Something tells me that given this guy is unimportant, it might be possible to murder him via player plot. Is there an active assassin guild? Could be fun.

The NPCs I hate the most are the goddamn cave halflings. That damn dialogue.

That specific dialogue even makes a point of switching the responses around.

Gold penalty seems good for all levels, not only 30 btw. Who told that your dead corpse can't be looted by someone?
Looting corpses brings up way too many moving parts to even consider right now. We don't want to encourage people to lure mobs into other players and get them killed do we? Yes I've had this happen already by wanton mischief makers.

So, those grinders would not be able to do much for a certain amount of time after a death, thus they would do the only thing left in game for them, RP. Or log off. But, the server is open even for those who do not enjoy RPing. It might encourage people to hang out in the cities and towns and maybe even get more evolved in plots.

Though, I am not against the loss of gold in addition to the above.
I wouldn't mind a temporary debuff but that might encourage logging off (not playing the game!) which as any game developer knows isn't what you want. I also don't think you should be forced to seek a priest after the fact but rather you should have got one before you died.
And mechanically forcing players to mingle isn't my cup of tea either. A little encouragement instead goes a long way I think.

You guys. The halfling quest is my favorite. It's the least loading screen slogging for the greatest reward. Granted I can practically do the dialogue from muscle memory at this point. I honestly do that quest and that quest only some weeks.

(disclaimer: haven't read the whole thread)

Overall, I think it’s very odd that up to level 30 death has quite severe penalties in terms of XP, and after that it has no impact what-so-ever. So, I do think this needs changing. It sounds like a number of people are averse to the solution of paying gold based on that it could be abused through muling. Therefore, I’d suggest the following:

When a level 30 character dies, they go to the fugue, where they get two options:
  • Take an experience hit and lose a level (not full level, they will be close to 30)
  • Pay a gold fee of X (not sure what is reasonable, say 20k maybe?)

delevel has exploits, this is why it is only done with DM Supervision. It is not really practical to use as a penalty for level 30 (or any level) death.

Ah, didn't realise that, makes sense.

Suppose the first option could just be a temporary (several hours) hefty debuff then, as others have eluded to. Main point was that there should be a penalty, and that there can be some player option on the type of penalty.

Well, there is also the option that if your Toon dies at level 30, it's actually dead. As in, dead. Like, dead dead. DEAD!!

Gotta pay the troll toll...

Make it so it records amount of coin on char on time of death and it expects a appropriate payment.

Oh, Hoihe. I wouldn't expect anything less from you. On BGTSCC, you have gone to such incredible lengths to stretch your Hoihe character beyond the basic fantasy of the Forgotten Realms, that combined with your often posted OOC "need" to "live" your Hoihe character in order to escape reality, for you, there shall never be the situation of Permadeath for your Character, for I can easily imagine you'd let this game actually affect you in real life, with possible extreme and pathological results.

Or, you're just chicken shit to let go. 8-)

I'll let go of the XP and gold and items any day. Not the character nor its established connections, be it beneficial or oppsing.

Of course you’d let go of gold and XP....those two things are both infinite and meaningless on BGTSCC!

Take a crapton of time to get. Time isn't infinite (unless you're a lich or something like that).
