TheVoid wrote:Prisoners under whose authortity? Unless you are sshamathian law enforcement you cannot formally take your own prisoners into the city if they have not committed a crime within the city or its surrounding domain. If you want to take prisoners to your own place in the ud like one of the many tunnels and caberns feel free, but the guards will question why a citizen or a non citizen is bringing in a non-registered person/prisoner into the city if:
1. You are not law enforcement or associated with the city's law enforcement organizations.
2. They did not commit any crimes under sshamathian law.
If you want to sneak them in that is fine but that is more kidnapping than formally arresting someone and declaring them a prisoner.
I was asking if the conclave would grant a permission let's say in DM events and out of mere curiosity. And yeah I know I can keep dreaming for the above to happen
I'm not trying to cheat the system and am not twisting my questions to fit the rules Questions haven't changed since my first post. It's pure need-to-know
Now I know

Like... treating spiders badly within the city boarders is forbidden.
Why would they do such a thing?

Though this situation would highly disturb most other
individuals, the drow are absolutely comfortable with it and
don’t give this state of affairs much thought. It is as natural to
them as grass is to surface elves. The drow suffer surprisingly
few bites—perhaps through the grace of Lolth—even though
many of these arachnids are venomous and irritable. A drow
who is bitten usually assumes she is either being punished
for some minor infraction or being tested. The drow have no
particular taboo against killing spiders, but they don’t make
a habit of doing so for no apparent reason.
In fact, despite (or perhaps because of) their reverence for
these arachnids, spiders make up a regular portion of the
drow diet. They are rarely the main course, but are instead
consumed as a symbolic portion of the meal, usually at the
beginning—almost the equivalent of asking Lolth’s grace.

There are merchants and players around that arent drow. They might not be used to spiders and some see them as an annoying animal.
Iam not sure but i think the arcane council/guards wont intervene a grey dwarf killing a spider inside his merchant tent. Guards seeing that might stare at him angry, but wont act.
Or if the everpresent cityguard spotting it:
1) is a lolthite zealot
2) wish to fatten his wages
3) this day was incredibly dull and he was hungover and irritated.
4) be creative..
Honestly i dont know what if anything would happen to mentioned nonpeople trader if caught in the act described.
Anyone not drow is.. Not drow.

Yeah, please notice the mention of drow. Also make it as a threat and you will high five Myrkul within seconds.

So law-wise nothing changed with Lolthites in council. Just that guards now follow also their instructions.
Where were you with those ideas before level 20?

The topic of slavery on intelligent races have been discussed previously in this thread. But what about indentured servants?
Slavery is when the servant have no choice but to serve under pain of death and will never gain freedom again. The labor is chosen on a whim by the master and will be forced upon the servant if he/she is unwilling to carry out the labor.
Indentured servants have a contract that specifies the terms of bondage, what the labor consists of, what the punishments are, what stipulates as a break of contract by the employer and when or what the terms of release are.
Would this be allowed as per Sshamath law, even if the indenture is achieved as a way for the person in question to avoid torture or death? Essentially buying his/her life or reprieve from further pain.
Of course, if the Intelligence score of the employer is high enough and the Wisdom score of the servant low enough, the contract could be worded in such a way that while release on paper is an option, it is not practical or easily achievable. Just like when Devils are trying to trick mortals with their vague words, fine-print and similar things to actually receive their soul as payment, even when the mortal didn't realise it.

Would you compare a light spell with a sunbeam spell to?
Servants can actually be treated worse than slaves, while slaves can command servants.
But make no mistake there are vast differences between the two.
There is a difference between hiring someone to clean your kitchen and forcing someone to clean your kitchen, amongst other... chores.
As for slavery I believe it is still the server rule that a sentient being a slave must have been brought into the city by a visitor and still belong to said visitor.
Hiring other toons for mercenary duties and bodyguarding is rather common.
Bards also gets commissioned and paid once in a while.
Wizards and clergy do sell their services from time to time.
One of my naughtier toons indentured a wizard for a while since the fool would agree to this in return for the resurrection of his quite deceased friend.
I dont know how many times ive used the "hire a guide" ploy to give new players in the UD introductions in character.
If someone wants to be someone else's secretary, bodyguard, apprentice or whatnot..
why not?
It is all about mutual player agreement I guess.

"Noncitizens
While the drow of Sshamath hold themselves above all other races, they do cede a modicum of respect to races capable of true wizardry. As such, slaves include only those races deemed incapable of manipulating wizardly magic, such as chitines, goblins, grimlocks, minotaurs, and ogres. Members of these and similar races who can use arcane magic are seen as anomalies or trick ponies rather than indications of wizardly ability for the race. Notable races excluded from slavery (except as slaves of visitors) include elves, humans, svirfneblin, and deep Imaskari. Constructs, conjured creatures, and controlled undead are considered objects, even when capable of wizardry, and have no rights. Races capable of wizardry who reach Sshamath of their own accord as free-willed beings have the right to remain within the city for as long as they obey its laws and conduct ongoing business with residents. Actual citizenship is never granted to nondrow, though permanent residency is allowed so long as business is conducted as mentioned above. This second-class 'ghetto' of humans and Deep Imaskari is never allowed to grow large, but the city recognizes the value of these noncitizens as scapegoats or sacrificial lambs.
NOTE: Bards, sorcerers, and the practioners of divine magic are also considered to be of second-class status, though drow of these classes may be actual citizens within the City of Dark Weavings all the same. The dark elves of Sshamath view power that occurs naturally or because of service to another creature as inferior to power won through personal achievement."
This is a pretty accurate picture of what Void was hinting at throughout the thread.
Aelcar Lightbringer, Knight of the Merciful Sword: Disappeared after the victorious defense of the Gate against The Blight.
Olath M'elzar Valshar The Black, The Phantom Wizard: Retired Steward of the School of Necromancy and former Eye of the 7th Circle.
So if a surfacer is brought to the city, reasons for this can be numerous, held captive and possibly tortured (FTB) until they agree to enter the service of their captor for a length of time in exchange for their eventual freedom, then that would be possible and allowed as well as granting them the right to stay within the city during their servitude, but only as a resident?
