A scroll is delivered to the Duchal Palace by a young man. The scroll itself is tightly bound in blue and white ribbon, and bears the mark of the Weavemasters.
Duke Eltan,
I have received your correspondence, and would welcome the chance to discuss matters further. I would request that you allow me the presence of those in question however, as I can only speak for myself, and in the best interest of the Weavemasters as a whole.
Upon our last meeting's end, you spoke of visiting us at Istari Tower. If you wish, we would welcome your presence for this meeting. If however, you do not, please send word to us as to when we might meet. I rarely leave the tower these days, and messengers would most likely find me there to deliver word personally.
Sincerely,
Weave Exarch Elias Goodmane

Addressed to Eltan
Duke Eltan
First I would say thank you, if you are reading this letter I have been given a portion of your very busy day. I shall try to be brief and frank in what follow, I was recently banished from the city of Baldur's Gate by Sir Justin Crownsilver. I believe that my punishment was unjust and wish to present my case before your court. If you find the punishment fitting I will give no argument, and you've my word I will never again enter the city. I simply wish to present my case before the authorities of Baldur's Gate. Reguardless of your choice on this matter, I thank you for taking the time to consider.
Mystra's Grace

A hastily written note arrives, delivered by Gregor Capstan, from Kel, disavowing his connection with the Red Field Guard, and informing Grand Duke Eltan of the company's dissolution.
A post-script in a bit fancier handwriting reads:
Mister Kel has been in employ as a guard at the White Mask Theater, and his services have been valuable and appreciated. While not a person of any important standing, I do beg that Mister Kel be shown clemency.

Lord Paymaster General
I Colour Sergeant Rocshanks of your Second company formally request the erection of a war memorial monument in honour of our fallen. I have a collection of 50,000 gold pieces donated from the troops for the construction of a 110ft high basalt obelisk monument. After a lengthy discussion with senior staff and the aid of a talented bard we have decided on the Monument's inscription which would read:
“NOBLY YOU FOUGHT, YOUR KNIGHTLY VIRTUE PROVED
YOUR MEMORY HALLOWED IN THE LAND YOU LOVED.”
We respectifully ask for your blessing to construct such a monument on your land, somewhere such as a hill place so that all can see it and remember those that gave their lives for our territories.

((A letter arrives at the Palace, written in the very precise hand of someone who has not yet developed any idiosyncrasies in their writing.))
My Lords,
My name is Triel Dilshanae, a paladin of Tyr and initiate in the Radiant Heart. I felt compelled to write to you about a conversation I had with one of your Fist officers. I believe his name is Valim, he also suggested that I talk to you about this matter.
The grim topic of Officer Lightbringer was brought up, and the conversation quickly turned into a debate about how the Fist should handle the letter of the law. Officer Valim contends that if a person is walking on the road, and not doing anything illegal, they must obey a Fist Officer's order to halt. That point I see, they should if at all possible. The rest of the discussion though, is what concerns me. I expressed the opinion that if the person told to halt did not hear, or notice, or for some other reason did not stop, but also did not flee, would it not be wise to simply follow the person and ask whatever questions the officer has? Officer Valim went on to contend that physical violence is justified, that an officer can use force to stop a person from walking away.
Now, I understand that if a person flees from the fist they are suspect, or if the fist are searching for a criminal, but if the fist see suspects in every citizen they will eventually condemn an innocent. I believe that law and justice should be tempered by reason. If an officer tells a traveler to halt, and they do not and continue to just walk, it's possible the traveler was blind, distracted, disturbed, deaf, or any number of innocent reasons. If that same officer then thinks that accosting the traveler and using force is appropriate, events like the one in the recent past, are bound to happen again.
If I am wrong, and it is in fact the law that citizens must halt when told to by a fist officer, or face a violent reaction, then I express my humblest apologies for questioning it. If I was right however, and as I told Officer Valim that I did not believe this is the intention of the Dukes, I would hope you could have officer Valim's superior follow up so that no other regrettable events take place.
Thank you for your time, and I pray that Tyr walks with you all,
Triel Dilshanae
Paladin of Tyr
Initiate of the Radiant Heart

To The Dukes.
Greetings and warmest wishes to the exalted and mighty Grand Dukes of the the great city of Baldur's Gate of The Sword Coast. We, myself and our company, bring to thine attention a proposal that which hath the potential, nay, certainty, to further build and bring forth great wealth and prosperity to the City and patrons of Baldur's Gate.
We, a company of merchants, entrepreneurs, explorers, mercenaries and travelers of the world, have come together as one to form a trading company and station ourselves within the grand walls of thine city. We are much aware of the other trading companies within and have studied them well. However, we believe ourselves to have a large advantage over the current existing markets. What we have are strong ties and connections reaching the far and distant lands across all of Fearun; ties of which we are certain these current companies can not compete with. It is these connections which grant us the ability to import wares extending from the far South of Calimshan, Chult and Tashalar to the northern reaches of Icewind Dale and the eastern Dale lands and beyond. It is these deep ties and connections which brings to us a large advantage to thine City and will serve to further build Baldur's Gate's stand as a major trading hub of the Coast.
We have in holding of a multitude of exotic wares to present thee as a display of what we have to offer, as well a large sum of gold, fit for the treasury of a king, to exemplify our success in our ventures.
We bring to thee the promise of growth and wealth and it is our goal to help build the economy of Baldur's Gate, spreading it's ties and renown for trade throughout the distant lands.
It is our request to seek an audience with thee and thine, presenting these things in person and further discussing questions, concerns and a possible hub to fortify our company, should we be granted the honor to establish ourselves within.
Yours truly,
The Jeweled Gauntlet Trading Co.

To his grace, Duke Eltan,
Sir, as a squire of the Order of The Radiant Heart, I am conducting an investigation centered around a woman by the name of Narasida Zakine, and the accusation that she summoned a vampire to serve her will. The elves of Doron Amar including Tyressen, Lanaya, and Mia Alunamar are involved in accusing Narasida of this, and confrontations between the two parties thus far have nearly come to blows. In the interests of public safety, and the protection of innocents, I am requesting that Narasida be barred by the flaming fist from entering Baldur's Gate untilt he investigation has reached a conclusion. Thus far Narasida has hidden behind veiled threats and false pretenses, and I do believe that if she were allowed to walk amongst the citizens of the Gate, they may be placed in danger simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time, should she be confronted, or should she feel compelled to act in her own interests. Thank you for your consideration, and I look forward to your reply, your grace.
Squire Tomar Goodmannen,
Squire of the Order Of The Radiant Heart
Paladin and Divine Champion of Tyr

To the honorable Duke Eltan,
My name is Zerris Keilsparn. I'm a retired pirate hunter who sailed the seas around Luskan for just over twenty years. After years of hardship, I've decided to retire and follow my dream of becoming a shipwright and I would like to do so for your organization, the Flaming Fist.
I will build replicas of my old ship and give it the same enchantments. The ships will be able to carry twenty people comfortably. It is built for speed and will allow your navy to quickly apprehend other vessels or scout out other enemy vessels and make a quick retreat if outgunned. The ships will be enchanted against basic elemental damage, that being of Fire and Acid.
Along with my ships, I will be able to train your men on how to properly use the ship and in times of emergency, with a crew, I will be able to Captain one of the vessels.
I look forward to our meeting,
Zerris Keilsparn

I humbly request an audience with you or one of your aides to discuss the Magna Vault Trading Company's trade routes regarding the territory that the Flaming Fist has jurisdiction over.

Your Highnesses, the Dukes of Baldur's Gate,
I am Alison Schlump Caunwaithon, the provisional Director of the Performer's Guild. I hope this letter finds you all well and in good health.
For many months now, I have suffered silently at the slanderous words of certain members of the Flaming Fist Mercenary organization. Although as a commoner I have no standing to ask justice for defense against slander, I do know that such things are at your discretion, and I hope you will agree that the slander is indeed false, and needlessly cruel. It is also detrimental to the entire Flaming Fist, as well as to you Fair Dukes.
There are certain members of the Flaming Fist, most recently Thedran, Daaf Rocshanks, Zacho Siger, and Fentin Berlance, who have publicly called me both a Red Wizard and a Red Wizard Sympathizer. These accusations are without truth or merit, and yet they continue to call me out as such in public, to the detriment of my reputation and their reputation - and by extension the reputation of you fine and noble rulers of Baldur's Gate.
Allow me to explain how this affects you and the entire Flaming Fist. Those that do not believe that I am a Red Wizard or Red Wizard sympathizer believe the Flaming Fist is incompetent for thinking that I am. Those who do believe that I am a Red Wizard or sympathizer believe that the Flaming Fist are incompetent for allowing a known Red Wizard to have free reign of the city and to hold a leadership position within one of the city Guilds.
I ask that you fair Dukes request of the Flaming Fist to cease their open accusations, at least while they wear the uniform of the City Watch. If, on the other hand, you feel the accusations hold merit, then I would request either a summary judgement or a trial to settle the matter once and for all.
Thank your for your attention, and I wish you all Good Fortune and a long and healthy life.
With warm and humble regards,
Alison Schlump Caunwaithon, Pro-Temp Director, the Performer's Guild
