Not a critique but some praise - she's very nice to RP with, especially with a character who tends to be snarky as Millie is far too sweet to be unkind to. Especially refreshing is the believable self-doubt.Rakosi wrote:Any critique for my character Millie Reus? Trying to be original with this one!
Similarly, is Amara a believable spoilt bee-hatch? She's a bit Mary Suish otherwise, being so clever and witty, so I'm trying to keep her obnoxiousness on the realistic side so people don't think she's actually evil.
Characters
Amara Calder - Returned to Waterdeep
Elanatha Ariavel - Passed away quietly on the voyage to Evermeet
Maire Whitecrest - Untaken of Umberlee

Thanks.
I'm trying to lean Millie towards being innocent rather than sickly sweet and too polite to show she understands innuendos rather than unrealistically naive.
First time I met Amara I figured her for a Merchant, or something else to do with Waukeen, so you did well getting that kind of feeling across; very worldly, but as you said she doesn't have that incorrigible endless witty banter thing going on, so very easy to relate to as a serious character also.

I cannot believe I have been here several months and never seen this thread before. It would seem the forum skills are lacking in this one. Anyway, it would be my honor to be a part of this group of self evaluating RP'ers if at all possible. Any and all criticism is welcome. I really only have one character that I play with any intensity and that is Wesley Forrell though known only as the Copper Fox.

Critique for Alianne Jerizk? All the criticism you can muster, c'mon! You can PM it to someone else to post for your anonymity if I intimidate you. (I'm scary, I know. It's my thing.)
Edit: She's dead, so I guess feedback would help with my other characters, but isn't so pressing anymore.

Re: RP-Critique/Support/Self Monitoring Club
Greetings all,
So getting up there with my character, Kaikinnion Feystar, but before I get any higher, I'd like to ask for a RP critique for those I RP with (mostly elves), preferably via PM. An honest, brutal critique. Some things to think about?
Do I RP an Elf "correctly?"
Do I RP a Cleric "correctly?"
Do I RP an Elven Cleric of Corellon Larethian "correctly?" Considering who Corellon is.
Am I too little or not enough "pro-elf?"
If you do decide to send me a critique, I'd like to thank you for your time
R,
Kai

I'd love to receive some feedback on my character (Llewellyn) and my roleplay ability overall!
Here or via PM. As with everyone else, don't pull your punches!

Yeesh WIS6 AND CHA6? A very unwise minion/meatshield with the personality/attractiveness of paint drying... That sort of IS a zerging newb IC, sounds like you're doing fine!silverwyrm wrote:Hey guys, I have an issue RP'ing my character. Problem is I often find myself at a lack of RP due to the type of character I play. I feel like other people probably perceive me as a zerging newb who does not understand RP, really my character just has nothing he wants to say. So how do you think I could interact more and have RP relationships with other players with out changing the concepts behind my character?
I play Brock, a neutral fighter with no prestige class plans just picking feats i find most useful on the spot. Brock is an earth genasai with a wisdom & charisma of 6.
I Try to portray the gruesome, grim, quiet, solitary and socially awkward type for the CHA.
Making poor choices and being completely oblivious of most situations for WIS.
Brock is a mercenary who worships Tempus, he loves battle and that is how he makes his living. Rarely does Brock speak, he communicates through body language. The only thing I've thought of for his history is that his mother died giving birth and he grew up on a farm with his father who was not the greatest role model before he started getting in fights with locals and took off on his own.
Would get rather dull fast eventually, and he wouldn't have many friends other than people that wanted to use his muscle once in a while, but if you RP him craftily it could be entertaining, for a while at least...
What's a guy that has WIS6 to be grim about? It's not like he's going to be mulling philosophically over how the world is a broken place full of sorrow; he might feel twinges of emotion about his life/past but he'd probably get over it fast as soon as shinies or a turkey leg were within sight.
The trick with low stats and min/max PCs, of course, is too many people do not want to RP them consistently when something is at stake; i.e. at critical moments the low WIS PC consistently makes sensible choices, the low INT PC suddenly becomes an accountant when haggling for that nifty magic item another PC is offering for trade, etc. effectively godmodding their PC so they have no disadvantages for dumping stats and gaining artificially high scores in other stats.
Grinding sucks, RP while adventuring makes it much more tolerable.

I'm always open to opinions, observations, and thoughts on my characters. I just noticed I never posted here though..
If any of you have interacted with Zahven Thruel, please let me know what sort of vibe you've received from the interactions? He is mostly a fairly stoic and unexpressive sort, so I wonder how that comes through IC.

Re: RP-Critique/Support/Self Monitoring Club
My general advice for stoic/silent/grim characters is to use emotes generously. While you may not talk, you could emote your character's stance, minor actions, fighting style, reactions more than one usually does, in order to balance the lack of speech.ithildur wrote:Yeesh WIS6 AND CHA6? Unfortunately I can't point you to them, but Ambrose's Thayan Knight and Imperax, alongside Dmitri Val-naar and the other Val-naar were very good examples of such. Alongside Karl, of course.

Re: RP-Critique/Support/Self Monitoring Club
Hi, I'm very new here (just started last week) and this is my first real RP experience. I only play a TN half-elf Rogue right now named Gull. He grew up in Luskan with his mother and four sisters and often had to steal food and gold to keep his family fed and his sisters from turning to unsavory means. He was caught stealing but managed to escape Luskan into exile along the Sword Coast. He often tries to adventure (or pickpocket upper class citizens) to gain some coin to send back to his family, though does not like putting himself in direct danger and prefers to con or sweet talk other adventurers into taking on the brunt of the risk when dungeon delving.
As I said, I'm very new to this so any criticism would be very welcome! I've wanted to RP in Forgotten Realms for a long time now and finally found a good medium for it.

I don't know your other characters but I like Tolan's concept, and your IC posts have been fun to read. I don't even know Tolan all that well but from what i can see, he seems to be a well thought out character. Sorry couldn't give any details or suggestions as i just haven't RPed a lot with him IG.mireigi wrote:I think it's about time I put the question out there, but how are you all perceiving the RP for the characters I play (see signature)?
