Might just lead to more aggressive behavior. People getting mass 'down-voted' and feeling like they can't contribute to the community. We all know those kinds of systems don't usually get used as intended. It's a running joke on reddit itself, "Upvote for Original Content!" *Reposts 2 week old meme*

There's a lot of reposting as is without it. This isn't the first of the threads on the subject.

It's an interesting idea, for sure. Just concerned about it becoming a tool to silence people that just want to voice an opinion. Not that little imaginary votes should influence us that much.

The "silencing" would be thresholds set by the forum users. A censorship feature exists already as a boolean in the Friends/Foe for phpBB3.

I think whole issue would be moot once we just institute a no whining complaining frowning and only hugs smiles and warm fuzzy feelings policy.

Boom! All problems solved. My point is that we simply must must must always be HAPPY all the time.

We fail otherwise.

I agree with chambordini. (my auto correct auto changed his name about 10 times...we need to censor his name).

We are discussing ways to better control and manipulate the open and unapologetic censorship on this forum.

I hate myself enough already for not disagreeing with the current censorship. Maybe just as the original poster requested...loosen up a bit.

I discussed the idea of upvoting/downvoting with some of the others in senior staff positions and none of us were really fans of it. So we're not going to pursue that route right now.

In the end, I'm personally convinced that most threads, even controversial ones, can stay open as long as nobody's polymorphing into a jerkosaurus rex. In my opinion, there's a distinct difference between disagreeing with someone (or with multiple someones for that matter) and with being disrespectful. You can do one without the other.

My kid likes space, sharks and 5 nights at Freddy's... somehow he never got in to dinosaurs, so I guess I'm uncool. :ugeek:

 Dinosaurs are awesome. End of discussion. Even bad dinosaurs are still awesome! Just like how even our naughtiest players are still beloved by me.

On subject, though, it's fine to disagree with people. But "feistiness" should be moderated to the level you'd exercise in any other mixed company setting. People have varying levels of tolerance for harmless teasing, veiled insults, and flat-out bullying, and there's fine lines between where one ends and another begins.
