Losing two of the best dms we've had in a long time here. Terrible decisions...

The Staff is a different issue. I assure you the differences are with a small minority as the staff here for the most part is wonderful, supportive of each other and a good group to be around. I admit when I do work, I am a bit of harsh woman to say it nicely. That is because I want to get things done. Though more so I came to dm'ing with a philosophy, this inventably put me in conflict with a few. This is directly from my application I sent when I sought a place at the DM table.
Quote:
"Always Consider Yes"
'Always Consider Yes' is a theory I have in DMing, when a player wants to do something my first response is never no. No is so negative it can set a player back, and im not saying No isnt sometimes necessary. Even if the idea is insane, or should be impossible, even flat out denied, I take a pause and think "maybe" what is "the yes here". There is a possibility the player didn't fully explain their thought process yet, and just saying no can dishearten a person from being creative or feeling active in the community. There is the possibility I did not understand them and why should I deny the player if its my fault? So instead I think, Maybe yes, but lets ask questions and see what their goal is, or what they are considering. Maybe illustrate the restrictions why it would be denied before flatly doing so. While I know some think valuable time would be taken up, I feel just considering yes, is only a minute more and worth the time. Where here for the player not ourselves.
This!
Hera, that is exactly what you did. And thankyou very much
This server should be a "fun learning and engaging" tool/game for everyone. Not every player, DM or staff in general, is an expert in their BGTSCC field and completely flawless.
Everyone needs development, coaching, mentoring and support.
But MOST importantly. Is constructive feedback, and an environment in which they are safely supported to alter/evolve/grow into better personnel.
If this places wants to have the management structure of a well functioning corporate entity. Then they need to back it up with a personnel management system that is suitable for all situations.
You can't have the stick, without the carrot.

Well this is garbage. Hera your work here was phenomenal, and I seriously think losing you as a DM is a detriment to the server and its playerbase. Your stories have opportunities for characters of all sorts, and were inviting to new faces. That's a strength I think should be nurtured, not amputated. That these complaints weren't brought up with you and instead left to pile up to justify dismissal is just poor management.
I can acknowledge that there were flaws, but the overall talent warrants that the flaws can be improved for a truly wonderful DM. This decision was terrible. I can only hope that the staff realizes that.

It's aggravating to me that we are losing some of the most active and story driven DM's right now when there are so many DM's i've never yet seen on the server not seen host an event.. Gotta say I'm sad that you guys got the boot over the ones that dont drive the story forward at all. With this I think my time here is truely done now. Was just taking a break cause of irritation but now that all of these wonderful staff members are being removed I think It's time for me to move on. Maybe someday I'll return but until then.

Yes seems the good , fun and active DM's get the boot for shady reasons.

I said some words to you in private expressing my thanks, Hera, after the last event you had which just happened to be Adelaide's retirement event. I'm sorry you were removed immediately after it, but also glad we had the chance to get it done. I hope it did end DMing on a high note for yourself and that it also gave your long plot a proper ending (6 months interlocked story arcs?!). Thank you for working with me, to align my wishes for my character with the plot ending.
You've had a very good talent in making NPCs come alive. My favourite was Duke Entar, in how he was portrayed in handling his grief over Brilla while still being a leader figure for the city. Despite my character's interactions with the Duke - he always remained the Duke. I'm glad that line was never blurred for me, which also shows why I think you got his character portrayal very right. With my character having a tendency to be overly friendly at times, it was important. The political intrigues at the Palace were also interesting and added to that there was a dimension of things going on, even if our characters couldn't directly see or be involved in it.
You ran... a lot of events. Everyone knew you were always around at a certain time, so they used to wait for you to show up nearly every day. I was always worried you'd be burnt out and drop the plots. You involved a lot of people who played varied characters and I saw myself how you tried to involve many low level characters. Sadly, few stuck around on their characters but I don't think it's any fault of your own. Low levels just have a very high turnover rate as people tire or just try out different concepts.
Overall, your plots brought Adelaide to work with characters she usually would not have had - Zhentarim and Red Wizards. Very, very interesting interactions and it developed relationships that would extend beyond the plot. The only sad thing about your event times was that it was very late for Euro players but you still tried to involve them when time permitted. I know you got swamped in RL work occasionally and fell behind on PMs... but you did take on a huge workload as far as events goes. You were crazy to do that in a way, and staying on top of it all was always going to be hard.
You always tried to do something that would feel personal or in some way make a particular character's interests relevant. It was something I wanted worked into the final event, because I didn't just want it to be about my character's sacrifice. Not sure we succeeded 100% to make everyone feel involved... but effort was made and thought went into it. It can be super difficult, especially in event that involves a fair few.
I think a mention of the UD side is deserved as well. My drow will forever wonder when that big bad shadow will come back and secretly hope the big bad shadow just has such poor sense of time that he himself will be dead when it remembers. Truly a "oh crap what the vith did I summon"-moment in his quest for knowledge. Likewise, these events involved many... but are now left as a mystery.

Thank you Hera for your time as Dm. I've had two characters who had the chance to explore their personal interests through your storylines to a great affect. They were able to form connections with other characters which they otherwise might not have. Much of glowfire's post resonates with me as well. Perhaps we'll see each other more playerside.

DM Hera, thank you for all of the many long hours of work and service that you did for the DM Team and the community and also for your advocacy for players. Thank you for all you did to add to and refine the lore base of the server as well!
As Maecius said, it is DM policy not to publicly comment on why a recent DM left the DM Team in order to protect their public reputation after they are no longer on the Team, so it does not hurt their player experience, so the DM Team will not be formally engaging in this thread beyond this post. As long as the thread otherwise follows forum rules, we recommend to the Moderators that we leave it open.
