If one NPC "epic Orc" represents a group of 4 to 10 Black Orc then yes a PC representing a single epic Orc would be weaker-ish.

I've long been an advocate for PC monster races, given the right set up. I'd love to play a kobold, gnoll, hobgoblin, etc. I've played them on other servers and really enjoyed it. Not as big a fan of black orc, given their house-made origins and what seems to be a semi-tolkein-ish frame of reference, but as a part of the whole I think it would be cool.
We still don't really have a great infrastructure in place for such a thing, however, so it seems premature to hash out any details for such a thing. We'd need a dedicated starting area, with areas available for semi-protected level advancement, quests, shops, etc. We'd need a focus on collaborative over competitive gameplay.
I don't see it being very successful until then.

Black Orcs too powerful?!?
How many PCs on this Server have killed
dragons?! DRAGONS!!!
For years, Players begged to be able to play a monster race. They begged in equal amounts to have Gray Orcs removed from the Server...a host of valid reasons supporting their claims on both subjects.
The Black Orc player race would have satisfied these 2 requests, in addition, create a path for custom Server content and History to have long lasting manifestations, which could be possible and multiple with other, future projects—like old D&D, the DM is shown how to craft a custom world from whatever source material she sees fit to apply.
And honestly, BGTSCC is already like that.
Having been deeply involved in Orc RP for many years, I personally do not believe this Server is ready or could support Black Orcs as a player race. The Server setup is too restrictive, and it will force a loneliness upon a Player or two that will result in everything from Orc-hugger RP at the FAI campfire, to wanton PvP assaults that will lead to OOC sourness and DM headache.
Have you not seen/read the "complaints" of Players of Evil PCs recently posted on this Forum? Imagine those issues quadrupled for Black Orc players!

I am by no means saying that the black orc race needs to be added in right now at present time. The reason for the topic was to see if it was possible to get it as a race for the future or why they were restricted to us the players in the first place. If anyone remembers the Grey Orc Kogan Tribe. We were a very successful orc tribe on the server from before that was 12 players strong. The main reason the Kogans died out is most of us did not like the lore of the Grey orcs. Also we had no safe haven on the server at the time or anywhere to relax and chat in General without someone coming to start trouble.

Yeah i never understood the black orc thing when there is a thayan enclave nearby, there are black orcs in thay but on the sword coast? Not sure how they got here but if they are originally from thay i guess its whatever, but they would be acting on their own as any red wizard would want to reel them in under their control again and probably get sent back to their country.

Or... what seems the best idea that fixes the whole grey/black orc is to change the race name to just... Orc

Black Orcs really shouldn't be a separate race. They were originally mountain orcs that split off from the Orcs in the Sharpteeth. If anything, they should be considered another tribe of mountain orcs that simply paints themselves Black. That's just my opinion though, I do not know what general DM consensus is though.

That is what they originally were in the "Tusks, Teeth, and Talons" campaign, way back in May of 2010.

Have the Black Orcs really been around for six years?
They originally came into server prominence when the elves of Doron Amar began actively trying to eradicate the orc population in the Woods of Sharpteeth, and the orcs had to fight for the survival of their species.
Over time their lore has changed a little with changes in campaign placement and DM sensibilities, but ultimately whatever we do with them, whether they stay NPC or open up to PCs, they are probably the most prominent and long-lasting orc faction in the server's limited orc history.
The
oldest orc faction in the server's history (that I can think of) was probably the "Orc Patrol."

But they were largely comic relief and were organized by players.

The problem with orcs in general is they are usually all fighters, and mabey a cleric here or there.
if we could add mabey two other monster races, such as goblin(easy to change halfling to tanauaak model) and perhaps something more arcane like an ogre mage. This would encourage more moster play and there will be a bit of division to add some interesting rp elements.
you can build proper monster raiding parties, with different rp and that would allow the dm team tomake pvp on sight monster races and ban them from goody type places. This would help lower the snowflakes as well.
Mountain Orcs - Melee fighters
Goblins - sneaks hips
Ogre Mages - Arcane spell Caster

Ogre mage doesn't feel right. I think drow, tieflings, snowflakes and traitors would be needed to fill a mage roll. Goblin would be a clear choice as a playable if expansion of this type is desired.

I would roll a goblin flunky for the orcs!

Why would a goblin need to be a flunky. Goblins are a key member of the monsters us machine.

There are already ogre mage NPCs on the server in a few places, oni aren't really weird.
