I noticed something funky regarding PP on NPCs.

So after seeing that update, I decided to make a Rogue, (Obviously )

Upon robbing bandits in the Northern Caves of Baldur's, I noticed that some NPCs 'Shared' the same Toon essentially.

So if there were two Bandit Mages (In different areas / different spawns) it seemed I could only PP one of those two, as they are considered the same 'Character'.

While it seems a mechanical mishap, likely because they're copy/paste NPCs, I found it kind of frustrating. Because I'm really really greedy.

I'm tired of the DMs are protecting these Criminals. Down with the 1%, give us back our money! (via pick-pocket from Bandits)

Paul, this is a known issue and all NPCs would need individual name tags (so each NPC could be picked).

If you pick a "Citizen" in BG, you also won't be able to pick a "Citizen" in Beregost, until the timer passes.

well, unless something changed which is unlikely with this case, it is ALL NPCs are treated as one when you PP, neutral, friendly and hostile

PP one and you just PP'd the entire population

would be nice to have it fixed so thieves have something other than players to steal from, but the overhaul required for it makes it something thats unlikely to get touched

I'll take a look at what's causing this tomorrow. It should be a fairly easy fix going by the bug description. This is one of those things which can be an issue when a new system-module is taken out of its testing environment and goes live. :)

Any other feedback apart from this?

well that particular bug has nothing to do with the new systwm ras, PP has -always- been that way

Sounds like it would be an awesome fix, so I could get my PP on those thieves. :P

I had someone pickpocket one of my characters (I only knew they pickpocketed me, because I had my inventory open and noticed the gold drop). I sent the player a tell, "At least you could have roleplayed bumping into me or something..." to which I received no response - naturally. Is there anything that can be done to include a pop-up text depending on their roll compared to your opposing roll?

Something as simple as, "Joe Bob Smith bumps into Jimmy Crack Corn." if they barely beat the roll.

no, sounds way too open for metagaming

and also too many moving parts in one area has proven to be extremely bad and will likely be avoided (things like multiple possibilities for the same action, they just end up getting crossed)

So, just let it slide then or metagame and beat their ass when I see my gold drop. :P

i would look at it this way

if you cannot prove it, dont do it

sure you see your gold drop and kill them, then he takes a screenie and tells the DMs you attacked him for no reason and who is the one you think is gonna get in trouble?

even if he takes a screenie of the combat log or not, the log will show you failed the save and metagamed so you wouldnt have anything to argue with

so yea id just take it :P

Hey, there is no room for logic in my fantasy world! lol

But, on a serious note I completely understand and I do my best not to metagame and to compartmentalize what I see and what my character sees. Hence my tell to the player. It was only like 30 gold on a newbie character, it just bothers me that someone will pickpocket and not have the courtesy of writing something as simple as *brushes past* when they pickpocket. That's almost as bad as unauthorized PvP in my opinion.

I have sent Luna a new version of the pick pocket mechanic to fix the old identical-name bug. Steve explained it right. It looks like this has been a bug since sharklike wrote the original script for it for BTSCC on 15 oktober 2009 (he made a note).

thieves that didnt stealth use to emote quite a bit back in the day, however people just metagamed hostility to a bump metagaming the thief stole something and tried to fight them that way

so emoting anything died out quick

and if you catch them it is auto pvp consent anyway so when you do actually catch one you can either emote/rp while they run away or you can toggle hostile and beat em up before they run and then rp after

either way lack of emotes with pickpocketing has become a vicious cycle of opportunity as the luxury part is no longer existent

shoot first, ask questions later :P

Not all pick pocketing happens with a bump or brush pass. A skilled cutpurse can walk past someone and only interact with the purse being cut. But I wholly agree that if a character is doing the bump or brush it should be emoted.

And if you emote checking your coin purse right before you get picked and see the gold amount reduce, it might be enough to see a hand go in and grab gold! But don't quote me on it though!!!

I emote all touches when picking and even offered a spot check to others that were near by before this marvelous script was implemented. Unfortunately, I actually had one player complain OOCly about my giving the spot check. His reason was he felt I was shoving the fact that I was picking pockets down their throat and gloating. :| The point is, even when a player tries to be fair, there might be someone who feels slighted. Screenshots help to avoid any complaints, even if it might be cumbersome to do it for every pick on a pc, it might save a thief from grief from that one who does make a complaint.
