Probably has to be the original Civilization. It's the only game I got so into that I wrote an Internet Strategy Guide.

In terms of hours played it would have to be NWN2. I really wish that there was an up to date replacement, but I don't think there ever will be - everything's moving to "in game purchase" (allegedly people are spending tens of thousands of dollars on some of these - I saw $150k quoted in an article yesterday!).

Some other games I really liked: Ultima Underworld, as mentioned by several others, UFO, Wizardry 7 and HOMM2 (both of those had fabulous sounds for the time). There's also TOEE, which was the closest a computer game has mechanically got to D&D - some epic fights in the Circle of Eight patch, Panzer General 2 and OFC BG1 & 2.

Dark Age of Camelot
Fallout 2
CS 1.6
Football Manager

If I had to pick one though, it would probably be Fallout 2.

It has some of the best memories from playing. My brothers and I would sit around watching each other play and helping to solve the problems. It holds a lot of value for me on many levels.

easily Planescape: Torment, followed closely by Fallout 1 (2 was silly, New Vegas is good).

Arcanum and then BG1 and 2 (2 is probably one of the greatest CRPG of all times). I did enjoy the IWD series. Gothic 1 and 2.

Morrowind was a good game but aged badly.

Settlers 2 was fantastic, the Patrician series, with 3 being a pinnacle still unreached for that kind of games IMO. The first Tropico, Caesar III and I'm sure I forgetting something but those are the ones I loved the most.

Throw in the LucasArt adventure games and I think I'm done!.

Modern games, Witcher 3 was a masterpiece, immersion-wise, the story was good, the combat a bit clunky but heh. The exploration was top notch. And Divinity: Original Sin 1 and 2 are a lot of fun.

Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines

Metal Gear Solid

Knights of the Old Republic II: the Sith Lords

Baldur's Gate deserves an honorary mention because it was my favorite as a teenager.

So many over the years.

MMO type games...

Ultima Online
Asheron's Call
Dark Age of Camelot

Multiplayer Games
Call of Duty Black Ops 2
Tribes
Rainbow Six
Neverwinter Night 1 and 2 - still playing this after what? 8 years?

Single Player
All CIV games yes even Beyond
All Fallout Games, even tactics
Bulletstorm (awesome voice acting and combos)
Tachyon (Bruce Campbell... nuff said)
Vampire the Masquerade
Arcanum (steam + magic= awesomesauce)
KOTOR 1 and 2 and the one Jedi Knight Academy I think it was

Lots of games over the years, but these stick foremost in my mind.
