That's not needed I would say, all companions have certain traits, and there are feats which can be picked up to make them stronger as long as you stay pure druid.
Don't think the companion will be strong without using near half your spellbook to make it that strong though.
On the other hand, I've seen posts where druid players make a point where it takes to long to kill creatures. But then, my advice in those matters is:
Don't fill all your 9th slots with high damage Storms of Vengeance, yet, get some spell slot gear, and make sure your companion is able to fight like a lvl 30 fighter (at 30). True as some player told me, this obviously doesn't work well in Pvp. But Pve, it's insane. Get creative, try out what can and cannot be done with your companion alone, and tweak your spells to make the most out of the druid you play as a charachter, and the companion that is really strong.
It takes some trying out, but once you get to that niche where all spells work for both of you, you will be unstoppable PvE.
Try out what is possible not to have in your book buy buying scrolls. A mear mage armor scroll costs nothing. And while it does not add +6 to your companions armour, a nice +4 is still very good.
Point being: Playing druid is quite Balanced as it is, even per lore. They are powerful, as are their companions. Yet, playing druid while intending to rule the world, will never work. The entire class is built around support, and survival. If you really want to shine in fights, you figure out the way to keep not only your companion alive, but your party as well.
If, in an event, you and your pet are still alive, and the rest is dead? (whether it be by sending off your pet, or keeping it alive), at that point, you understand what druid combat is like. Killing things, whatever it is, isn't the point of playing druid anyway.
That's what makes them so scary.
Druid has one trait that most other classes that cast have not: They can walk around with a tweaked spell book, tried and tested, and make that work in almost all situations. So you get in to an event?"The Dm spawns something strong? Before knowing what is up, you already know it matters not.
Your entire spellbook, including usables, spells, and whatever you can think of that would keep you alive no matter what, Is always ready. All day long, 24/7
In lore, there's a reason Druids don't need anything, and can threaten anyone they want. And it's very well implemented in Nwn2.
So try your spells, test your companion, and see what works best to keep both alive, and still go strong. Because the last thing you want, is see your companion die. Whih not only sucks because you just now lost your level * fighter, but it's also BS in lore. And if it dies, you'll die soon as well.
For all that like druids, perhaps read how much effort it takes to gain (or regain) a companion.
Druids are loners, and no one gets them. A populair name for them is hippy. So the challenge is to show that you are not. Think about what you Rp, apart from saying you like trees.
A true druid will laugh at some charachter calling him a hippy. And next round, he'll either be dead, or running.
"Idiocy is not appreciated by the wise. I'll protect the land in my own way, and if fools decide to make changes because of politics, I will watch, and survive, to see them die of age. I have time, I am druid, and the magic of druids will be kept safe. We will bide our time, while man thinks to rule the world.
I simply appreciate living in it, I was born to appreciate the land. Whether a desert or tropical land, the arctic or mountains. The land talks to me to survive, I will be fine, and cherish what I am offered.
