Hello Everyone

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am putting ink to parchment to address a few issues I have heard of lately and want to put to rest. These issues are brought to me by my staff and members of the Bladestone Foundation and Warrior's Rest on multiple occasions of late but never has anyone simply come to me to ask for clarification directly as the Headmaster.

1) The Bladestone Foundation is NOT part of, a subsidiary of, owned by, ruled by, controlled by, or influenced by the Whitewood Vanguard.

Yes, a member of the Vanguard currently owns part of the shares of the Bladestone Foundation and Warrior's Rest and the Vanguard members are often there.
They are there as paying patrons as is a lot of people. We see traffic ((NPC, DM vetted)) from multiple places and people such as the Merchant League and the local farmers and villages as well as Beregost. However, that does not make the Foundation part of, owned by, ruled by, or controlled by those individuals or groups. This is the same silliness that has been rotating through for years in regards to the Foundation for whatever reason. Last year we were supposedly owned or controlled by the Blackroses because some of them stayed in the inn. Before that, because we didn't immediately throw them out, it was the Black Abby or the Zhentarim. Before that, we were supposed to be an extension of Candlekeep and an expanding militant arm of the Library. Prior to that we were a Ducal Military Outpost there to impose Baldurian rule upon the surrounding land.

None of this has been true, clearly, as they are all rather mutually exclusive. Neither is this nonsense true. The Bladestone is controlled by exactly one thing:
The Bladestone.

If another group wishes to pay to use our facilities as are publicly advertised, that is there prerogative. It does not make us "owned" by them simply because another faction visits regularly or has shared membership. That would be like saying because members of the Radiant Heart and Darkhold have had many non-violent conversations and co-habitations of the campfire on the road by Baldur's Gate, they are clearly one in the same. Further, how common is it for people to be members of more than one organization? This does not put one organization under the thumb of the other simply because someone participates in both. The Radiant Heart and Doron Amar have like members in leadership positions. Does this mean the Heart controls Doron Amar or visa versa? Of course not. Neither is this the case here.

2) We are not a militia or a mercenary company. We are a school and an inn and a trade post.

Do we have guards? Yes. We live and exist quite a ((ICly anyways, not map wise)) ways away from anywhere in a dangerous part of the Coast. Do we have patrols in the area? Yes. Part of our goal since establishment has been betterment of local community. To that end we have had several outreaches to local farms and towns such as Blueglade and South Pine ((npc towns, DM vetted and evented)). Our patrols through "no man's land" are to discourage bandit activity and make the area safer for travel for people coming to or from the area. Recently, some of our guards are taking part in helping guard caravans of refugees from the war in the North's hotter combat areas to further south away from the fighting. Are they in our "sphere of influence"? Not typically, but they are innocent people who are caught in a dangerous situation, and our people helping a community at large an in need. In the same way we also brought food into Baldur's Gate during the last year's winter famine, and the city is clearly not in our sphere of influence either.

3) We are not an exclusive club.

We welcome pretty much anyone outside of a few exclusions. All that is required or requested is follow the few very simple rules when in the property, which are clearly posted. All are welcome to come, train, enjoy a drink, whatever per the services listed at the school and inn.

4) We ARE a school, inn, and trade post.

The Foundation in the last few years has worked hard to become a community center for the "no man's land" area it is based on. We have partnered some with the Rocky Creek for a fully staffed trade station for the locals and any travelling merchant. We offer short term and long term classes in combat, combat theory, weaponry, and are working on adding some magics to that list as well. We have a fully staffed inn with couches, a hearth, plenty of seating, and a bardic stage. We have a variety of rooms for rent for long and short term, as well as other facilities that can be rented for events and meetings such as the arena and conference meeting room. We have an expansive menu of food and drink and very few rules.

I hope this puts to rest the majority of questions and rumors about what the Bladestone Foundation and the Warrior's Rest are and are not.

If you have any questions about these sorts of things, bring them to me, either in person or via letter dropped off at the Foundation ((PM)). Please stop accusing my people of being something they are not or telling them the Foundation is "clearly" doing something it isn't.

-Derik Ranloss, Headmaster, Bladestone Foundation
OOC: Honestly, yes, please if you have any ic or ooc questions about the BSF, please ping me on discord or send me a PM. This sort of thing has been going on and off for like 2 years now. I know some of it is IC driven and that's fine, but some of it isn't, and I'll be happy to clear it up either way.

An Announcement is posted:
It is with bittersweet feelings that I make these two announcements today.

The first announcement is that the Bladestone Foundation is expanding its curriculum! With the addition of new positions within the Foundation, we are happy to present now classes for magically enhanced combat. These will include, but are not limited to, defensive tactics and offensive tactics for casters, as well as use of items and how to combat magics for non-casters. While the Foundation is not becoming a "Mage Guild", it is felt that expansion of how to fight with and against magics in our lands was a long-overdue addition. Contact Niyressa Dawncrow for more information!

The second announcement is far sadder. Our most recent Proprietor of the Warrior's Rest, Michael Dunn, is no longer with the Foundation. In a decision to show solidarity and help quell continuing rumors that the Foundation is controlled by exterior parties, Mr. Dunn relinquished his partial ownership of the compound.
Sadly, he also decided his tenure with the Foundation and the Rest is at an end so he could more properly focus on his efforts with the Whitewood Vanguard and their expanding business opportunities. The Foundation wishes him and his well and success in their ventures, may Strength in Battle be yours.

In response to the falling skies and the creatures that spring up from nowhere, Derik pulls in as many members of staff as he can find together in the main room of the Warrior's Rest.

"All manner of everything has gone to hell for no reason whatsoever. Lylan, take Dis and head out to check on the refugee caravans heading into the south bits of the Heartlands, take a couple extra guards with you. Adrian, take Aramon and a sweep of at least the closest villages and farms in No Man's Land, see if they need any help. See if you can get in touch with South Pine and Bluecrest too."

"Lu, can you coordinate with the infirmary to set up extra beds and such in some of the rooms in case we get wounded from trade caravans in?"

"Fir, I'm going to need you to keep an eye out on the local wildlife, make sure nothing is getting crazy. Vrok, guards are going to be a little thin, so you're in charge of keeping the compound and immediate road bandit free..."

"I need to get to Ulgoth's and make sure the village is still standing..."

"Any questions?"

Aramon nods firmly, grabbing his armor and once wearing it, moving to head out

"yes, what about Niy?" Lylan asks as she prepares her things and checks with Dis

"Niy... do... mage things." Derik replies to Lylan. "Vrok may need some back up on the immediate roads, and we're definitely going to need as many calming voices for the patrons as we can muster..."

Niy looks pretty freaked out as multiple of her spells fizzled out or done completely random things, from light through Sending to whatever else she decides to test "I can't fricking do mage things when it looks like the Weave has gone to sh...hell. Gods damn it, I don't know what's happening but this is like what happened with Karsus and Netheril...Derik, if something's happening to Mystra or the Weave, we are all f...screwed."

Looks seeing Niy so stressed Aramon sets a hand on her shoulder trying to be a bit reassuring...even if its not exactly working

Lylan grabs the mage by her hand and shakes her head "However screwed we are..." her gaze linegr on Niyressa then follow to the rest. Her voice is certain, her eyes quint determined "We will get through this. Together." she gives the room another look

The armored tiefling Aramon Nods firmly to Lily, smiling with a nod "Together. As we always will."

"Yeah, sure...just like when this happened last time and a whole, largest civilization on face of Toril crumbled and vanished, together...I am gonna do some more...tests, maybe I can manage to fire a Contact Plane and figure something out with that." Niyressa shakes her head a bit, and goes to gather more spellcasting materials

"Maybe. Maybe we are living through that time.. But by my heart and my blade. From the ashes of civilization, We will prevail." Lylan replies, giving Niy a hard look, though close. "Niy, your magic maybe unstable, but not your wits. This was always your greatest asset, and we all rely on it now." she looks around again
"As we all need to rely on each other. Give our best! The world is tearing apart Bladestones. Nothing but our best in this chaos, will suffice."

Adrian nods to Derik's words, and grabs his gear, preparing to head out with Aramon. At Lylan's words, he gives her a slight look, tilting his head a bit, before dismissing it with a private fond smirk on his lips.

"Whatever is h-happening, we see to o-ourselves first. Stay safe, w-work together, and support each other where n-needed. We are no good t-to the people all around us if we can't s-stay on top of this, by being the best we c-can be."

A quick hug is given to Lylan, and chaste kiss on the cheek. "Stay s-safe out there, my dear f-friend."

Then to the room at large, "All of you, s-stay safe out there."

Touching Aramon's shoulder on the way out, he leans in to add a few quiet instructions. "I'll need you t-to help me remember what h-happens when we're out there, and write it down w-when we return. Whatever is happening, we'll w-want to keep a record of it, so we c-can manage resources in this chaos."

A final look around the room, and a resolute nod to those there. "Tymora's Coin land in your f-favour, my friends. May she smile upon y-you all, and laugh at those whom might s-seek us harm."

With that he pushes outside. Helmet donned, and cloaked twirled around his shoulders to complete the uniform, and clearly signal his allegiance, and give locals a beacon to follow, should they recognise the uniform. Twin kukris drawn, and held at the ready. Golden eyes glinting under the darkening sky.

Lylan's hand squeezes around . Her face focused, although her own fears reveal themselves in her tension and her pacing of her breaths

"People are panicked." Aramon states to the group. "Right now, it is easy to give into panic and fear. Stay strong, stay together, we will get through this no matter what. It is easy to surrender to fear and panic...so right now, draw on one another for strength and comfort. Be one another's anchor and lean on the other. We Will make our way through this." Words finished, he hugs Lily once more to reassure her as well, before heading to follow Adrian

Before they leave Lylan will run to each, and hug them close and warm to Adrian, lingering a moment to his golden eyes "I will see you when I return. We still have that talk. I need you to promise me Adrian. We are going to have it."

To Aramon, a firm grasp at the back of his neck, supportive "You better keep safe, now. Aramon Summerheart. Make me proud." and taking a step back "Be vigil. Strike true. Come home."

Aramon smiles softly at her words Always hugged her tight "Duty binds, now and forever" bows his head

Niyressa steals a quick kiss from Lylan when the elf goes to hug her, uttering quietly "Just...be careful please. If the amulets work at all, just get me if you need anything."

"I p-promise, Lylan. I'll hold you t-to the same." A small nod, and fond resolute set to Adrian's eyes as they linger on hers, and he heads out with Aramon.

Lylan grabs Niy by her lower back, the other at her shoulder, firm and supportive. Pulling her into a prolonged kiss, tilting Niy's back leaning forward. After the kiss, the Elf keeps holding her. Keeping their eyes together, for Lylan to say "You too. Be smart, and keep your cool, Niyressa Dawncrow-Syr'Asiryn. For you, I will be careful. And if they still work, yeah that goes back again." taking a breath looking at her she winks "I love you. And I promise, I'll be back to build our future. Keep this place safe, and fall behind Vrok if things get bad."

"Not at all religious and care free of any affairs gods and clergy related anything... " quips Dispira, the bitter Tiefling to such things has walls up around herself regarding it and seems... oddly causal about the events in her usual drinking bouts and smells a bit as if smoking Devilweed again recently in her spare time away from others. "Whelp. Find me later when you need me. I will get to preparing." Then sets off to find her things and what ever needed.

Tsukumo, with a resolute face, approaches the staff, addressing them with a short bow. "I am no part of your organization yet, but I wish to assist. Is there any place or task that needs doing?"

"You've been training with Lylan, yes?" Derik looks the woman over, then nods "Go with her, help the refugees."

"By your will." With another bow, she takes her leave, presumably to find Lily.

“Keep people calm, keep nasties away and out from the roads and the compound. Got it.” Vrok acknowledges, the formidable half-orc prepping herself to keep the immediate roads clear.

<pending bits from people who haven't replied to the group RP yet. :) >

All things set, Derik himself pulls up his hood, sets his shield, and draws his sword. As he stalks off into the darkness through the hills towards the beach, Warwake bursts to flames with a whispered phrase, and woe to the creature that crosses his path with hostility.

ooc bits:
All RP is edited in from the players who control their characters. We've got a couple people who are still pending so I will edit their stuff in when I get it.

Lucretia heard the destruction and panic outside and within the Bladestone Foundation building: animals stampeding across the hillside, adventurers swooping into the Warrior's Rest seeking shelter from the madness, gnolls howling. She moved between the school's infirmary and the kitchen, getting shaken customers a hot meal or a drink to soothe their nerves, and simultaneously helping the medics prepare for an even larger influx of patients and refugees. At a loss of where else to set up cots, she directed a few of the bouncers to put them in the arena for now.

Then the 'Sending' came from Firenzio. He sounded harried.

"There's a colony of frightened dire badgers running towards the Rest, I counted at least twenty-three. Get everyone inside if--" Her lover's voice echoing in her mind trailed off abruptly.

"Firenzio?" she thought. "Are you alright?"

But her reply was met with the psychological void of a 'Sending' not reaching its recipient.

He's fine, she convinced herself, he probably had to drop his locket to grab his hatchets out there... Even though that would not have feasibly explained why the 'Sending' failed.

With a spark of determination in her eyes, the barmaid shoved open the front door and called out to the people on the patio who wanted to watch the world end with drinks in hand. Black clouds swirled in the heavens. Flaming meteors rained down further along the Lion's Way, causing a forest fire. Lucretia stared at the billowing blaze in the distance, wondering to herself if the Earth Mother wept.

"Come inside, it's not safe out here," she said after several heartbeats to the curious rubberneckers. Her tone sounded more brusque than she intended.

The adventurers dawdled.

"I mean it. There's something bad coming. I just got a 'Sending'." Her voice, and expression fell on that last word.

The adventurers grumbled and filed inside.

"Reinhard will take good care of you," Lucretia said absently to them as she stepped onto the patio, tensed her jaw, and marched right through the gate in search of that impossible tiefling.

A sorceress of no small talent could handle a few angry badgers, right?

Having recieved his orders from Derik, and seeing the confusion and commotion abound, Firenzio wasted little to time before he made his preparations, filling his quiver with arrows, packing dry food for the road, filling his bag with the necessities to survive out in the wild.

The grey skinned Huntmaster soon came back down from his room, walking up to the gathering of Bladestone's members and wishing them well, detailling the road he will take

''Sky's not looking particularly fantastic, I'll check on the wildife, and bring back some supplies, better to have them and not need them than the reverse.''

He hadn't gonna far when sounds of wild animals, growls and cries, filled the air. The Tiefling hid, and observed. Dire badgers, a whole colony of them, charging at the beetles that normally plagued the local lands. He reached for his medallion of sending, and triggered the rune of command, speaking into it. The metal of his handy magical device grew warm under his grasp, warmer than normally, but given the situation, his attention was elsewhere.

''There's a colony of frightened dire badgers running towards the Rest, I counted at least twenty-three. Get everyone inside if you can. Check on Ruarg''

Unaware of the partial failure of his spell, and with the assumption that the spell worked, the ashen Tiefling pushed further into the wild, out to hunt and fill the Bladestone Foundation larder with fresh game.

Throughout the day, Niyressa can be seen bussying herself with a plethora of tasks. Finally putting on her uniform again after the late incidents and strapping her old, icy sword to her side, she starts touring the compound and it's closest environ. Checking for any magical, apocalyptic issues that might be arising. In between her rounds, she can also be seen carrying stacks of books every which way, few of which can be found scattered through diferent places opened on various topics concerning planes, Netheril, magic, divinity and more. A few times she can also be seen out back at the training ground, trying to smash up the dummy or very carefuly testing a few spells, reagents and other arcane tomfoolery.

During the several days of Lucretia's absence, her raven familiar remained in the Bladestone's premises and became increasingly agitated. Quite often, he'd decide to swoop out into the madness of the Coast. If he could not find an exit, he'd stubbornly squawk by a door or window until it was opened to facilitate his departure. After a couple hours, he would return, even more high-strung than before. And empty-handed (or empty-beaked.) There were minor acts of destruction wrought by distressed avian companion, such as divebombing at drinks to spill them, and pulling headpieces from hair to fling them at the ground. One pillow was shredded by the raven in an explosion of white down feathers.

Any attempt to communicate with the bird by ranger, druid, or telepathy, made the source of Reginald's anxiety apparent: he had no idea where his master was, and could not link with or locate her like usual, fearing her dead, or worse.

The all-encompassing shriek tore Adrian from his sleep. Honed and refined reflexes brought him from restful sleep to wide awake and alert in the span of two heartbeats. One he was fully asleep, the next he had thrown off the duvet covering him, and kipped up and out of bed to land in a ready crouch. Golden eyes darting all around, while ears strained to other sounds in the darkness.

With no immediate danger presenting itself in his room, he quickly donned his Bladestone uniform, though only the tunic part. His two favourite kukris — The Blacksouls — recovered with haste, and strapped to his waist. Thus armed and clothed, he ran out of his room. The sound of naked flesh slapping against wooden boards echoed behind him as bare feet carried him from room to room upstairs. The first room checked was the one he knew Lylan and Niyressa to occupy. Eventually, with each room checked and secured, he stepped down into the tavern proper.

From there it was only a few steps to reach the outside, and join others in staring up at the night-time skies. A curse muttered under his breath was carried away on a gust of wind, punctuated by a clenched jaw and grinding teeth, while fingers gripped his kukris so tightly the knuckles turned white, and the short hilts creaked under the strain. The devastation wrought on his colleagues and friends with magical aptitude, showing clearly in their expressions — or lack thereof — finally brought him out of his stupor.

With tears rolling down his cheeks, he headed back inside, and began barking out orders to the staff and guards present there.

"Mystra is no more!"
"We have friends, family, and colleagues who depend on us in this time of upheaval. We will not fail them."

"Wake everyone not with arcane talent. Take a moment together to come to terms with what has just happened. But I want you all on your feet, ready to aid those most affected by Mystra's passing."

"Set to it!"

Orders given, he sheathed his kukris, and stepped into the kitchen. Whatever the staff at hand needed from him, he'd provide — starting with something as basic as tea to help calm troubled souls and hearts.

Throughout the night, and well into morning, Adrian could be found helping staff do their utmost best to offer whatever meagre aid their could. Fully knowing that nothing he did would ever heal this particular wound.

Exhausted, and having had barely any time to himself, Adrian finally crawled into bed to sleep. It was only a few hours, however, before he made his appearance again. Eyes bloodshot from a mixture of sleep-deprivation and crying, he none-the-less set to work with helping wherever he could.

A new notice is pinned at a few well visible spaces around the inn:
With the seemingly ever increasing persecution of mages and recent news from Amn. Warrior's Rest and Bladestone foundation would like to reiterate that we are still happy to welcome and provide safe haven for any mages moving within the area. With that in mind however, and with the ongoing situation, we would like to make known a few rules, implemented for everyone's safety:

- All offensive magic is, until further notice, prohibited.
- All conjuration magic is, until further notice, prohibited.
- All defensive and beneficial magic should, until further notice, be only used when necessary to protect one self and other's from harm or loss of life.
- All of the above applies to not only spellcasters, but also magical items, including wands, scrolls, potions and trinkets.
- All of the above applies to both patrons and employees of Warrior's Rest / Bladestone Foundation, whenever they are present within the compound or it's immediate environs, however we recommend adhering to these rules in general.

Please know that these rules are not a sign of any sort of bitterness towards magic or magic users, but are implemented simply out of a safety concern, due to the unstable and chaotic way magic works at the moment.

Following the recent altercation south of Beregost yet north of Nashkel, the Bladestone Foundation patrols escort a group of 5 mages of various disciplines, some from Amn, some not, to the Warrior's Rest.

After some discussion, they are berthed under the policy established that the Rest and Foundation is a sanctuary, if at least temporary, for mages and magic users fleeing immediate persecution in the area.

((Thank you DM Ink and Winter and I think Autumn for the event! :) even if it went not how expected, or maybe because of it!))

Let it be known effective immediately members of the Green Enclave are now banned from entering any Foundation compound unescorted by senior staff. The exceptions to this are the Gensai known as Teris Ynarno and the elf Natariel.

This is in response to multiple threats of violence in various forms against Foundation personnel and property due to the Foundation's plan to build a small outpost consisting of a small dock with two small outbuildings nearby. The purpose of this outpost is to encourage local trade and economy as well as easy of travel for those of the community.

As the Enclave does not wish to assist the Foundation in making sure the planning and implementation of this project affects the local environment as little as possible, a goal the Foundation holds in high priority, the Foundation shall seek consultation from other druidic sources.

When at the Compound and not teaching or seeing to administrative duties, Derik Ranloss can be seen usually sitting alone at the couches by the fire or in one of the upper lounges.

He is almost universally staring off into the flames or into empty space while toying with a softly glowing amulet that attaches to his belt. The amulet doesn't look like much, simply beads on a leather string with copper leafing now starting to turn green with age. At the end of it is a small medallion of carved driftwood. He often is seen speaking to himself but only for a few moments at a time and never loud enough for anyone to hear.

When in such a state, he often only responds when approached and spoken too directly a few times to get his attention. Whatever he's seeing in the fire or empty space, or not seeing, certainly has his attention well.
