Re: TIPs to Swearing in the FR setting
I am curious about a few words, actually - borderline words, perhaps, and some certainly worse than others. Are any of these appropriate for use in the server?
Arse
Hells
Bloody
Bollocks
Bugger
Feck
Tosser
Twat
Wanker
Bastard is another that I am curious about, not necessarily as an insult but rather used in its original lexical role to denote somebody of illegitimate birth.

What about telling someone to "pike off"? I've seen "pike" used in varying ways to cuss on several servers.
There are no level 30's, only level 20's with benefits...

A pit fiend in Cania in NWN1 would tell people to "pike off" as well, I think.

"You smell like a bunch of flowers died." (Insult toward masculinity, or that a female uses cheap perfume)

Just some uses :
"By the gods above and the fiends below, you've put me under the dragon's toe by blabbering witless hogwash you bloody rotter of a pixie licker... Go kiss a troll, orc snack."
- When an elf scams you, pranks you or things along this line
"Bloody hells be tis weather, S'pecially by 'tis overbreeder longshank who smells worse than a halfling's armpit"
- When it rains with no end, and you stand around a human druid/barbarian as a dwarf.

Re: TIPs to Swearing in the FR setting
Well, my duergar uses "regular" swear words, though in ways that are "rounded off", or euphemistic:
"bloody hells"
"can't use dese fricken scrolls"
"arse"
Not the exact modern day swear words, of course, I know it would sound both bad and out of place.
A duergar NPC in Shamath says "bugger off" and you may reply (which I always do) "May you rot in the hells". I also think, with regard to the very uncharismatic, egoistic and thorny personality of the Duergar, that use of "stronger" swear words should be OK, as long as you don't sound like a gangster rapper

Re: TIPs to Swearing in the FR setting
This isn't exactly in line with swearing so much as insulting.
Given the recent rash of names such as butt-head and other less kind, or more foul, or more modern misnomers, I thought I would post this for others to draw inspiration from.
Now, you needn't go into thee and thou and so forth... Nor do you need to use one from each column, or for that matter only as few as three. Be creative and put them together how you see fit. How RP allows. Instant horrible name calling without resorting to 'swears' and other insulting bits that might not fit the setting. Mind you not all of these will be appropriate all the time... and you can't put some together meaningfully with others.
However, I've often considered it an RP challenge to use this sheet at least once in RP career next time my character wanted to tout an insult. Yes, even Meri has used a scant few of these. It's fun. It turned into an interesting 'old English' project for me to look the meaning of some of the more obscure ones up. (and before you ask, you are on your own =P Google is your friend =D)
Have fun with it, and thanks again to everyone who has contributed to this thread to make our server just as family and setting friendly as possible... even on the docks... among the worst of the rank miscreants.
If you haven't browsed through this thread, and your character is fond of tossing the odd insult, I invite you to look through it. There is a lot of really interesting ones here.

Re: TIPs to Swearing in the FR setting
Here is a fairly complete and massive glossary of Lore-appropriate phrases, sayings, and words, including curse words:
http://forum.candlekeep.com/topic.asp?T ... hichpage=1
Many of them are sourced. They include regional and racial variants as well. Pretty handy all in all, but probably too large to be a good "quick reference."
I particularly like the Harper curse. "May your harp be unstrung, your dreams die, and all your songs be unsung." That's harsh, man. That's harsh.

I once said that to Maecius. His wrath was swift and terrible; as you can see, Charraj got banished and I'm no longer on the DM team.Maecius wrote:"May your harp be unstrung, your dreams die, and all your songs be unsung."
Molly Longshot - Wheeee!
Sempo - Former butler, wandering priest
Mara - Paladin of Jergal
Tabby - Hedge witch, former bandit
Charraj Cain - Mystran. Dead.
DM Mister Rogers - It's such a good feeling to know that we're lifelong friends.

Re: TIPs to Swearing in the FR setting
You can always just go for a FR-appropriate adjective coupled with a standard English put-down.
Example: Someone called Varra a fool today, so she ripped into him leading off with something like "Listen, you troll-faced foul-smelling cretin...."
Works pretty well, actually. Plus it's satisfying to type out.
