Re: How to Create a Great Character: A RP Guide
As an old RPer, but new to the server, I've gotten one thing to add. I've seen a definite trend on this server where a character's aggression towards others is indirectly proportional to their own level, and this seems kind of meta-gamey. If you want to be an aggressive character that picks fights and such, play them straight. Don't wait until level twenty to start hanging around the campfire challenging newbies to lopsided fights. Now, I've only seen this, never experienced it, as my characters tend to be non-confrontational, but it's still just sad to see.
My Characters:
Vreshna Fearlian, Half-elf and fine purveyor of pre-owned cats from glorious Rashemen.
Thrud Nose-breaker, the pugilist orc with a wayward soul

Well, that is just your point of view. But how do you think server would maintain evil if every "bad ass" character would be hanged until level 10? As you are saying, your characters tend to be non-confrontational. Mine, as I am saying everywhere around are pure or almost pure evil. If you have high level it is like you was very experienced person, so viewing it as a roleplay you have better equipment and it is easy for you to pick noobs from the croud of the server's population. People have already way to avoid the fight anyway. If you are weak and see someone is very confident stating his point or whatever, just avoid making him angry. Why? Lets take the chaotic evil characters: they can be simply mad, at least mine few were. Do you think it takes a lot to make this character kill you? Still if you are in group of let us say 4 and want to try to pick on evil character - it is not as easy as you might suspect. Still, even the mad psycho has his view and can decide whether the situation: place, disadvantage is fine to start a fight or should he retreat.Yastin wrote:As an old RPer, but new to the server, I've gotten one thing to add. If evil characters "must" wait until a higher level before they start metagaming here, at least be honest about it. Only pick on people you believe could be of the same level as yourself. See, now both of your arguments are incorporated. Otherwise, what granted you the right to "bully"? If an evil character starts picking fights already at level 2 and up, I've no problem with it either. But a character that waits until epic levels to finally "roleplay" evil, by metagaming and just provoking lowlevels, is an awful player behind the screen. Just terrible.
Honestly, there are so many evil characters willing to bully a group of lowlevels, but they never do the same to a group of high levels. Metagaming, not roleplay.

I wouldn't brag about that. That was some dumb RP the only purpose of which was to annoy other players. At least, that was in my case. I don't care much for people who ignore NPC population.

BreakNova couldn't be more rightOn! Love love love this advice! Yastin kudo's to you too. Even at level 7 I try to maintain my character's "attitude".. like on the road to Beregost when the robber tied to rob us... (you know who you are *shakes fist*
).. Now I don't like PVP but to maintain her.. *ahem* "attitude" I simply said.. "Bite Me" and kept walking.. hehe. I try to make characters that are simple but unique and fun.. Homemade Apple Pie Anyone?

The band of general cutthroats, thieves, priests of ill repute, and machiavellan wannabe power-mongers I've been playing with recently don't really discriminate. Just the other week, it led to a hilarious situation where the one person we tried to rob turned the tables- capturing two of us but ending up dealing with the greater horror of one of the more romantic members of the party developing a serious case of Stockholm syndrome for the would-be victim turned captor.Karond wrote: Honestly, there are so many evil characters willing to bully a group of lowlevels, but they never do the same to a group of high levels. The way I see it, while you're on the lower levels, you're 'Team Rocket' evil. As in, your characters try for all these plots and general evil acts, but generally fail with great hilarity. How they survive, of course, is usually the entertaining part. Mewling, begging, playing dead...you name it.

Re: How to Create a Great Character: A RP Guide
Frankly I happen to Metagame in the opposite direction...I find someone doing something my character doesn't like. I will try and RP attempts to strike fear in them and get them to back down or admit fault(it doesn't usually work...) only the case of extreme stupidity on their character's part will I stab. Cause then i get angry screams and annoyance about a Level 30 smashing Lowbies...and I don't want to deal with that. =P

Anywho. . I asked around a bit and came up with the idea to make a list of players/pc's willing to answer mundane questions to new players . .
Here's the list so far:
LeslieMS
Gareut
CommanderKrieg
Zoe (pc name)
Bluehero
Beteas
I'm quite sure more will happily add themself to the list, thinking if the list got sticked somewhere bvious on the forum, new players will find important topics like this one more easy.
Feel free to send any annoying noobs my way I'll give em their own little event![]()

Awww...I am sad to hear this. It kinds of defeat the whole purpose of the game (aka, build together an epic story, where all the toons shine and everyone has fun, both occasional winner and occasional loser). Unfortunately, it is a "bonus feat" provided by other games where there IS no IC, only OOC: therefore it is hard for some players to realize what metagaming really is. Personally, I will try to help build RP/ give suggestions to anyone willing to play real D&D, if they have little experience and seek embettermentKarond wrote: Honestly, there are so many evil characters willing to bully a group of lowlevels, but they never do the same to a group of high levels.
