The largest draw back is it's reliance on worshiping and praying daily to a non Dwarven water god. Something that in it's self would bring some stigma RP wise.

DR is nice in any form. If you asking if it's worth the 21+ Con to get bonus epic DR that's debatable. If you already have the Con then yeah that DR is very nice! As stated above Redundancy can be king, Dwarves do have back up plans for their back up plans after all :)

Thanks to you both. Got it. My build is a non-dwarf and is somewhat different but it seems you're saying the DR will be put at least to some, possibly life-saving use.

Is this still a viable build? I stumbled across this post and it excited me that I could potentially rebuild my character from a recent Icewind Dale:EE Dwarven Defender solo run I've been playing on my iPad. I was thinking about a rog or sorc but it didn't cross my mind to do a DD. I'm certainly inspired to play one!

It certainly looks still viable to me. I don't think any of its classes have changed for the worse and all those defensive abilities remain as relevant as ever.

I decided to make one in a Gray dwarf. Also as I am sure there are many who really just do not want to take the time to put it into the builder either so I went ahead and did it! Here is the link.

It has some issue with getting the wands useful since Gray dwarf has 4 CHA but otherwise should play much the same.
