I don't think casters would ever be irrelevant. Some Gishes might. I don't think that would be a bad thing, but I'd also tone down the power of UMD in some fashion so the UMD gishes were also less powerful.

As you have read in other threads, it is very very difficult to make a change.

That's the CL bug I presume. Well approach it a different way and do something about Wand use, which is the main issue.

so the dwarf gets +4 AC vs a giant and the giant gets +4 dmg +1 spot, listen ant taunt and we make a big deal of it? he can get even +10 dmg cos he will never hit him
