It was suggested to me that these items could bind on equip instead of on purchase.chad878262 wrote:Well, I would say Akroma and his clientele have been well served by not making them undroppable. There are builds that can't survive the trip or for IC reasons wouldn't go to the stores location and enterprising merchants (there are a few I've seen) have generated RP while providing a service to those characters that have the funds, but not the survivability to obtain the available gear. If the gear from the store can't be dropped/traded that RP and service industry goes away and I'm not sure that is the right direction to go.gedweyignasia wrote:Could always make the items from the epic store undroppable.chad878262 wrote:Well it is important to note that the epic shop is most probably a short term gold sink unless other changes occur. At some point players will have their +4 dodge boots with extra's, their +4 natural armor item, their +4 deflection item, their favorite armor, weapon, etc. etc. and then because we have no rules against muling, any future characters of the PC will be able to trade/sell gear to make a decent portion of the cost back, thus being able to switch to new gear when they change PC's.

Thats something i like to happen, if it can be implemented. It will certainly extend the "life" of this epic shop.gedweyignasia wrote:It was suggested to me that these items could bind on equip instead of on purchase.

It would be very straightforward to include, and could be made to affect epic items retroactively (provided players were given adequate warning).mrm3ntalist wrote:Thats something i like to happen, if it can be implemented. Re: XP drip becomes a gold drip at level 30
I think making items unable to be dropped just widens the gaps between the haves and have nots. Those of us unable to play the game for dozens of hours a week, thus devoting fewer hours to straight looting, will be lucky to afford one of these epic items at any point during our play time.
Locking that item to that character seems arbitrary given our historical stance on muling and only means that these epic items would likely be the realm of the professional looters only.
I don't see that as a desirable outcome.

As much as I would love to discus the bind on equip of items, let's stay on topic for the sake of QC, the new forum rules, and the OP. Feel free to comment on the epic shop thread about the binding feature.
Appreciate it guys.

Re: XP drip becomes a gold drip at level 30
While I would not necessarily be against such an implementation, it is inconsistent with the rules of the server. We either allow muling, or we do not, I don't see it as a good policy to allow muling on found/grandfathered gear, but to disallow it on gear purchased from the new epic shop. That essentially creates a scenario where the 'old guard' is allowed to freely trade equipment between multiple characters while newer players have no such capability. This causes further inequity in equipment, gold, etc. between older/established players and new. So my thought would be you either disallow muling all together, with an appropriate time given for folks to get their gear situated as they would like it to remain, or you allow muling and epic shop gear should be treated no differently then any other epic item.
I am not saying either way is right or wrong, but I do feel it should be consistent for all gear.

If QC and OP want to continue down the epic shop discussion path, I'll let it continue. Just didn't want to take away from Flasmix's idea and keep in line with the suggestion forum rules.
Flasmix or QC if you want me to direct this a bit more streamline of the idea, please PM mod staff. Otherwise, please continue.

In general, I think this would just add to helping the RPers, long time players and those who don't have the time to grind and grind like a standard MMO. There is little to no benefit for the constant grinders as the script deactivates if a chest is looted.

I really like the idea, but it's important to recognize the dangers of inflating the ingame economy. We need some code to track the ingame economy so we can calibrate such a trickle to work correctly. Inflation is dangerous, because it makes it harder to bring new players in. Aspect of Sorrow is working on some code that will allow us to (eventually) get a better picture of who's in poverty, who's Scrooge McDuck'ing into a pool of gold, and why for each case.Flasmix wrote:In general, I think this would just add to helping the RPers, long time players and those who don't have the time to grind and grind like a standard MMO. Same as chad. I'd rather see inccreased sales cap on merchants, because ability to conjure gold out of thin air by *admiring a rock* doesn't make much sense to me. Gold is a physical thing. XP is not.Flasmix wrote:Hey guys. If you're like me, you'd prefer spending time RPing rather than grinding. This makes it hard to make any money for teleporting or the epic store.
My idea turns the rp xp drip into a gold drip at level 30. If any chests are looted the gold drip is deactivated for an hour so the grinders can't double dip.
This idea came about after hearing multiple stories of long time players having almost no money. Thoughts?
Alternativley, if crafting system was in, xp could be used (as per pnp rules) for crafting, that would make earning xp past level 30 valuable.

@NegInfinity
You could think of the trickle gold income as signifying the player character's income from their job.

Nice idea (I'd like to have "jobs" for characters), but it doesn't explain why nobody is allowed to take a job before level 30. Flasmix suggestion is "after level 30".gedweyignasia wrote:@NegInfinity

Re: XP drip becomes a gold drip at level 30
It's not that the gold is coming from a job, it's that you're getting gold and can RP it as you wish.
Did your character write a book? Maybe it's selling well.
Is your character a mercenary? Perhaps you did some minor escort jobs in your spare time.
Are you a lumberjack? Wood is always needed, particularly during cold weather.
The list goes on and on. You can even ignore it completely and pretend it came from other things you did that earned you gold. The point is your character gets a small reward for your role play. Before 30 it's experience. The suggestion is that we make it something useful after 30 as well.
Personally I would like to make it a choice, so you can get either gold or experience. I'm quickly reaching the point with my main character where I don't really care about experience anymore, and so I'd love to switch over to gold before level 30 arrives.

I don't agree with this kind mechanic being restricted to level 30. If it is in, it should be available to everybody.Side wrote:It's not that the gold is coming from a job, it's that you're getting gold and can RP it as you wish.

In the end I think it'll only contribute to more disparity between characters. Level 30 is pretty much immortal, and has nothing to lose, so they can do suicidal loot runs and keep accumulating gold/items for years. Gold drip would only give them more gold.
I don't have anything else to add to the topic, though.
