Remind myself that we all need a magic license in Amn.

I am traveling to Crimmor in Amn, and intend safe passage through and back with extreme haste.

~ M'M
A tiefling woman, dark skin, red eyes, mentioned today that Doron Amar has a new leader. Or as she said not so new any longer. She said it to be Vanira. Whether that means councilor or replacing Syndreth I do not know. She did refer to her as a leader when she said they are a mixed bunch and having only had a civil conversation with their new leader.

10th of Eleasis, 1358

A copy of a report provided to us by Gaven and Marshall of the Church of the Triad.

Year 1358 Sixth of Eleasis, (August 7th, 2022)

Spoke with the Tiefling Lass today that we had freed from the Bounty Hunters a couple days ago. She informed me that the hunter group is called the Tethered Shackles, but the ones encountered are not the ones that actually captured her as they did not wear the uniform as she said. Instead she was passed off to the ones we saw by men armored like myself claiming themselves as Helmites and being from the Temple of Helm. Their armor to make note seemed to absorb her successfully casted spells. They spoke in Amnian but she had not heard what they said because of her sustained wounds by them, she also stated they were clever. She did not seem to believe they were Helmites as they claimed to take her to the Gallows for Justice but she was instead passed off to those we encountered.

She made suggestion to speak with a magus from Amn we may have better luck on knowing more of the Tethered Shackles and the spell absorbing armor. As I came to conclude myself the ones we encountered seem more like a shell, or pawns to these clever "Helmites". This is all she seemed to know.

Maraav will be seeking a side gig as the house magi of House Vale. He asked me about this and I approve of it, he said when it comes to which side he'll favor when it comes to jobs, it will be the Vanguard. I wish him well and it helps keep him busy while we sort out Nashkel.

~Captain Dunn
21 of Eleasis, 1358

Nashkel meeting

Present:
Mayor Ghastkill,
High Judicator Hieron Ampbel with two individuals
Baron Salzar Droamix (favors bards)
Baron Magnus Skaelung (firegiant)
Baron Hedger Alkaritz (armored from head to toe)
Baron Forvik Thankret (armored from head to toe)
Baroness Nevia Gellent
Baron Aramon Urcharik
Baroness Katarin Belcos (after money, any means)
Alexander Marshall
Gaven Arkalis
Watcher Wai Li
Sinoc Haven
Captain Michael Dunn
Fierlith Silverglade

- Arcane practitioners need to register and serve the government three months each years on assigned tasks. A contract is required with the Council of Six for Amnian-approved missions to fullfill the required services outside the government assigned ones. Those that refuse or attempt to escape such conscription are condemned to either exile or execution.

- Mages need to be alive when brought in and they will be checked. Exeption being if they have other bounties on them.

- The trade of magical items will remain unhampered unless the items in question possess considerable threat to the society and its people by large and, therefore, finds itself on the list of contrabanded magical items.

- Divine magic, as it comes from Gods themselves, remains perfectly legal and only restricted by the common laws everyone has to adhere to.

- There will, however, be no additional taxation nor donations to various faiths that do not promote trade or otherwise Amn's interests.

- Zhentarim is no enemy of Amn. They are mercantile competitors and their trade is banned from all lands of Amn. However, the Council of Six wishes to not spend any resources to mainaining an open hostility to Zhentil Keep and their agents.

- The Red Wizards of Thay in Amn have made contracts between their embassies and the Council of Six. As such, they are legitimised practitioners of Art.
23 Eleasis, 1358

Maraav said he could endure the three months if he has freedom to go about during that time and not be limited to Amn. Also would likely prefer a contract where he could serve along Vanguard. He also wanted to know more about the nature of the possible jobs.

4 Eleint, 1358

Meeting at Ducal Palace, Baldur's Gate

Present: Duke Belt, Lord Lyonaler, Derik Ranloss, Niyressa Dawncrow, Fierlith Silverglade

The meeting proceeded smoothly. There was a mention of Duke posters we have made. I am aware of Zhent related posters but do not know what that was referring to or was he, perhaps mixing things? There was also mention of a tiefling making jests of Smelton? Either way, when it came to payment, the Duke said thus: "Let me be open to you. I hold myself accountable to the council of four and I respect your Grace Duke Eltan. After the rumbles and encouragements on sedition against Baldur's Gate, I wouldn't be able to afford a payment to the Whitewood Vanguard." Derik paid it instead and the Duke said the contribution was well earned and thanked the Vanguard.

Reaction to the message was somewhat expected. The Captain's time with Ebon Blade was brought up by the Duke and echoed by Aaron saying the Captain has rejoined the Ebon Blades many times and remains unknown if he has truly even left them. Even then, Duke Belt was understanding, being once a mercenary himself and appreciated the words. He also promised a bottle of his personal brandy if he was wrong on his assessment and has to eat his words in the future about the Captain finding himself on whichever side of the coin the business partner throws at him. He would go as far as respecting the Captain, even go as far as saying he liked the man, if he got his mess together. Aaron also sends his regards on enjoying the entertainment of the letter.

A copy of a letter delivered to the Everwatch:
Dear Watcher Wai Li and our dear allies in the Everwatch Knights,

I write to you to deliver news, as you were, and remain, dear allies of mine and were the same in regards to the Whitewood Vanguard. As of the end of this tenday, indeed, the current aim is the 21st of Marpenoth, the Vanguard will complete one last job in the north on behalf of Baldur's Gate, against the undead threatening their city. At the completion of that job any remaining members will be dismissed, and the company dissolved.

With the war's completion in the north, and peace settled between the Zhentarim and Elturel. Several of the primary reasons for our first founding have been resolved, Corm Orp is free, Soubar is free of Zhentarim, and Bridgefort and its ruined bridge are also free of Zhentarim forces.

This victory over the Zhentarim, as well as other reasons, both professional, and personal, have lead to this decision. Throughout highs and lows you remained steadfast allies of ours and I cannot thank you enough in words. And so I will thank you as time and fate allows through action, by continuing to be an ally to you.

Whenever you have need of a hunter, tracker, burglar, or scout - I'll be there as often as I'm able and perform at my best. Thank you and your men and women of the Everwatch dearly for all you've done for, with, or by us.

Fair winds, and may the roads only ever be kind to you and yours,

~Michael Dunn
18th of Marpenoth, 1358

A copy of a letter delivered to Nathan Goldenmane:
Mercy Blade Nathan Goldenmane,

I write to you personally because as head of House Darius, particularly through ties with my former Lieutenant Mizzrym, you remained a strong ally of the Whitewood Vanguard.

The Vanguard moves north with its remaining resources to join the Flaming Fist in their front against the Fields of Dead, and the vile undeath that threaten the living therein. This will be the final job of the Whitewood Vanguard. After its completion and the task being done, assets will be donated to the Flaming Fist, and any remaining personnel dismissed or transferred to other employment south in Nashkel.

Should any outstanding debts remain between the Vanguard and House Darius, bring them to my attention and they will be handled promptly.

Otherwise, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for your aid, counsel, and standing by us through highs and lows.

If I might repay any of your kindness in the future, you need but ask and I will do my level best to abide your request.

Fair winds, and the kindest of roads to you and yours,

~Michael Dunn

The Green Enclave slew a spider that was an unknown threat to Cloakwood.

Watcher Wai Li is looking for people to combat bandits and devils. She may be gathering relics of Helmite background for the latter foe.

An additional layer of security, these reports.
-Dunn note on Ernest, the Doctor
A. Claims to be interested in Linetheil, the Seer's, wants and path.

B. Possibly devoted to Shar, but claims to serve no one diety, mentioned an organization of 'Primordials'

C. Will -not- be forthright with information if he knows I shared this information, use it very judiciously.

D. Could all be lies, to see if I do betray his trust and disseminate it.

E. Claims a third party, unknown who, hired him to see what our plans were for Soubar. The employer, as it was explained, seemed to fear we meant to bring Soubar under Duchal Law. I assured him we wanted its freedom, its fate for Mag and Captain Nightgale to decide.
F. Knows multiple languages and is a moderate sneak.
[+ "Thay,Enclave,Zhent,Circle" +] Thayan circle magic may play a bigger role in the Zhent engagement with Elturel, possibly with end-game machinations. Eyes were set to the war torn north, seals to portals a question of being jeopardized.

[+ "Ernest,Shar,Loross" +]
I'm fluent in the entire spoken and literary tree of Shar, Lorossi, and similarly forked Draconic languages. If he slips while present it'll confirm easily. There is another suspected Sharran in the region that I also monitor.

-Dunn note, Evelyn
A. She is going to subtley work with the common populace to rally support against the Zhentarim within Baldur's Gate.
B. As a show of faith, I provided her with copies of the letters we covered on the 10th of Mirtul, concerning the upcoming attack. Little risk, and she will appreciate the gesture. She knows to keep it quiet.

-Dunn note, Merorry
A. She is extremely interested in our future plans concerning a free Corm Orp, to the point she may actually join us officially.
-Dunn note, Freya
A. She is welcome with us on patrols.
B. Current answer for her joining the Vanguard? No - too many suspicious associations and antagonizing incidents. If she changes, answer can become yes, but right now is no.
C. She may be a loose asset on the battlefield.
-Dunn note, the Traveller

A. Mentioned by Harpina, a Pheonix Company agent, to the Blackrose clan

B. Unknown entity, unknown intentions
30th of Mirtul, 1356
A hundred and fifty bags for three balistas from Darius. We'll need a third party to dock a ship and pull the hardware to not raise suspicion.
5th of Whateverthismonthis, 1356
We'll plan to run recon and set up forts, barricades ahead of Hellrider advancement, and provision with siege equipment. Nothing says fast troop movement like a highly resourceful support.

6th of Kythorn, 1356
Build fortifications for hellriders. Have them take control of the fort with the ballistas in them. Lure the Zhents out using hobgoblin uprising as bait only to run into those forts.
Eighth of Kythorn in the year 1356,

Marietta and Bob showed up at the East Gate Fire claiming that they knew of Amelia Blackrose's dealings, on her sending of an Arcane Assassin to make a deal is my understanding with the Dhaerow in the Underdark and finding information upon them both. As well with her deal making with the Dwarves of Kraak Helzaak who stand with Elturel, against the Zhentarim, on my arrival I had heard Bhor telling her that his King will send to her if he choose to, Amelia was either truthful or played at not having the knowledge Bob and Marietta claimed. I cannot fully say myself, but the men beside her Hanner and a male bearing a tower shield, helm, black bear fur cloak and in plate armor one who is often in her company, were murmuring to her. Perhaps filling her in or pondering elsewise I do not know. MArietta and Bob stated they know and teleported away. I fear with the company in place I did not get to trace it.

Also, Hanner spoke to Althalous in soft whisper that I could not hear, but Tashia asked upon it and was informed that Hanner wanted information on anything he can get his hands on as I overheard of him.
Kythorn 6th, 1356,
Met with my contracted informant whose task is to monitor Laura. Progress is underway in being able to name all her associates and favored stomping grounds. This was conducted in the Gnoll cave of the Way of the Lion. His total contracted value is now 45 bags.
Kythorn 11th, 1356
Zhent skymages will be unchallenged for much of our attempts on caravans unless we fetch something that can one, prevent us from being detected, two, pull them out of the sky, three, out range them as their spells are considerably far accessible.

Preparing notes to work with a new potential agent of the name Jassin who has yet to be approached but is known for his hatred for the Zhent and his ability of stealth. He has no tolerance for childishness, will only be contracted at best, but is known to keep his mouth shut on missions and jobs at hand. He is a resident of Doron Amar but has no love for the administration and isn't afraid to speak his mind. It is best to remain neutral and task focused when he is involved as to not lose his support.

Kythorn 16th, 1356
Talked with Drego some more. Will be putting skiffs to the waters in his care, with dud equipment as the decoy if / when we head East.

Cinnamon also wants to create a 'monster' nation state, potentially either in Elysium or Ulgoth's island. I'm convinced she's entirely stupid. She wants Drego to help her.
Eighteenth of Kythorn in the year 1356,

Whether this is false or elsewise I still thought it better to have notice by us all. Hanner whether his words be true or false, had inquired about a Zhent contract we had accepted. Obvious false information as I told him, as he already knows what we do so his query was absurd. But after V'et's departure and riling of the man he made note to quietly inform me that he had pulled his own informant out and that two remained, supposedly. One of the Zhentarim and one of the Eye, he of course without goodly nature held contract to not tell me who, a shame to say the least but not unexpected.

One other notation, I cannot set my eyes upon him if he moves within shadow as he demonstrated earlier though I am uncertain if he caught on that I was unable.
Uktar 3, 1357
Ytarya slid whispered inquiry to Nalissa of 'to the trees or the walls?' Nalissa's response was "-krk krakrccr krkrcrakkc, g-gskigkr krckc ckskkckrcr hhskk-cr" Language to be identified and further prepared for next encounter.
Uktar 5, 1357
Ser Amos of House Blackrose is looking for mercenaries for at least two causes.
1. A threat of bugbears to the area of Thundar's Ride. Their leader is a magi, and House Blackrose had previously cornered them at their stronghold, but lacked the manpower to follow through with ending them.

2. They also wish to build fortifications in the area of the Tradway, along the river Chionthar that we, and so many others had set eyes on.

For the latter job, their needs would include escort and protection.

No commitment will be made without your input Mizzrym. And it may be best to wait til we've met with Elturel and heard what they have to say.

House Blackrose does have access to lumber, and a sawmill, which could give us access to the same as payment for the above work, should we accept.
Any contract taken with Blackrose could keep them from Zhentarim influence, which they currently have a neutral stance toward. If we do not work for them, it doens't mean they'll go straight to the Zhentarim instead, but its a possibility.
Amended note by Mizzrym : "I've personally witnessed Amos' cozying to any that would receive him, from the Halls of Inner Light to members of the Black Abbey. It is best we do not conduct business in league with him and his and any word spoken in his presence will be carried to nefarious actors both within the Gate as well as beyond its walls."

Overheard Nathan telling some Captain of a ship woman that he has some leftover Ballistaes from the recent War if it is of interest to you all.

-T
Uktar 7, 1357

Traegun informed that a woman named Ashenie, one I noticed from the Temple of Ilmater when she walked in, and a male of knightly standing bearing a holy symbol of the Triad, brown hair, green eyes, half mask on his features, hair is unkempt. Other than drawing this guy up that is the best that can be given. These two were overheard by Traegan speaking of the Vanguard. The woman gave words of positivity but it seems the Triadic knight is wary.

-T
Dunn adds a signed note,

Probably Alexander of Torm. He's a good man but we're inevitably not going to operate to his standards.
Amended note : Alexander sought my services to end the Orc 'Shamble' and I refused on the basis that he concern the matter personally given his defeat to the Orc.
Uktar 7, 1357

Dalian and Derien are now assigned roles to see to the engineering and fitting of the ballistae to skiffs. Dalian is to provide cartographic updates along the Winding as well as Chionthar, and all mooring points along the Chionthar wherein plans of sabotage will surface.
Uktar 7, 1357

Traegan is assigned with preparing for the assassination of the orc Shamble. He is also to act as ranged bodyguard for Vanguard engineers, as well as preparing for response to potential infiltrators and spies.
Uktar 8, 1357

I just write down interesting tidbits, least what I believe to be interesting for you more savvy sort. There's a woman not sure I have heard her name yet but I do know she has a ship built or being built and Captain's it. Overheard her speaking with a knightly sort of Torm, seems she is inquiring about a former paladin. But they departed to speak privately at least moved away enough to notice obvious eavesdroppers.

Update: She was looking into a one named Arkaine
Dunn note:. Captain Desrah Asher, long history

Flint came up in conversation at the Lyre, seems he's a previous lover of Carah and was dropping that he is part of the Black Network at the Campfire recently.

Observed Marietta, Bob, tiefling Dyspera, Phoenix Nalissa Colds, Bladestone Derick, Bandits Barry, in casual company of a female drow identified previously as being one affiliated with Sshamath Quellar. An unknown male near Bob and Marie spoke of capturing and harm of an individual bearing mark of three thunders.

Jane was accepted by Netanya as her apprentice, i will look into the rumors of her "Evil ways" and possible connection of her house estate with the winter queen Aurill.
Dunn note: Please also watch for signs they're providing aid to the Zhentarim
13Uktar, 1357

Meeting with Bhor about the siege weapons was not as productive as imagined, but some progress was made. Bhor wishes to know more details about the structure of the weapons so he can prepare the adamantine needed, a new meeting will be held soon in his Kingdom once we have the proper design of the weapon we seek, Derien should seek Micar soon enough about it. Also it was suggested the use of runes to further enhance the power of the balistas.
] I asked him about a possible trade route or a simple exchange of stones used for build structures and he pointed out that the kingdom is neutral about it and fear that black network may see it as a possible act of war.

12 Uktar, 1357

Various external sources are being called upon to maintain teleport circles for the Vanguard's purposes, these individuals are by design to appear innocuous and be aware of only the requests they are specifically assigned and timed to in order to prevent overlap though assuring that contingencies are well established. The first of these is Sirion, trusted to ensure our resource corridor movements from Kraak Helzaak out to safe harbors in Darius' list of warehouses.
14 Uktar, 1357

Stumbled upon an Elven woman bearing ink depicting natural disasters of all sorts and a faded cloak bearing the Talassan Symbol upon it. This Elf, Ytara by name, was in company of Nalissa Colds, a Fire Genasi, and another Elf named Riven as he gave it. Ytarya mentioned to me she was apart of the Anachaine Circle, she spoke that the Circle was new and that their duties though vague were patrolling, wandering, watching for danger, blights, or fires and other odd things. In hindsight I should have brought the recent fire up to see if she had a hand in it as she bears favor to Talos by her clothing and ink on her flesh. Perhaps next I can or ask Nalissa the same as they seemed quite close.

-T
24 Uktar, 1357

Met with a contact who advised that an unknown third party, I suspect the Thieves Guild, wants everyone to stop meddling in the Harbor. In exchange, they are willing to broker giving up Rennec's location.

Waiting to hear back from contact on validity of the offer. Mizzrym, we should discuss what we want our stance to be - acceptance, and backing off, or denial, and pushing forward on our own.
Twenty Seventh of Uktar, 1357

I wasn't entirely sure if this was secret but I spoke with Runa, a Druid of Eldath on any progress concerning that fire of the wood. She said the source is still at large but the Trees have been regrown and that sapling of the Druids grows stronger.

-T
28th Uktar, 1357

Dunn has tasked Syndreth with figuring out the Zhentarim rank structure, for future use in disguising and blending into the enemy.
30th Uktar, 1357

Dunn has tasked Shaeth with developing ways to set off smokepowder bombs with pressure triggers. Both to be deployed on the roads, and be set off by passing soldiers or wagons, and to be used to arm the bodies of fallen Zhentarim.
Thirtieth of Uktar, 1357

Encountered a Morgalia Verenach, former Dreadlady of Darkhold. Seems to have designs on joining the Mystran Church and seems close with Sirion an Elf of the Mystran Church.

Thirtieth of Uktar, 1357

Sat with Doan, Ophelia and Deselara. Asked them what they thought of the Vanguard so far. Deselara says she likes it, inquired about a building of our own. Ophelia was surprised by the political convictions of the Vanguard. With the determination to make enemies of the Zhents she thought it interesting a Merc Company held investment towards it. Doan says he likes it and thinks there's a lot of danger.

I tasked Ophelia, for now, with setting up a Vanguard shop to sell off any salvage we find to put funds towards the Vanguard. It's also a good way to get faces, names, and such to our cause.

Seems Deselara was a courtesan, says she took "lovers" for other agendas...though stated she now takes them only for her own but right. I've no idea if this shite is important, But I won't be the only one to know!

-T
Second of Nightal, 1357

Meeting with Bhor concluded at Kraak Helzak was productive in at least moving the gears further. The concept of a false flag was privately discussed in secrecy with him, as a cache of stolen Zhentarim goods destined elsewhere would be reclimated by a caravan, moved into fashioned Waterdeep and Kraak Helzaak insignia branded crates, and the Kraak caravan beset upon by Zhentarim garbed forces. The news of which to be sent for Duchal review, as well as public decry against Darkhold attempting aggression against an ally of the Gate during a time of scarce resource, putting Darkhold on display as hungrily opportunistic. Bhor will consider this for a time.

- M'M
Second of Nightal, 1357

Rennek's identity, location, is known by Nathan. He informs that he will likely hire the Vanguard to address it. Skiffs are unlikely to be built and will wait until spring, as it is anticipated the rivers will entirely freeze. A potential job is being made available by the end of the tenday regarding Batibat, more details will come when available though not at this time. "Shouldn't be any gods pissed off by whatever happens this time." It is recommended that we handle the affair of inner-city oration of anti Zhentarim propaganda directly rather than to use Rhaeg. Rhaeg's vocalization of killing the Dukes is something we may want to distance ourselves from.
Second of Nightal, 1357

Cease all mention of Batibat and the Undercity, if any subject of it comes up which requires our input deflect the commentary until further notice.

Second of Nightal, 1357

Alyssia has advised the court that House Darius is responsible for the problem that is Batibat, as well as that House Darius should hold the responsibility of resolving said issue.

Nathan's words were "Her brain, dear, unfortunately, seems to be as smooth and wrinkle-free as her tits."

I concur.
Sixth of Nightal, 1357

Communicated the urgency of training against Batibat without making it clear that is our present agenda. House Darius advised that in the coming days we will be requested to address her at a potential venue that she may or may not make an appearance at.
Tenth of Nightal, 1357

Jenny informed me that Wulfrik, a follower of Hoar as known, is keeping an eye on Michael. Stating he needs to repent for his past sins and I am told he is written in his ledger. These transgressions have not been brought to my attention, nor have I been called by Hoar or one who seeks revenge upon the Captain. I have not seen or heard these sins, but what I wonder is why he stays his hand if he is aware and there is justice to be meted. I will look into it further, and see to justice passed.

Twelfth of Nightall, 1357

Overheard a Genasi of Rocky Creek speaking with some elven male as I could tell. Exchange was brief but they were speaking about Mirroshade of the Friendly Arm Inn making a deal with the Flaming Fist. He did not go into further detail on that but followed up with that the Druids are saying the forests cannot be controlled because of all that, my assumption of that is what had transpired with the fort, etc. The Genasi believes it may mean war, the elf made mention that someone he had spoken with made claim the Druids were being less than smart over something. Unfortunately I had not heard more as the caravan was heading out.

Fourteenth of Nightal, 1357

Ran across that Lam lady that Derik seems to know as well as Syndreth outside the Warrior's Rest, she was in the company of a Maraav an Arcanist as he claimed. His familiar named Vron a Raven. Syndreth states she is an information broker, though the connections with Maraav are unknown at this time.
Amendment ~ Witnessed Maraav loitering within the Balduran Cemetary with his familiar earlier this day.
Twenty-Fourth of Nightal, 1357

Syndreth talked with Michael concerning Kethelis and the Drow, though Michael seems aware already there is something infernal inside the Drow, that is said to attempt to come out if she is threatened. As for Kethelis, Syndreth informed that he has been banned from Doron Amar, he remains in the Drow's presence in order to redeem her and spy. It seems there is trade with the Underdark concerning purple crystals that harbor souls, especially with the House of Spades, and is a closely guarded secret with Edelgarde so much so that Syndreth asks it not be brought up before Eldegarde as she had not heard it from anyone else. These crystals are also made in some ritual being done in Sshamath.

Michael may add more.

Deselara's former lover, Aiyda, has attemtped to use Deselara as a mole within the Vanguard. Aidya is a information broker under Netanya and part of House Divine. Not an overtly hostile act on their part, but something to keep note of.
Addition to

Aiyda has come on to me, this was some days ago now and had asked sought time again later. I am not sure it was to seek knowledge or not as they were unaware that I was apart of the Vanguard until it was stated for they were leading up to asking me to join them, Netanya had arrived a bit prior as she was the one asking about my time and return and all that general conversation people do. Is this something to keep close and tabs on?
