Interesting... I agree this is good dramatic stuff for roleplaying a warlock, lots of room for character development by simply not wanting to go to hell. I assume with a decent lore skill a warlock would have knowledge of his fate, or would it require research to figure this out?

Devils and demons would likely try to make the warlock think that he is getting the better end of the deal, when the reality is that he is definitely not. They would likely attempt to avoid mentioning the warlock's ultimate fate or at least present it in a manner that portrays it in a much more positive light than it actually is. Be that as it may, I would think that most warlocks would possess at least a general idea of their fate... unless they lack more than their average less-than-normal-good-sense. ;)

MasterSilke's thoughts on the subject are very worth of note, in my opinion. He played one of the most in depth warlocks I've seen on the server in almost three years. Other than my notes before, I'll bow to his obvious expertise :D

On the question about the Red Knight, I was reading some 2nd ed stuff the other day. She is much like Torm atm, a Demi power and subservient to Tempus. She does, however, exist, and is somewhat active if not well known.

Quite often souls are taken to serve as fuel for the Blood Wards; this is also the fate of souls stolen from the Wall of the Faithless in the Fugue Plane, and other souls bartered out of that realm.

Typically they become petitioners, manes and dretches. Sometimes a powerful soul will be given a higher 'starting position', though there's a sort of hierarchy and dance that goes on. A few books describe this more fully.

I imagine a warlock is usually told they'll get to fight in the Blood War, "room for advancement", and whatever other lie needs to be told to get them to agree. After that, they're almost certainly snagged and made into a lowly dretch - after all, if they promise you'll get to become a balor, they aren't required to say when.

If the warlock was "free of the pact" then they would have no power. Pretty much, if you have a warlock ability, someone/thing else is giving you the juice for it. They will come collecting one day.
Unless you'r blackmailing what gives you the power.

Keep in mind that its said worshiping good gods can fight off warlock corruption, perhaps with enough worship you can get a chance at saving your soul.

I got a question about the Warlock pacts.

Can a person be forced into forming a pact in some way?

Example: A very devious man forces a good person to form a contract with a devil for his twisted pleasure (by for example using his family as leverage), is this possible?

I believe you can be forced into taking up a contract by using leverage, but you can't compel someone into doing it by for instance casting Dominate Person or the like.

You have to be willing to make the pact. If you're willing because you're scared for your family's safety then you're still willing ;)

If a warlock does ever get free of his/her pact however, whether it's by divine intervention or happenstance (both options highly unlikely I imagine), won't they basically end up with what translates into a fighter with medium BAB and no bonus feats?

That is a good question. :D Is the answer no? I'm a Forgotten Realms noob.
I'll answer this before it is completely buried, muffin.

Helm does indeed support paladins, and has several knightly orders.

You are right, the answer to The Red Knight being around is no. She does eventually support paladins, but not for another 12 years in our timeline, as she ascended to demigod status after the ToT, in which she was leading her Company of the Red Falcon all over Tethyr (The Grand History of the Realms, page 143). So I guess she is technically around, but just not a deity.

Hi, can anyone well-versed in lore help me out on the "duels" topic?

I've had quite a few IC and OOC debates on the matter and I want to know what the Lore powered guys think...

Aren't duels in general supposed to be the ultimate way of settling disputes on any matter? And Fists aren't supposed to interfere and rather promote such a thing as it, by its very concept, eliminates any... claims (I guess, that's the word) from the unsatisfied side?

Unlawful Dueling Resulting in Death
Listed as a crime in Laws of the Land

So I assume that if the Fist arrange a duel for you against an advisary it would be valid, or if you do it in the depths of the Cloakwood (or any other place out of their juristriction). But resorting to duels without being sponsored by the authorities is a crime.

The law says 'Unlawful Dueling Resulting in Death'. So Ithilan is correct: there are occasions where the legitimate authority will sanction a duel - although it will likely be 'first to draw blood' or 'knock out opponent'. Duels without permission should not be attempted in lands controlled by the Dukes (especially Baldur's Gate and Tradeway). Duels in the wilds are more or less free game, within the PvP rules.

Alright, so this is for all of you Drow-junkies, more specifically for those who know about the Jaezred Chaulssin.

I'm currently in the process of flushing out my new character's biography, and having brushed across them while looking for a birth city for my guy I immediatly became hooked that my guy should have something to do with them.

And I know in general it's bad to make a build and then make the history of him, but... Well I forgot. Boo me. I'll paste what I have so far for his biograhy:
Dur’ssysn was born and raised in the Drow metropolis known as Eryndlyn on the Vhaerunite-dominated northeastern plateau to a minor house. This minor house was one of many that were founded after the abandonment of Chaulssin some 1000 years ago by the remaining dragon-blooded sorcerers and assassins. Being raised in the Vhaerunite part of the city gave him a strong hatred towards all Lolthites. Que’llar Baen’neld, while a small house and of no significant power or influence in Eryndlyn, did not forget their common kinship. Despite the fact that they were scattered in many new homes, the various houses of Jaezred Chaulssin still considered themselves one house, the ruling Que’llar Chaulssin. As Dur’ssysn grew older, he discovered his initial arcane ability. Seeing how the Patron Father....
And that's where I'm at and I'm sort of stuck, being that I know absolutely nothing about Drow houses and society (This is my first drow ever. And he's my first sorcerer ever. So a lot of questions come with it). Basically, does anyone know anything about Drow houses, and more specifically would the house's structure/hierarchy be changed because the house is a Vhaerun worshipping house? (I only ask because they have such a strong hatred for Lolth, and so mainly is would it still be a matriarchal house or would it be patriarchal?)

Also any info on how the structure of Jaezred Chaulssin would be great. My character's last name is Baen'neld, and so essentially would the house take up a different name or would it have the name of Jaezred?

I did A LOT of researching but nothing has proved too helpful.

EDIT: Okay, I just found this little bit of how the houses are.
The patron fathers of the Jaezred Chaulssin agreed to establish
fosterages in the guise of minor noble houses in seven drow cities
ruled by the Spider Queen’s followers: Ched Nasad, Eryndlyn,
Karsoluthiyl, Jhachalkhyn, Maerimydra, Menzoberranzan, and
Sschindylryn
So my character would not even come from a house, but rather a fosterage?

Just found this:
The Jaezred fosterage is known to the inhabitants of Karsoluthiyl as
the well-fortified tower of House Oussghym, a minor noble house in
the city’s political structure, whose coffers have grown wealthy
through their very successful mercantile activities.
So this answers my question about having different house names and where he would've come from.

And to top it all off here is the 3rd bit of information on Jaezred Chaulssin:
Unlike most drow Houses, the Jaezred Chaulssin are fiercely patriarchal. The master of each city's secret House is known as a Patron Father, and the grandmaster of the entire order is the Revered Grandfather.
