It sounds like we might be more or less on the same page about that, after you clarified your position.
I think so, which is why in my original statement I did / do actually greatly prefer this be IC in town areas as well.

The disconnect is what you mentioned which was out of town the rules are 'different' so the situation is different. As an aside, I routinely interact IC with summoners in ways sort of like I described in my last post. I generally don't play summoners so I am usually the one doing the IC questioning / interacting. Most are pretty cool about it thus far. One sort of shrugged me off but I didn't press the issue.

I still think your reskin and/or buffing stats of lesser creatures would be better for verisimilitude but that is a topic for a different time methinks.

I don't particularly see a reskin of the creatures to be stronger but 'Not the powerful ones' lorewise would be needed or even desirable.

Summoners Summon things. That's what they do.

Indeed. Again, that makes sense for Planar Binding spells, where the summoned creatures are more or less compelled to obey the summoner. I may not like it, but it does make sense for arcane casters to be able to summon anything they wish.

But Planar Ally spells summon a willing creature. The issue is that some of these creatures would probably not be willing to hang around for what their summoners are doing. I am specifically referring to angels, which are mentioned in the Monster Manual 3.5. According to the Monster Manual, a bunch of the angel sub-types serve their deities directly, or only help powerful mortals on significant missions of good. It strains RP credulity, IMHO, for them to be just hanging around for campfire RP.

(I would say they shouldn't be used for grinding either, but you could easily make the argument that slaughtering droves of goblins could be considered a mission of significant good. So I'll leave that aside.)
Molly Longshot - Wheeee!
Sempo - Former butler, wandering priest
Mara - Paladin of Jergal
Tabby - Hedge witch, former bandit
Charraj Cain - Mystran. Dead.
DM Mister Rogers - It's such a good feeling to know that we're lifelong friends.
