I would imagine that would smell too, like rotten flesh, sulfurous, even if it was visually concealed. Would animals, nature aligned classes with high survival and Orcs with scent be anymore aware of the nature of Pale Master? Is there a DM ruling on this?

You imagine wrong.

Any corpse in rigor mortis (4-6 hours after death) has cadaverous flesh.

Cadaverous equals ghastly pale, and hard.

It's not rotten. Not sulfurous. Not smelly. The visual concealment is needed because it looks too pale to be natural.

nobody "fears" anyone here in this server. convo RP skill is largely ignored too, so that leaves you with only looks.
This attitude sounds like a good way to end up with a character death.

that is good chad.. seems like you do have some redeeming qualities :D

i know that cha is more than looks and i also remember comliness. good times.

i was expressing why many people choose to have cha reflect appearance. its easier. force of will is so much harder to project and depends on variables. unreliable and inconsistent variables.

this is the bottom line behind why i make a nice looking PM and try to piggy off anne rice's models. the hook for her depends on cha and PM at the same time. not looks either. just a roll most people do respect. that is perform.

I don't know if there's any DM ruling about it but I can't imagine the flesh being rotten, those guys still have noses and are alive, not undead :D

I think of it as some perpetually fresh cadaver, magically preserved in that state with an ever hardening skin.

cadaverous flesh to the point of mummification is intense dehydration of the cells. rotten would be somewhere else where hydration is still very present. dehydrated tissue would smell like the materials used to dehydrate the skin.

it also would not be stronger than normal skin. probably be more brittle. harder, but defiantly not more durable.

Ok, that makes sense I guess. I haven't spent any time with mummies, or learned of the process of creation. I did find this article:

Never thought I would learn so much, just playing a game before

Ok, so I have been going down the rabbit hole regarding Pale Master. I have been looking at PnP source material and how Obsidian instituted it, yada, yada....

My real interest is, if the PC is "practically" undead, does it pop up on Diviners/Undead Hunters and Naturists radars? PnP goes at it with Undead Armor, which becomes Bone Skin in NWN. That would allude to being much more concealable. Still, the Undead Graft and Deathless Mastery, wouldn't that offer clues a trained Diviner/Undead Hunter/Naturist?

The OP, I know was joking around about fraternizing with a Paladin but I would imagine that a Palemaster would in actuality, want to avoid other classes such as Paladins, Clerics, Druids, etc.... Am I off on this one, or is there some credence in what I am saying? I just wouldn't want this class to become a "wink wink", got my +6 NA bonus and now gonna lead a party of Radiant Heart Members.

They're not actually undead, no. It even says in the palemaster level 10 ability description. Their body becomes partially cadaverous, but they're still alive. They don't change creature type or lose their constitution score. They gain some of the immunities undeads have, but not all of them. Of course in PnP, they gain almost all of them.

So, there would be no supernatural, or magical way that another class would be alerted to the unnatural parts of the Pale Master?

Not that I know of.

I mean, if they hide it with magic rather than mundane make-up, it's going to be noticed with true seeing. But you can't see through a mask with magic either, you know.

Lol, there is no x-ray vision spell? Anyways, ok. I had always been interested in a Frost Mage Pale Master Build from a RP perspective but didn't think I could pull off the RP starting from the bottom, same way as it's tough to level a Gray Orc because of immediate conflict RP (which is why I always started my Orcs later). If anything, the Frost Mage ice skin would make for a great cover and then you wouldn't even need any incense!

the arm is not enough for detect undead to go off, its possessed by the palemaster after the graft so even it wouldnt really count any more than a prosthetic limb would

long sleeves and gloves go a long way for PM, perfume or some such as well
everyone is evil till proven otherwise
