Appears like the Server is blocking IPs. According to the NWNList SCRY, the Server is up, but it is Timing Out some, as a defense? Well, the 45 minutes I was going to spend role-playing, I spent waiting on the Log In screen. Cya another time!

I think the server is blocking my IP as well. I see 37/75 people logged in on Scry, but I get a timeout when trying to connect. :\

Same here. I was able to log in just fine this morning but can't connect now even though it is up. Can the currently blocked IPs be added to a list to not be blocked or something? Although I think Comcast assigns a new IP every so often.

hmmm... i also tried rebooting, and connecting through the wifi tether on my phone, and the server times out that way too, though I can still see the server on my phone. :\

I have a suggestion for a way to get white-listed.

If a player can't connect to the server (because of blocked IP), they log onto their forum account.

A script is then run to check if the player's forum IP address is currently blocked, if it is, then this could be handled in a couple of ways.

1) let the player know that their IP is currently blocked (this could happen as a pop-up)
2) either provide a form for the player to request being unblocked or maybe automatically sending an alert to the staff with the IP address of the blocked member, asking them to approve enabling ie white-listing the IP address -or- automatically whitelist the IP.
3) a log could be made of white-list requests, to be used to help analyze the pattern of attacks.

i think the host has an auto-ban script that in the event of an attack temp ban ip who try to connect, such a script cannot determine if a connection is a good connection or an attack connection so when this script is fired every ip who try to connect goes to ban list ...

i think that to try to avoid that situation in the event of a server shutdown due to attack we should refrain to try to reconnect immediately (if you read shutdown messages is a reboot if you read " the server shutted down your character has been saved server side" is an attack) to avoid the possibility to be putted in the Sin Bin of ips and maybe give the server 5minutes or so before try to reconnect ...

i am a sinner too every time i told myself do not press reconnect immediately but i'm just already doing it ...

Most likely they are banning IP ranges in an effort to stop the DDOS attacks, rather than individual IPs. That may prevent people from particular ISPs and locations from accessing the server. If it's the host doing the banning, then lifting bans is more complicated than just setting something up through the forums.

Yes it would require some effort to write the scripts and coordinate with the host, the question is whether or not it's worth it.

if there is any form of feedback on how long we have to wait until those that became blocked will be able to log in again it would be most useful information. I tried to wait it out but this is not the way to deal with this. Anything that helps me to manage my time any better is much appreciated.

I'm in the same sinking boat. Haven't been able to log in since Saturday morning. Any sort of update would be much appreciated. Like should we anticipate this to last all week? Or is it just not possible to give an estimate at this time? Thanks to the dev team for helping to steer us through this muck, and for their transparency with the community. Frustrating for all of us, I'm quite sure.
