Lower City, Sister Carys, the new novitiate of Ilmater, was seen entering the Blushing Mermaid, and speaking with the bartender quietly. She did not stay long, thereafter notifying a few sailors their captain was looking for them, before she went on her way.
