The loot randomizer works like this:
  • Devs place a bunch of waypoints for chests of an appropriate CR
  • Devs place a special object that specifies min & max number of chests for each CR, % chance of being trapped for each CR, min & max number of mimics for each CR, and mimic CR for each chest CR (defaults to the chest CR if none selected).
  • Devs manually place boss chests, magic strongboxes, and other chests which should not be randomized
  • Begin loop over CRs
  • Count the number of waypoints for this CR
  • Spawn between the minimum and maximum number of chests for this CR. (Equal chance for all numbers in the range, so if it's 3-5 chests, you get three 1/3rd of the time, four 1/3rd of the time, and five 1/3rd of the time.)
  • Spawn between the minimum and maximum number of mimics for this CR. If you run out of waypoints, no further mimics are spawned. (This should never happen, but the code is careful.)
  • End loop over CRs
There's a special mechanism by which you can mix the CRs of chests, but it's generally inadvisable to use this, since if you're mixing different CRs you usually have the lower CRs in easier parts of the area. (Just builder stuff.)

Mimics can't prevent chests from spawning, but if you randomized CR28 with a single waypoint and had 0-1 chests and 1 mimic, then there's a 50/50 chance that the chest would be a mimic every reset. (Since it can't be a mimic if there's already a chest there.) This sort of thing may or may not be happening in several places of BGTSCC at various CRs.

One caveat so far, that I've yet to think about : you won't be able to carry a PC corpse through another server, you'll have to raise them on the same server. Items with uses per day also see their uses reset on server transition but that's pretty minor.

Ooh oooh! Since we have more space for areas, can we get Tempus' Tears as a RP map with maybe some moderate thugs/undead on one side to thuggify like Greenest map does, where there's the safe RP areas and then the hunting area?

Does this mean we should be screenshotting our items in case of something going wrong?

I’ve been grinding the Graypeaks eight times now, and though I’ve seen less-than-eight chests every time—8 chests being what existed before the rebalance—I’ve never encountered one single Mimic during those eight visits, so far.

Then again, I also haven’t looted an Epic Item equal to any Epic NPC Merchant yet, either.

The server transitions are roughly north of the Chionthar. They're specifically at the following points, going from West to East geographically :
  • Roaringshore - Fields of the Dead
  • Farmlands North - Fields of the Dead
  • Farmlands East - Thundar's Ride
  • East Chionthar - North Tradeway
  • Uldoon's trail - Reaching Woods
  • Durlag's tower - Searing caverns

This would be more of a question for the DMs as I can't offer any item refunds personally. That being said there shouldn't be any reason items will be lost, but better safe than sorry right?

This is a great idea! The new treasure system seems way more intuitive and rational than the old one. Thanks!

I have seen mimics in other areas, sometimes two at a time in Serpent hills acouple times and few times in other places, not in Greypeak though either yet.
I usually have a horrible luck on loot, like truly horrible, half of what other PCs in my group get, that being said, I did find an Amulet of Tears in Greypeaks two days back (+4AC and extras) which is sold at Beregost epic trinket merchant at some 400k I believe.

All in all, it feels like on average (doing serpent hills, frost giants, greypeaks) I get same or less gold from adventure than I used to before the rebalance but I got a lucky find I suppose, which only happened once before (Epic Ninja Cowl) in three years on this character (lvl 30).

And yeah number of chests definitely varries, doesn't seem to spawn the same number.

Did you think about adding a fugue area on both sides of the servers?

I don't think the Graypeaks were given Mimics. Mimics tend to prefer caves and dark, musty environs.

This is basically what was changed. For epic areas, the likelihood of getting very, very good loot was dramatically increased, and the odds of getting lower-tier loot was reduced. The high variability means you probably don't notice most of the improvement, but you'll see "rare" events much more often. It might be a little too high, though. We'll see.

Yes, don't worry, you'll die and Myrkul will get his due.

FYI a first attempt was done, some new issues spotted (kinda expected) so thigns were rolled back until said issues are solved.
