When it comes to thread necroing you have two choices:

A. Get yelled at for posting in an old thread

or

B. Get yelled at for creating a new topic that discusses something that has already been discussed.

i prefer people post in old topics, that shows they have looked around, and have had the option of reading what have already been said. sometimes its just pointless to post in them. but still

ok wait up a sec. I have a toon that I specifically built to be very hard to kill...as a consequence he takes forever to kill anything. So the best way for him to get exp is to stand somewhere that mobs spawn and then kill them when they attack him. My other toons are different, but this one really is boring. But I want to see how he evolves.

This process does not change whether I am sitting there staring at the screen, or whether I am alt tabbed doing e-mails, or watching a TV show, occasionally returning to him to pick up loot bags.

If I understand this thread I can only level my toon if I spend the time staring at the comp screen doing absolutely nothing because after all the game is supposed to be fun.....?

AFK grinding is punishable by the delevel (most likely to your first level) and sometimes by the confiscation of all your items if you are spotted by the DM or reported. I have seen it happen, so don't risk it.

I think, normaly, when people AFK grind, is they leave the char alone, to only come back and heal/rest/buff up. I often look at the tv while killing things, or perhaps something on the desktop, if im only fighting 1 mob, and can see it will take some time. But i wont b away for long. AFK grinding isnt when you fight one or to mobs, but completely leave the char in a spot, where mobs will spawn near it, and ingage you, without you have to move. Where you dont really have to do anything to gain xp, just prepare you char, and comes back to check up on it. I think that is what is the problem

Just seems odd, that if the toon is going to do the exact same thing whether I am staring at the screen touching no buttons, or reading a book, doing work, watching tv, etc. that I would want to stare at a screen.

Maybe it is a generational thing, but staring at a computer screen while doing nothing is not something I would classify as work.

But it is, as long as you get salary from it.

Anyway...

AFK-grinding is against the online role-playing etiquette.
Etiquette is a code of behavior that delineates expectations for social behavior according to contemporary conventional norms within a society. There is not much else to it. :D

Man, when grinding I can totally read a book or watch tv. Just need to keep an eye on the screen too.

Well, after a week or two you might look a bit like this, but who'll know? You're hiding in your room playing video games!

:D

If you grind you can't possibly have fun with it even by doing some other activity while your toon is fighting, so you can say "mindless grinding iz boring, i goes rp instead". In other words, if you dont dislike it enough, others will look down on you (but they wish they could do the same)

just grab a book or play in window mode, so you can move your toon every now and then and reply to people in the game, yah?
