Another month on the Coast and trade goods plied their way north and south, east and west, and various points in between. But of course not all goods made it to their destination, many were diverted by monsters, bandits and other ne'er do wells. These cargoes then were to be found in various places around the Coast and still of some value to the right (pc or npc) trader, guild or other group. Why it is like growing gold one adventurer was heard to remark.

As for the recent past it is claimed though many cargoes were recovered few returned to the market, and the strongest surge curiously was around Soubar where the market in goods appears to be thriving. Between invasions, duels and kidnappings, gold was changing hands.

As winter gradually descends upon the Sword Coast, the first snow of the season begins to steadily follow along. In some places, it is gentle, and subtle; in others, it is a forceful reminder that the year's end draws near. To some, it is a source of merriment. To others, it is a herald of uncertainty - perhaps even death.

Whatever the case may be, those creatures which have not retreated into their shelters for the winter are becoming bolder, and more vicious in their struggle for survival. Hunger knows no fear, and unwary travelers or isolated farmers might easily fall prey to the beasts that prowl the countryside.

A friendly reminder that the server's ever-present rain is probably turning to snow by now. (And that wardrobe updates may be wise... or a decent set of wards. Not that the server's mechanics care, of course. :P)

Also, be on the lookout for minor events and encounters, starting in about a week from now. Details TBA.

An update on Trade Companies (individuals or groups trading in something on the Coast, often as a Guild but also less than a Guild too, all as part of the games trade system)

most recently...

Current known Trade companies

Golden Wheel, trading north to south mostly in goods their well armed escorts a common sight last year, however it may be their profits and progress are waning of late.

Rocky Creek Trade Company, out of Greenest driving various goods west and east and including wagon builds, gems and foodstuffs for sure, they are reputedly growing in activity and have their eyes on a formal Guild

Golden Arrow Trade Company, a strong force in the Devil wars where much of it's trading was done, it now trickles along at a slower pace in time sof peace, specialising in difficult trading conditions, and mining, the future is perhaps uncertain

Darkwoods Syndicate, an organisation gone silent last year, but had reputedly bought alchemist products in the Underdark

Clarity Cellars, of Beregost buying and selling wines, a persistent if quiet operator

House Darius, a well established staple, known as a wide ranging trade house involved in trade emanating from Baldur's Gate, an expansion of silk distribution and support of the war efforts perhaps some of their recent notable efforts.

Vaelen, a sole trader, operating out of Soubar, trading in magic items. A recent success story driving trade in a dangerous corner of the world, particularly during Devilish times.

Obsidion Eye, a small trade company trading in information, after an initial push this company has gone quiet, though of course perhaps that is what one might expect of a shadowy trader.

Chionthar Charter & Seaward Supply ~ Merchant Mariners, Jon Smythe sole trader, a single coastal and river boat.
The CCSS Company is a trade group and property established by the half-Elven Jon Smythe, to build funds and establish political power through mercantile operations in a focused maritime setting.

So far in addition to providing commerce opportunities traders have seen fit to support the anti pirate fleet at Baldur's Gate with large donations from Badgers, and House Darius along with an individual donation from a private citizen.

What then for this year we wonder, just another week on the coast.

Rumour has it Gullykin will play host to a presentation about the Old Silver Mine of Troll Claws in order to promote a forthcoming book on the subject. There will be poems and songs, and reports from the various activities there during the recent Devil Wars.

Individuals with personal experience may make their presence known to provide an individual insight, and should contact the reporter in the first instance. (dm spartacus) A potted history has been uncovered and will be presented.

Individuals or Guilds seeking to sponsor any part of this event should also make themselves known.

7pm GMT Sunday March 1st Gullykin (some rp)

Word spreads that a large pack of vampires have been rooted out from the sharp tooth forest.
While many vampires fell their eldest was able to get away by turning into a Mist and fleeing the scene.

Talk and whisper can be heard nearby the Friendly Arms Inn and the surrounding lands, apparently a group of adventurers has culled the population of the lizardmen in the Cloakwood area, it is murmured the reason for their doing was the cold blooded reptilians attacking and killing animals and adventurers in large numbers in a very threatening and aggressive manner.

The elder elven Alderen Amastacia, who seems to be residing around the area had asked for aid after the discovery of the bloodbath left behind by the maddened Lizardmen, as he described them.

Slowly yet another rumour spreads, the elder elven Alderen Amastacia has been heard asking around for a capable carpenter for a slightly larger undertaking as he called it himself.

His arrogant if aristocratic behaviour has been annoying the simpler folk as he likes to call them in and around the friendly arms inn.

Rumours spread of a small Elven encampment set up in the eastern Cloakwood, apparently Alderen Amastacia is offering shelter to elves and half elves within his barricades. That have been erected with what seems to be lightning speed.

OOC Often There is a number of in game props/clues for my plots. These only remain as temporary features while server is up. To provide an indication of when such clues are in game there will also be present an NPC 'Sparty' at FAI, and Soubar near Mudd. Also located at Market Building Sshamath Central,(When clues/drops relate to Upperdark/Underdark)
Sparty at the elfsong, implies there are specifically clues within Baldur's Gate Harbour

IE if he is in game - some plot clues will be also be present. (this may save you unnecessarily looking for things when they are not there ie no 'sparty' no clues)

Other clues are held with PCs and as persistent documents and designed to encourage RP

Trade update...some items remain in play and of value to individuals and guilds, others may surface to be found by explorers and traders.

Rocky Creek Trade Company, out of Greenest driving various goods west and east and including wagon builds, gems and foodstuffs for sure, they are reputedly growing in activity and have their eyes on a formal Guild

Golden Arrow Trade Company, a strong force in the Devil wars where much of it's trading was done, it now trickles along at a slower pace in times of peace, specialising in difficult trading conditions, and mining, however little has been held of this company recently and times may be hard.

Clarity Cellars, of Beregost buying and selling wines, a persistent if quiet operator, whose wines have travelled the Coast, on land and by sea too.

House Darius, a well established staple, known as a wide ranging trade house involved in trade emanating from Baldur's Gate, an expansion of silk distribution and support of the war efforts perhaps some of their recent notable efforts. A guild not afraid to explore into unusual places.

Vaelen, a sole trader, operating out of Soubar, trading in magic items. A recent success story driving trade in a dangerous corner of the world, particularly during Devilish times. Though much quieter recently.

In other news Baldur's Gate has appointed a Filias Fixxal of the Tax Office to oversee an enquiry into recent Undead sightings in the Field of the dead concerned that the new normal there is not the normal the City can accept. Any persons with knowledge of what is going on should make themselves known.

*It is said that in recent days, a group of Baldurians, escorted by a small contingent of guards of the Order of the Radiant Heart Auxiliary of Baldur's Gate, gathered in the Eastern Farmlands of Baldur's Gate, then boarded a boat heading east up river. Much time later, they returned after what seemed to be a long journey in similar number.*

In recent weeks, activity within the Troll Claws has begun to rise. What has caused the ire of the Trolls to mobilize and attack as aggressively as they've been lately is unknown, though word of a Troll King is mentioned. Caravans lay smashed and tattered along routes such as Boarskyr Bridge, the Fields of the Dead, Thundar's Ride, and more. Gruesome discoveries are rumoured to be made by those coming across such incident such as the feet being removed from all slain.

Within the last few days, word has quickly spread throughout the region of the latest strike conducted by the Troll force.

The burning could be seen from miles around as Kraak Helzak was besieged by an overwhelming number of Trolls and Ogres both as nearly a dozen Dwarven Defenders fell in the battle, their bodies crushed beneath the sheer weight and power of their enemies. As the gates of Kraak Helzak were beaten upon, a horn's call signalled in the distance a retreat of the forces - for now - as they had successfully defeated the Dwarves and those who rallied to aid them.

The rebuild continues and further defenses are being added in an effort to confront and battle back against the swarming numbers the Trolls gather with.

Caravans continue to be assaulted and harassed if they wander too close to the Troll Claws as the violent uprising of the creatures within is rippling out into the surrounding regions. One such attack occurred near Soubar on the Boarskyre Bridge as several were taken - dead or alive - with the Trolls on retreat into the hills. Word spreads of one of the Order of the Radiant Heart's Squires - Aesa - being among those still missing.

A rescue attempt was made, though hours after leaving a hastily teleportation spell warped in some, but not all, of those who had set out. Those who returned were badly beaten and bruised. The bodies of those left behind were found piled among others left for display near the entrance to the wild canyons.

Rumour has it an Undead cultist escaping south of Baldur's Gate fell to Kobolds. They in turn ran off with his goods. What befell them is uncertain but what is known is that some Kobolds were later found cut down by the sword in frontier justice perhaps. Whatever became of the Cultists trappings is unknown.

Just another day on the coast.
