The forum search engine is your friend.

The most common potion from lv1 is barkskin.

There are two items amassing a lv1 toon an extra 10 hitpoints at a price slightly above 1000.

Unless im roleplaying somewhat fiercely a tell of the lonesomeness usually get results. Tye price is a little roleplaying.

Fastest way to get to lv2 in the ud for a drow? Do the quests, lv2 in roughly an hour.

Edit: there has never before been so many areas and easy monsters to kill for a lv1 in the ud and yet the whine continue. Tombs, sewer and varallas. Get ac 23 smash slaves and beetles. Fireburst scrolls do wonders with a mage at the beetles btw. Ac 25ish, displacer beast. Ac 27-33 the far goblis. After you hit paydirt in the mines or oozes. Depending on class there are alternatives but those are the basics.

See? That is the exact kind of information that needs to be collected and put into a guide for Underdark characters. That information might be just casual to you, but to some newbie who just got done creating their first character on the server it's information that could save them a few dozen deaths before they can find it out for themselves.

I searched for "Underdark leveling guide". I got my previous post. lulz. I search "Underdark guide" and I get a bunch of information on how to get there from the surface. Finally I managed to find your very own guide on Starting in the Underdark.

It was on page 9 of the tips and tricks forum. I posted in it and asked it to be stickied.

Now, you mentioned in your post the various quests you could get in the UD. Please elaborate! I know of... 8 maybe 9 quests, obviously there are more from your wording. The quests I did didn't get me anywhere close to level 2.

Quests I know of:
  • Droin wants weapons from the Darkspires. Non-repeatable.
  • A Duerger Trader near the Beholder merchant wants ore from the Darkspires. Non-repeatable.
  • Varszene (sp?) the female drow necromancer wants corpses! Eight corpses before quest finishes. One corpse in Varalla passage.
  • Another Drow mage in the area wants Beetle pincers as proof of their demise so he can collect reagents... (repeatable!)
  • A certain Lolthite priestess needs some kind of something retrieved.
  • Weavemaster Valshar in the Necromancy school wants a book from a Vampire. (Not for level one chars)
  • (Uncertain) A gnome wants a plate returned??? Need more info...

Anymore quests you know about would be more than appreciated Storm. Thank you for what you've already given.

you can't get a drow from lvl 1 to 2 by simply doing the quests alone. There would be only the weapon and ore quest and the corpses. They won't provide the needed 3k XP. With some help/invisibilty one can do the basilisk egg, the mushrooms and the valshar quest. That would be enough for lvl 2. But all alone, impossible by only questing.

Here is the quest list of all underdark quests.

With invisibility ala Deep gnome, UMD or a friend all can be done at level 1, bar possibly the escaped slave which requires landing the actual killing blow/spell numerous times

Perhaps invisibility potions should be introduced, and the first 10 are cheap, so that even level 1-2 can get them?

And as for the quests. . . let's see now.

2000xp + 750xp for the omelette. . . 700xp for a plate to eat it of off. . . 450xp for cutlery and salt, 1000xp for something to read whilst eating (possibly 1100xp if you are good at talking). . . a possible 800xp for body work to gain an appetite. . . and for those that don't mind taking a very, very big risk, a practical joke worth another 1000xp.

. . . that is 6800xp for quests that can be done without fighting . . . add the quest that does involve fighting, then it is . . . I've forgotten the xp for the slave quest. . . around 700-750 I think. . . still, that is a good amount of xp I'd say. . . Lucky those people (svirfneblin) who can do it whilst running. =)

Ah.. you do not see the challenge, suspense and reward in possibly surviving the dash to collect the mushrooms, egg and plate my friends. ;)

All quests but idol and tome can be done at level 1 by any drow build alone.
A wiser player would use one of the races with inate invisibility I suppose.
For the corpse quest to be completed in the least possible time the leap to level 2 should be done just prior to and after reset. Do the slave quest after the mad dash, sloooowly and be ready to run away bravely to fight another day.
Alternatively ignore the corpse quest (the kobold archers can be naughty and it is time consuming) and actually work your way through the tombs and sewers. Yes, even a mage can do those alone.

Dont expect a honorary mention for outstanding roleplay from the above unless your toon is mad as a hatter, even then I doubt it.

I actually have a lucky few toons who did survive doing it (one had the luxury of following behind a grindgroup at the mushrooms).

Edit: Another way is by making that drow a fighter, buy a tower shield and beat the crap out of the underdark until lv30.

Well, I just have to say that I had a very nice evening with my epic character last night, playing guide to two new UD players. It's right as rain when your epic are just slightly better than low levels in terms of combat (unarmed damage against undead, isn't much when you have a strength of 10.), and you focus on the RP bit of the interaction. I felt happy because I got to talk, and they got the xp, since I didn't party up with them, or killed any of the undead that attacked me (pretending to fend them off instead, dodging out of the way when they got too close). It worked out as an enjoyable evening, and a lecture about (nawiel's thoughts about) the city tombs.

Umm, have Xercia ever spoken to her halfsister?

Nawiel can make anyone suffer.

Well then, Ask and you shall receive. I asked for guides on how to get going in the Underdark, I got them. Thank you kindly folks. No complaints from me. I might eventually be able to re-arrange all this info into a more thorough guide, pending my own advancement of knowledge of the Underdark here on the server. Thanks again.

Dreams are actually coming true... The UD gets populated! Can you keep it up until my return in May next year?
