I can confirm that Doron Amar has been very active. I have been bumping into their elves a lot. Saw few of the other guilds too.

Don't you have RP or something to go do? Why waste time here?
Nice one!

The Sword Coast Commercial Exchange is active. Steve would likely object as we're not very visible IG :) But we're not your usual hack'n'slash guys. We're getting busy making money and ruling the world ;)

I object! No...I abject! Yes, that's the ticket. And not simply to piss off Calodan. 8-)

Here's why:

Once upon a time, the benefit for having Guilds and Factions built and maintained on BGTSCC was two-fold: a) for Players—PLURAL!!!—to develop role-play together on a regular basis, that makes storylines happen; b) for DMs to support a plurality of Players—via autonomous Guilds/Factions—in order to further storylines (be then Guild/faction generated or DM introduced).

So I ask you all: why are so many Guilds/Factions falling apart? There is always entropy, but in the last year, wow....

Some say it is the Players themselves, that run those Guilds/Factions. Before you get your dander up, do realize I myself have and do run some Guilds/Factions, so I take the blame, if blame needs to be given. Some say it has been DM actions that have ruined Guilds/Factions, by...whatever (again, realize that I too was a DM/Head DM, and therefore, bear any responsibility for having done that...unintentionally). Some say that being in a Guild/Faction actually doesn't DO anything, other than take a lot of energy, time and effort.

So what is the Role of an Active Guild these days, on BGTSCC?

Now, I would offer that Guild/Faction offers a particular type of comradery role-play, in the simplest form. Building upon that, one can role-play Canon Lore aspects unavailable to other RP. In some instances, Guild RP allows for larger scale effects and actions upon the "greater" storyline, the world, the Sword Coast, as it were.

How is that happening, currently? Is gathering 400,000 coin, holding a Guild Forum for 90 days, then finding a Dev to make you a Guild Hall, the extent to making Guild RP...interesting? Maybe for some, maybe for only a small segment of time. There are proabably, currently, more abandoned Private Guild Areas on BGTSCC, than regularly populated ones. And, a population of 1 PC, is not population...does not a Guild/Faction make. :( And that stands apart from the small sadness it is, when 1 Players becomes the sole responsible person to a Guild, whether or not there is more than 1 active member(s). Guilds/Factions seem to live or die by the person that remains the Guild Leader...and I'm sure many can speak to the lack of reward—not to mention the lack of respect—that might generate. Well...except for the high propensity of Guild Leaders eventually being made DMs (which we are still unable to decide is really a reward or not! )

Unlike the painting by Calodan, I am not being pessimistic here. I am asking what the true Status is, by first defining what a Guild/Faction role is on BGTSCC, then trying to define what Active truly means.

I doubt anyone will argue me with this statement (quickly looks to see if I'm still Ignored by Negs...*breathes sigh of relief*): more mates in a Guild equals a better time on this Game.

What can be done about it? What brings more Players in to a Guild? Are Guilds/Factions providing ANYTHING more special than an individualistic RP'd PC can provide a Player? Can Players, must Players, do it themselves, and what would the new paradigm look like?

Seriously. Wouldn't it be nice if Guilds/Factions played a much more direct role in the Meta Storyline? And if not that, then with some concrete meaning within the general environment?

Seeing as you just wanted to know what guild were out there,

Order of Lions - Was mentioned. I have yet to get around to updating the guild page but it is a networking guild and we mostly look for established characters. That said, one of the goals is to help out new people to Baldur's Gate (IE new players). So if you wander around the server and you feel like you cannot find people to RP with or you are at loss equipment wise, just come by to the guild hall and introductions can be made and equipment sorted out. Note that the guild is not going to aid known evil characters.

The Performers Guild - Often known as just the White Mask Theater, as that is the guild hall. Excellent place for bards and performers (do not need bard levels). An easy going bunch of people who every now and then set up public events for all to enjoy.

The Herald - A newspaper released every month. Very easy going. Accepting anyone decent who can write pretty much. No official guild hall.

All three have pretty low activity 'requirements' but of course, the more you are involved, the more rewarding it is. None hold weekly meetings (time zones, urgh!) but we can get together a good amount of people when needed.

Phoenix Company:

we very much tailor towards new players. Our joining requirements are virtually nil. We push for. or at least I push for character development. We have been working on our guild role play for over a year and continue to push that agenda.

We typically have (Player driven Events). The reason for this is to enhance and drive the plot hooks for the players. We (DO) get DM support on these due to the involvement by the players themselves bringing the requests to the DM team.

We Meet every weekend for meetings. Even if we are not in an event we attempt to do some sort of training mission. We are welcoming to other guilds and very much attempt to involve them in our storylines.

We have massive turnaround. It is the downside of getting new players. Some lose interest in the game and quit. Others decide they want to play a different toon and join a different guild. We are completely understanding of this and that is why we maintain such a high membership quota. We are definitely a phoenix however that continuously rises from the ashes.

We are constantly looking to find new members. Currently we have 23 members. some more active than others but still very much members.
Seriously. Wouldn't it be nice if Guilds/Factions played a much more direct role in the Meta Story line? And if not that, then with some concrete meaning within the general environment?
I would very much like to see that. However steve it will take our guild working to insert themselves into that plot line in order to see this actually occur. with that said.............
Hello all,
We were invited to meet up with Lady Wai Li of the everwatch nights to do a patrol with them in the greypeaks on 4/17. I think the time will be 1900 GMT.

I have not been able to get a hold up Lady Wai Li, so if the greypeaks patrol falls through, or we just have extra time, I was also planning to head over and do a patrol between Triel and Soubar. There are rumors of black orcs in the area, and I felt we should check it out. We may not find nothing, but we should at least look.

An Active agent

(((OOC: this is not a DM event, just planning to do the patrol for black orcs and then post about in the DM 1352 threads, and see if it goes anywhere.

The Red Wizards of Thay.

If you are interested in intrigue, political, evil and merchant RP, this is the right place for you!

WE are very much active with 4-5 active players. The name of the faction is not totally representative of what you can play in the faction.

Here's the link to the faction page:
http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=3163&start=30

And here's the link for the application questionaire for Both Red Wizards and Thayan Knights.
http://bgtscc.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=16924

We are looking, always, for more Red Wizards, more Knights. Also, we'd like to get some agents (undercover or not) and priests (see the guild page for info).

I feel this is actually very difficult for a guild to achieve. It requires DM time, and DM time is at a premium.

As said =].

We have a solid group of 4-6+ active RPers depending on how busy folks are.

Here are two RP events that we have coming up, if you would like to join in as a member or non-member IC and it IC would make sense for you to participate IC!
