I disagree with Ariella. BG is an rp-lite server at best. There's no required background, profile, no enforced rp or penalties for using ooc chat, you can even have mule characters in IC areas, you are not required to type complete sentences in RP speech, and so on.

It's completely valid to be upset over having to repeatedly RCR your character due to changes over the years. Justifying someone's departure by RP shaming them seems so cruel.

Though, not claiming to leave as an ultimatum, Ariella begged for a mechanical change for an "rp only" build anyways, so it's a bit hypocritical.

If you think my request to add a perform as a class skill for the sake of my role play, is the same as someone quitting over losing 8ab the point has gone right over your head. Also for the record it's a quality of life change, i have been playing the build for months before the request and still now after it. I am sure as well not leaving over it.

I am assuming you read my post at least twice as you quoted it but i feel like i have to underline a bit for you.

There are almost no builds that would have to RCR. You want to rcr because you want an optimal build at the peak of it's ability. The kind admins are giving you that option. None of these changes are to a point they actually stop you role playing, partying and enjoying most of the pve content. As for role play shaming? I have not said a bad word about his role play. If i am shaming anything, it's how childish this is. My eight year old also throws a tantrum when i take one of her toys away.

Ok fair enough Ariella. It was not a fair comparison, you're correct. My apologies.

Still, I do think you were a bit too blunt with the OP. BG is definitely a mix of mechanics and RP, it's not a hardcore RP server.

BG hasn't been a rp-lite server for many years now. There is tolerance in the non-rp activities, such as grinding and lootin as long as it doesn't break the rules

BG is far more roleplay and trending that way then it has been sense it’s start. Roleplay is the reason to play BG over the tons of other Dungeons and Dragons games, BioWare games, Bethesda games, blizzard games, Projekt and so forth.

You do not need to require complete sentences, and making it so does not make an rp server. People do not even talk in full sentences. No server that has been anti muling has stood the test of time in NWN2 and its terrible anti player to enforce no muling.

Pentlaties for using // (( )) or so forth to convey out of character is more arcane then the games engine. No server has survived with anti OOC rules and further do not make a good rp server. Who has had “zero” table talk at a paper and pen session?

Point is while I understand what you are saying. Nothing you listed is rules of any good roleplay server. In truth only the most aweful servers have ever had such strict rules and are now in the dust bin.

It would be nice to have required more roleplay things but how often does a background come up as long as you are playing to character? I can go into mad detail about the ideas of background to character influence and can shred the argument either way between styles.

What I do not understand is the complaints about rcr. You don’t want to do it? Don’t do it. I have read all the comments. All the concerns. Just don’t do it. Throw your protest flag up and do not rcr.

Can we start rcr now please and leave it a permanent feature :)
Sorry to burst your bubble but the largest, longest lived, and most populated server on NWN EE has all of those strict rules and more and they are growing exponentially with every year despite it. And while it really really pains me to say it... the rp there is sadly far superior to anything i have seen here, both in quantity and quality. :(

You can't really equate NWN1 PWs to NWN2. NWN1 will always be superior because its just easier for developers to build and modify it. Its also easier for people to run on their PCs. On top of that, you only need to download haks and tlks... most which are already had by using the CEP.

NWN1 PWs win in pretty much every area other than graphics (though I have yet to see if the EE changes this).

That said, staff does a really good job with this server considering its a NWN2 server.

I like the extra classes in nwn2 but in nwn1 the prcs can be taken past 10. I still like nwn2 more with the 3.5 rules. But yeah the nwn1ee servers are cool they get biiiiiiiiiig.

Nobody is forced to RCR, the only reasons you would be forced to RCR is:
1) You made an Illegal PC (Such as cleric with incorrect domains)
Note: not following 3b20 rule only gets you deleveled

2) There has been a Major change that now makes a PC Illegal/Unplayable/broke/missing feats.
Note: in this case the only change that would honestly get you a rebuild is Hieophant requiring 19 CHA/WiS the other chamges are simply spell effects.

3) You some how managed to corrupt your .bic and are now forced to reroll.

4) Your PC has gone threw an approved channel for a story ending with your Permadeath and as part of a reward you keep your XP
Note: Permadeath from metagaming guards gets your PC hung.

So as other have stated Unless your build become illegal you are not required to reroll in not for the change to Hieophant there would be no 100%RCR for everyone as rebuilds could be granted on a case by case if needed. A spell or feat effect change are not grounds for rebuilds. The staff COULD only grant rebuilds to illegal PCs and tell everyone else "oh well it's your toon take the lose if you dont like it" but this is a poor choice.

1) this would cause far more backlash over the nerfs.

2) DMs would be required to grant the rebuilds wasting their time from being able to run events or other things ((everyone knows they are already tying to interact more with players in a positive way))

3) a rebuild period allows players to clear their vaults of old or stale PCs and create new fun PCs which for a time increases server population and RP. ((More so when it's new content over nerfs))

Point is. This is a rare chance, enjoy it while you can and be thankful. The staff works hard on their volunteered time to bring to life ideas and stories. New spells made by players. Epic monsters and more. I only hope our server can grow more and I would love to see more people party up for a change.
