For the last week, many a dockhand has been enjoying a laugh at the expense of a large war galleon bearing the flag of Amn.

It seems—as rumor is passed—that such a vessel was run aground near the mouth of Chionthar as it enters the Sea of Swords. A rowboat had made it's way to the Gate, and with enough coin to be persuasive, paid for a few smaller vessels to make way to the mouth of the river, where, with good tides and a bit of luck, the vessel was pulled back out to a depth worthy of its war galleon weight.

The dockhands enjoy most that it appears a smaller vessel—either merchant or friendly pirate—was the cause of this error on the part of the Amnian War Galleon. Those Baldurian dockhands and/or sailors paid for helping right the ship, overheard many a Amnian sailor cursing this mysterious smaller vessel.

From time to time, the enjoyment of this rumor is often placed parallel to the the fact of the Whistling Wanderess returning to port, after many months at Sea...or where ever they may have been. Coincidence or not, those dockhands friendly with any ship licensed to dock at the Gate, take a certain pride in the possibility....

A call is issued by the Flaming Fist Mercenary company to seek out the fate of a rookie patrol which has gone missing after being given the unenviable task of patrolling the sewers of Baldur's Gate. Several reports had been coming in of strange noises emitting from various sewer entry points around the city.

Norton issues a rewards for adventurers willing to venture into the sewers and gather evidence on, or rid the city of, the source of these disturbances. The Flaming Fist have been tight lipped on any results which may have come from thus far from these investigations.

Talk spreads around Baldur's Gate of a recent banquet held in the Thayan Enclave in the city. Rumors circulate after the event in Baldur's Gate that the local Thayan Conclave has selected a new leader, or as the Thayans call this person in an eastern manner: "Khazark". Some of the higher nobility of Baldur's Gate may have been seen attending, perhaps at the behest of the Dukes, with an entourage of Flaming Fist officers and guards, including the nobility judicator Grand Narhelm, the wealthy merchant Lady Mira Helder, the statesmanlike Lord Heldrun Tosketh, and the aloof yet remarkably intelligent mage Lord Tristan Highmoor. All four may have been seen to leave the Thayan party in a somewhat joyous manner. Some of these nobles leaving the party may have been overheard making jokes about the eastern sounding title of the Thayan leader, comparing it to something Tuigan barbarians of the far east would call themselves. It is mentioned in some circles that representatives of the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange also attended the banquet.

There is local talk in the Eastern Farmlands of Baldur's Gate that Farmer Jan had lost her prized boar, Bacon. Some say that local adventurers assisted her in returning the animal, after some commotion with a shapeshifting druid and a Flaming Fist guard a bit north of Jan's farm. The animal may have been seen returned near death to the farmer at her farm, where Jan, rumor says, exclaimed she will just have to slaughter the pig and offered excellent bacon to the adventurers as reward.

A Duchal Court is Held

Image

((image shamelessly stolen from the Helmite guild thread))

The Dukes of Baldur's Gate held a court, inviting various dignitaries to attend while they grant audience to the Everwatch Knights, who act as emissaries from the Council of Six of Amn. Duke Eltan was not present, called away on urgent business.

Those in attendance were: The Order of the Silver Rose, the Enclave of the Red Wizards, the Elves of Doron Amar, The Merchant's League, The Elder Circle and Candlekeep. The Order of the Radiant Heart was noted to be absent.

Discussion took place on foreign relations, particularly with Amn. No treaty was signed.

On a particularly rainy and stormy night a sizable delegation of Red Wizards arrive in Baldur's Gate and head strait through town for the Enclave. Those obsesrvant would notice a handful of black robed priests with skull masks among them ((lore 20: Priests of Jergal)).

Baldur's Gate is battered by a particularly nasty storm. Priests at the temple of umberlee go to give offerings at the docks but receive no respite. Those in the East Gate District look out through their windows suspiciously, as the Thayan Enclave is struck violently and repeatedly by lightning. Several adventurers go to investigate.

A street performer plays cheerful music in the plaza between Maltz' shop and the Elfsong Tavern. Many citizens and adventurers come to dance or sit at the Elfsong Tavern's outdoor area to have a drink and enjoy the music.

Runners bearing the seal of the Flaming Fist are seen summoning caravaneers to the Flaming Fist compound. The caravaneers are known contractors with the Fist and have experience in trade routes to the north. Its also said that the Flaming Fist have hired a prospector familiar with the Trollclaws as a guide. Furthermore, a number of strongboxes are also delivered, fit to store a valuable cargo.

It may be surmised that some expedition is being planned by the Flaming Fist.

Captain Norton, if approached, would mutter in his inimitable way:
"Damned dwarves. Why they had to go and put it in the paper, eh? Making me more work. Don't let it be said that the Dukes don't pay their debts. Kraak Helzak is going to get its damned gold. Now get lost and let me get on with my work."
He would angrily dismiss any further conversation.

Rumour has it that the Fist Caravan delivered gold to the delegates of Kraak Helzak at the foot of the Trollclaws.

Some of the Fist guarding the caravan speak of attempts to ambush the caravan by undead; others speak of elven scouts clearing the path for the caravan; others speak of an elven bandit attack which was for some reason called off.

Rumours also tell that the caravan was accompanied by Lady Mira Helder, who discharged fully the obligations under the Duke's treaty with Kraak Helzak.

A barechested half orc was seen running out of one of the warehouses in the Docks District waving a huge warmace. Some minutes later a dwarf wielding a battle axe and a short sword and a human with a longbow ran the same direction. They all disappeared behind some corner into a dark alley and were not seen after that.
