Hello as someone who recently started from 1000gp mark i thought id add my 2cents.

A) i dont mind muling - the server is tough enough to start out on. I went with a divine caster so i would learn the custom stuff as i go. Cant imagine rolling anything much weaker without burning out.

B) level restrictions seem like a valid fix.

C) changing the cr on mobs depending on gear will just make a bunch of us ignore alot of gear. Why have it when it dosnt really make you stronger just bigger numbers to look at?

I voted yes to block muling mechanically - its a step in good direction.
BUT!
1. It needs to be done in really good manner. Getting account-ID-s attached to items etc. This will probably require some development time (worth it in my opinion) or picking up existing solution and testing it extensively (also worth its time IMO). Make it so no one can get around it and it won't consume DM-s time when implemented.
2. It requires changes to loot system, perhaps addition of crafting, some adjustments to classes with visibly higher early lvl difficultly.

IF and only if we can achieve above I'm all yes on the idea.
I've seen servers that had good systems for it.

OH MY GOD NO DO NOT BRING BACK LEVEL RESTRICTIONS.

That was one of the reasons people HATED BG back in the day - I've come on this server on and off over the years. I cried tears of joy when the level restrictions were gone, it made the agony of slowness even -worse-. I swear, reading this thread is like... You guys take one step forward and want to take two steps back now.

This game costs like 5 bucks on sale.

New CD keys, multiple IPs. While I wouldn't put my l33t hackerz skills up against those here that protect us from such... I am sure it would be possible to work around.

I mean, all I would need is a guild of merchants that buy and sell each other things in a chain long enough, a new account every now and then.

There are much bigger fish to fry.

That reminds me - there was a good system of selling stuff between characters of the same player on one server where they had auction house with much lower fees (it was not NwN2 but Ultima Online RP server).
It basically allowed people trading stuff between characters if item was on auction house available to be bought by others for at least 24 hours. Perhaps something similar could be implemented here to block muling but allowing people to trade things but for prices of items real value which auction system guaranteed since items put on auction for a too low price would be probably bought by someone else.

There are ways around this - I've seen systems that worked.
Edit:
Plus seriously there are programs that can add any item you want - that doesn't mean we should add +20 gear to vendors.

All of us started out green and with only 1,000 gp, at one time.

And we're still here.

That said, I mule and twink, because it is allowed. If it wasn't allowed, I'd still be here for the RP opportunities in the Forgotten Realms environment.

I don't need to be mechanically superior from Level 1, in order to have a good time.

I gotta agree with Cigar, I don't want level restrictions to return.

I've already a hell of a time crawling my way to higher levels on my build.

OMG, I cannot believe we opened this can of worms.

Medium RP server - muling allowed. Take this away, and I will be one of the first to consider just leaving.

What will happen? Some gifts are given to other chars who then gift it away to the right char etc. You cannot enforce it. Or just trade. Or do you want to take that away from us too?

You just inconvinience the transfering.

I think you're going to drive away players more if you prevent muling. We allow RCR, and so we should allow muling.

If you want stuff to make "IC sense" and that is your baseline argumentation, there are many, many other things to change before messing around with muling.

Whatever other arguments against it might be it's a plain fact that it can be enforced.
If char gives item to another char item still has on it ID of original account. The moment item gets to hand of another char from the same account it disappears. They have such system on Aeris. Sure it generates like 2 cases per year where items go from one char to another by normal means but it effectively blocks muling.

....The point is, why is it a big deal? All these arguments against it just seem like excuses to make the server more difficult. I find BG a satisfying challenge, and I don't agree that I have an easy time just because I grabbed some other non even OP, just kinda decent, items, that'll at least help me survive because not everyone is a steamroller. They're derpy arguments. Getting gear isn't hardly ever IC unless someone RP's giving you a gift. You're just buying something, so it not making IC sense is a weird argument.
