One thing that can be done is to IC treat every character claiming to have died trillions of times before as though they were joking or mentally ill.

I think All-Father's idea is the most sound of all presented here. Mix it with Shadowspinner's death magic solution and there you go.

It doesn't require any more finesse than that and everyone gets what they want.

Hello,
Let's take a moment to think about this...
BG exists on a plane where death does not have to be permanent for those that can afford the resurrection services and the bodies, or portions of the bodies are recovered.

For some (all PCs) death is not permanent at all. Some people may RP that their character was knocked out during the party wipe from a dungeon boss and then saved by a random npc patrol that happened to go into the dungeon and others may RP that their characters were sent back after death. Others may say their magical summons, shadows, or pets dragged them to safety whether through another plane or snuck them out.

Mechanically all of these (whom aren't retrieved by another PC and resurrected) lose xp and are sent back with all their equipment.

While there are quite a few more ways to RP these incidents let me ask you to consider what effect dying and then coming back with little consequence other than memory loss (xp loss) to a person (your character). Not even mentioning some ways they go down let us just focus on the lasting and varying results this would have on their psyche and decision making.

Would some people get used the cycle and even callous? Since people can mechanically get healed easily from nearly mortal wounds (1 hit point) during fights that occur more days than not in their little PC lives is it too far fetched revivals, resurrections and dead bodies are a common sight and thing?

I personally try not to place my comfy 2021 standards on the barbaric and chaotic society that is BG. I think to reports and sights I've seen of war-torn modern cities in the not-so-distant and how casualties have been left in public places while others around them struggled for ways to survive.

Is it really bad RP to consider the above that PCs actually realize they are in this cycle, especially those that are aware of other planes?

Please be considerate before slamming other people's 'RP'. You never know how far they've thought out what their character does and why. I can only speak for myself but I'm here to have fun and if you have fun with me that's even better.

Also, coming from roleplay intensive (RPI) MUDs that have permanent death (you roll a new character when that one is killed) death here is annoying but nothing compared to losing a character that I've been playing for years.

I don't think death should be removed. I think it is fine the way it is right now.

*Also, I just want to remind everyone I am not my character and he does a lot of things due to his stats. Have your character act as your character would.
